The Walking Dead - Season 6 Discussion

so am I the only one that thinks Rick unknowingly killed hostages from other groups on the alien research pot factory facility raid? That would be some F'ed up ***** right there and some balls with the writing. Of course a few would have been Negans guys but the hostage majority and another under siege group forced to grow pot. From the start however there was an undertone as if Carol wasnt going to make it to the end credits.

Of course I have to complain about something, what was up with the terrible lighting in this episode? It was like interns had to take over for the week.

Why do you think they were growing pot? Did I miss something?

I thought the lighting was perfect.

Great episode.

Go and watch it again. During the opening Carol is lite with what appears to be a LED garage light while in the woods. Literally all of the interior lighting at the alien research facility was completely off especially when they opened doors to "dark" rooms, even on low budget TV standards. A friend even said the dreaded "they are lighting a Walmart" line as he was watching. And thats coming from a stuntman. Wonder what the grip/electrics would say...

Would Neagan's group just leave hostages untied in unlocked rooms? free to walk around the compound? Probably not.

I guess it really depends on how deep you think about the "membership" qualifications for the Saviors. It's likely that for every few guys who love what they're doing there's a couple who had to join for the sake of their own safety and lack of a choice. If that outpost was populated by people like Dwight, then maybe that will add a little sting to what the group did, but if those were all willing participants then I think the actions are more justified.

I think they made it clear they were willing participants. Each person we met was bad, the sleeping ones had awful images posted on their walls as if they were some kind of worship etc of the heads caved in by presumably a baseball bat...

Tense episode! And wondered how late they'd leave the "Oh crap" moment in the episode, and it was very late! Loved it.

Love me some Carol. Great acting from MM. I will say that she seems to have developed a conscience VERY abruptly, but the actress works the iffy writing for all she's worth. Hope this season ends strong.
I agree.

That was a VERY abrupt change.

And another thing, I know that we're always trying to feel as if the good guys are becoming bad guys, but they still aren't.

When was the last time they acted like thugs towards strangers? Have they ever met people, killed them and taken their stuff?

This was probably the first time they ever acted first. And in fact, they didn't . This was an act of aggression in defense of a peaceful community.

That's a big difference when compared to the wolves, negan, the governor or terminus.

I loved Alicia Witt in this episode.
Shame they killed her off so quickly.
I'm sure the writers will have us find her husband and four girls, still alive, living in Alexandria, just to rub salt in the wound.

Yeah, it would have shown how far her character had fallen, and maybe hint at what might have happened to Rick if he never found Lori and Carl.

Definite shame, her and that brunette were pretty hot, I always hate it when they kill of the hot women. But there's no way that any of those remaining Neganites would have been allowed to survive, they were way to much of a threat no matter how good looking they were.

What was up with Carol this episode? All throughout the episode I thought that she was faking it and the whole meek, mousy thing was all just an act and she'd jump into action at any minute. Turns out she's gone all Morgan on us and her spine seems to have softened some, when did that happen? When did Carol revert back to her old early season 1 self? What happened to the kick ass, take no prisoners Carol that we've all grown to know and love?

She was playing possum with the crying crap. It cause the others not to think highly of her as a threat. She did what carol does in the bad ass mode. She felt a connection to the red head is all. Kinda looking at herself in a mirror. So she wanted to save that lady.

I said the same thing about Carol and since I go over and watch it with my dad, this is what he said was happening. They finally have a relatively safe place where they can finally stop and think about what happened and reflect. It's like when a soldier finally comes out of combat and starts thinking about what he or she just went through. I think Carol saw Paula (right?) as a mirror and is afraid that's what she's becoming, BUT Carol has only killed bad people (besides the two sick people in the prison). It reminds me of that movie True Lies where Arnold's character is under a truth drug (I think) and he tells his wife asks him if he has ever killed anyone. Arnold says "Yes, but they were all bad." :lol

This is what I was going to put. I think they built up to this succinctly - the scenes with morgan (the trigger) the scene with Sam's grave (regret that she scared the child instead of comforting him) the scenes where she wakes up and writes in her journal the amount of people she has killed and then breaks down (the true carol beneath the bravado who is a good person) the scene with Rick (you shouldnt have allowed Maggie to come you idiot - she cares!) and then the scene with Maggie where she said (youre supposed to be someone else - ie. a mother, not what I am now)

I thought it built up nicely, it was like morgan switched the kettle on, and her emotions boiled over in this episode. She's still a survivor, she still did everything she needed to do. But with regret instead of thoughtlessness. Which is literally the only thing seperating our heroes from the villains! Glenn breaking down after his first human kill etc.

Great post. Exactly what I was thinking.

Carol will still do what needs to be done when there is no other choice (she put one right in the dark haired girls ear when she almost gutted Maggie with a knife), but still wanted to give Paula a chance to run away. Nice call back to Morgan wanting to give the Wolves a chance to run away, but Carol saying they had no choice but to kill them.

She is now in a similar situation, where she knows letting Paula live, could possibly be dangerous for Alexandria down the road, but the thought of turning into a cold blooded killer is getting to her.
