The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

Just want to say...
Star Wars Squadrons + HP Reverb G2 VR goggles = Eff me!
If you dreamed of flying an X-Wing well, you can. Or Y-Wing or A-Wing etc etc LOL

With MS Flight simulator supporting VR I decided it was time I jumped in and get goggles.
Didn't expect SW Squadrons to blow me away as much as it has and I'm still in practice area. LOL

I’m not a big gamer, but Squadrons with the VR rig was the one thing I asked for this Christmas, and it’s amazing!!! Sitting in the x-wing cockpit and being able to turn around and see the R2 unit...looking at all the controls as you leap into hyperspace...just phenomenal.

I also have the Iron Man game, which I need to go check out...

Can either of you share what VR you went with, and what your gaming specs are? Thinking of getting back in to the PC game just for Flight Simulator and also to build a golf simulator as well. Thanks.

A note on VR and flight sims, depending on the type of flight sims you want to play, make sure to get a VR that has a high enough resolution/visuals.

For example, the HTC vive was not good enough to make the instrument panels and dials in an aircraft readable/useable in a game like DCS world.
But one of the newer ones like the Valve index can let you actually read the dials.

Figure out what games you think you may want to play, and then snag a headset that you've looked into and verified can run the game the way you want it to.

My previous PC was ancient at 9 years and with flight simulator coming up and
having missed some Tomb Raider games I went all in last year on a high end machine...
Corsair i165 CORSAIR ONE i165 Compact Gaming PC

Once I heard MS FS was going to support VR, that nailed it and
the FS team was recommending the HP Reverb G2 because of it's high resolution.
Minimizes the looking through a screen door effect...

The couple Assassin's Creed games I tried, well really all stealth games, went like this "Let's try to sneak past these guys.. Okay here we g---" DEAD.

I have a PS4 so went with the PlayStation VR Iron Man bundle. It includes the goggles, everything to connect it to the console, two Move Motion controllers, a VR demo disk, and the Iron Man Game.

Picked up Squadrons separately.

Dammit..........now I wanna try it.
I was seriously addicted to X-WING, TIE FIGHTER, X-WING vs TIE FIGHTER in the mid 90s, and would love to revisit that magic.

Same here. I’ve only played the single player campaign so far, and it’s such an immersive experience. Would definitely recommend trying it out if you can!

really wish they would add more levels to world war z!! this game is hella fun!! (y)

I agree. The same group of people I play with are the same ones I played Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 with. We're all getting Back 4 Blood as soon as that comes out, probably on both PC and PS5 so if WWZ doesn't get any new DLC or a sequel we'll have that to fall back on. I am trying to get them into Deep Rock Galactic as well.

I just picked up Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. We'll see how it goes. :)

I was super disappointed, it felt like the series somehow took a step backwards. Want to equip a piece of gear but have it look like another? Gone. Voice acting - bad as ever. Story? Basically no ending (twice I thought, ok, this isn't the ending, I need to just keep playing and it'll get there, right?). Combat controls seemed very laggy at times. "Build your settlement"? Eh, not really, just pick and choose what decorations you want scattered around.

I keep playing these things because there aren't many games that fit the genre, but I haven't actually "liked" any of them since Black Flag. The fact that they couldn't even do something revolutionary with Valhalla/one of the coolest settings/eras just really bums me out. I'm definitely going to quit buying them before they hit the bargain rack.

have a group also that play WWZ all the time, we were trying to beat horde mode and only got to level 22. everyone dropped off after that. back for blood looks damn fun. I'm on x-box 1-X so hopefully they will have a version I can play!

Yep, Back 4 Blood is coming to all platforms.

In other news, Sony just confirmed they are discontinuing production on all PS4 lines worldwide accept for Japan which will still be getting PS4 slims. All production facilities are being updated to pump out PS5's. While they are still bitterly hard to find around here, I imagine this time next year they will be everywhere. A special limited edition PS2 themed PS5 looks to be on the way as well.

I hate that series since Origins. The Animations look so cheap. Really bad gameplay since that game.

Story went downhill with Brotherhood.

Doesn’t look like that PS2 edition is a Sony offering but rather a third party customization. Still pretty cool though.

Black Flag was the only one I enjoyed mainly because it had more to do with being a pirate than being an assassin. I was never really into the series to be honest. I played the first one and got too bored to finish it.

I never bothered playing the first game. I enjoyed the ones with Ezio since the story and gameplay was different than anything I'd played up to that point, and then the slide started.
