The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

For anyone that's interested, Epic is currently giving away Death Stranding for free from now until next Thursday. All you need is an Epic account which is totally free, and you might need the app too. And what's nice about Epic is that you don't have to install the game, you can just "buy" it and save it to your library and download and play it when you feel like it, or ever play it just to have it in your library. I do this, I have a ton of games from Epic that I have in my library simply because they're free.

Even for free, I'm still not interested in playing it.

I got it free somewhere, but I didn't think I would like it because my nephew said it was a walking simulator or something. I usually just grab anything that is even mildly interesting because it's free.

Same here, I just like collecting free games. If someone is giving it away for free and I'm already signed up to their service, like GOG, Epic, Prime Gaming, etc. I'll happily claim it whether I like it or plan on playing it or not. All that matters is that it's free and I don't have to download it. I figure, why not, it doesn't cost me anything more than the time it takes to push the claim button.

Death Stranding has been one of the best modern games Ive played in a while although I do think it is not a game for everyone. You either like it or you dont.

It can be summarised as a “travel” simulator but it would be more accurate to call it a puzzle game in an open world space imo. I personally love the “multiplayer” aspect which encourages playing to help others as much as you naturally play the game to help yourself.

I strongly encourage people to give it a go, especially since its for free.

I watched gameplay and just could not get into it. Maybe if I played it I'd feel different but I usually have a good sense about that. Another factor is I'm so over Kojima's drawn out cutscenes.

I'm not a big Kojima nut as some people are. I never really played or finished any of the Metal Gear games. From what I played, they're absolutely fun on a mechanical level. It's everything else I really don't care for. With all the great gameplay comes just self-indulgent, movie buff, gibbering nonsense, and sometimes they last for long time! Can't do it. But, I give credit where credit is due: Phantom Pain was fun up until they had me replay earlier story missions but under stricter completion restrictions, and Snake Eater's intro is the best Bond song of the New Millennium.

I do love the Metal Gear games, even as weird as they can be. Snake eater will always be my favorite, so still excited for this. Since Kojima left Konami, guessing they are doing this without him. But guess you never know if they at least talked with him on things. No idea.
But they released some screenshots. Heres a few. Looks really nice so far.

Finally home from work with my pics from the Sony show.
Obviously Metal Gear 3 Remake and Collection Volume 1 made the show for me. I think there will be a Volume 2 Collection next year as well. These will be in the buy physically and digitally day one for me. Only a few game brands I do that for and Metal Gear is one of them.

Blown away by Helldivers 2. Absolutely loved the first one and played it until there was literally nothing left to do. Looks like we're going from the twin stick shooter overhead view to over the shoulder third person view. Game looks phenomenal as far as I'm concerned. One of the best multiplayer games I ever played, this will also be a day one buy.

Dragons Dogma 2. First one is a cult classic at this point. Loved it. The second looks to expand on all the great parts of the original.

And the completely exclusive PS5 game, Phantom Blade Zero. Holy crap does this look slick as ****. Between this, Rise of Ronin and The Perceiver, the absolute ballet of swordplay among these games is insane. The cherry on top would have been if Ghost of Tsushima 2 was shown.

And Spider Man 2

My mom is having a garage sell this weekend, so I thought I go through stuff to see if I could find anything to sell....but I found a box of old game magazines and totally got sidetracked.
There two PSM magazines from the end of 2004 previewing the new MGS3 Snake Eater game....how funny.

They also had a section where the guy is suppose to be from the future and anwser questions people ask. Most were about the PS3....every single anwser he gave ended up being wrong...lol.

Been playing Phoenix Point lately, which is a fun Xcom successor. It's got a decidedly more Lovecraftian vibe to it. The diplomacy and strategic elements can be a bit frustrating, but overall I enjoy it and so far it seems pretty moddable to create your ideal version of the game.

I also picked up Jedi: Survivor and am thoroughly enjoying it, although I'm only to the 2nd planet so far. It's a solid evolution of Fallen Order and an excellent Star Wars game.

Only problem i have with Survivor is too much skill jumping. It becomes very prominent once you get past planet 2.

Yeah, there was a bunch of that in the first game. I expected it to some degree. What I did, though, was turn off the "take damage when you fall" thing. Makes the experience much better.

There is that, however, i never had a problem with that...my issues are more of the ones where there's nothing below you to cause you damage :)

The one that really had me mad was was 4 cable jumps to 3-4 vertical platfrom jump/runs to another cable jump.

The story has been excellent so far though.

Once i finish it, i'm thinking of starting a second one on the highest left and just running around koboh exploring :)

I love metal Gear so could be a bias but MGS A looks interesting. I am interested to see how much Kojima participation there is.

Spiderman 2 does kook great and agreed that Phantom Blade looks amazing. Given the graphics, I really am amazed at how good the game looks.

Kojima has been talking for the last ten years how he wants to be done with Metal Gear and wanted to be done after MGS2. It was pretty much Konami throwing money at him for Kojima Studios that kept him working on Metal Gear games.
But the management at Konami has changed since Kojima was there so the animosity may be diminished and Kojima may even be asked to participate, even in a consulting role.
