The Ultimate Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi Real Vintage Parts Lightsaber Group

Is their a center hole in it or not? What I am asking is that how do you put all the pieces together. I have seen images in which you can see one long screw that goes all the way through all the pieces. I think that the Graflex clamp clamps onto the end piece and the grenade thing on the other side, tension from the long screw gives it the tension to remain straight. Is that true?

I basically answered your question when I said there are two threaded rods running through it, but yes, EVERY part has a hole (of one diameter or another) in the center, and most folks assemble their hilts with threaded rods. It just depends on the parts you've got, but there are many ways to go about it.

Here's a link to my build thread... as Dann said, there's many ways that you can build it, this is just how I did mine....

Edraven99's Build Thread - Moar Stuff!!

(Yeah... I still have to swap out my transistor cans as well... )

Gotcha, I reckon that explains why I was given it years back!

It's funny though, after I attached it, I could tell IMMEDIATELY that it was too tall!

What I usually do (since the only washers that are made go under the transistors) I JB Weld or E6000 the washers to the clamp, and then do the same for the component, or use existing wires to pinch them in place.

(Just PM me if you need some!)

I also.. did... hacksaw up a Browning Flash Hider. Turns out it fits... perfectly. Without a grenade endcap you'll want the first ring, or with the endcap you cut between ring 1 and two. I'll see if I can take a photo tonight.

So, this is my shame and my pride. Ignore the weathered pommel. The grenade, while being 1 mark off is beautiful. And yes, my girlfriend helped me hacksaw the flash hider in 2. We chose to have 7 instead of the full 8 rings so we could use the grenades endcap

If it makes anyone feel better I did not do anything remotely special. In my many searches of relayed words, it just happened that some dude posted a booster set for sale and he didn't even care enough to spell the name right. I just played it cool, knew enough that I didn't have to ask questions, and completed the sale. It was an accident.

Dear Fellow Jedi and Sith,
It took me years to make up my mind, considering how hard it is to find certain components, but I finally decided to start my Holy Grail project so I thought I'd say hi and ask a few 'vital questions'. Currently I have only the Rolls Royce Derwent Engine balance pipe. My idea was to get a hold of the rarest component to make the project a GO. Since I have it now, I briefly looked at what I can find and it seems Exactra Calculator and Graflex Clamp are considerably easier to find. I have absolutely no idea how to find the Grenade, Booster and Sink Knob though.

What I want to ask is: Can someone give me some reference regarding the 'prices'? I would be grateful if you could give me some 'range' for each component so I can have an idea regarding the possible total budget of this project. Being a PhD student I will need to plan carefully and spread the expenses so that I can afford the whole thing.. Also, which piece should I start with? Any ideas regarding strategy? I am already aware this is a 'multi-year' project unless I am VERY rich or VERY lucky so I am not in a hurry.

May the force be with you all.

If you have a balance pipe, I'd say you have the hardest part to source to hand. The booster is probably the next in terms of rarity. I think it appears that it's the other way round when reading here, but more people tend to have the balance pipe by virtue that when a correct engine is found it will have 9, or 18 if the males are converted. The other components are more readily available but will still be costly. Graflex flashes have gone through the roof in the last couple of years (probably due to collusion and one or two sellers on the likes of eBay having brought many and reselling at a high price?). The correct handwheels can be found at a reasonable price if your willing to search for hours and get lucky. As to the Texas they seem to be constant in price. Boosters well no idea, I lucked out and got all of mine several years ago - Please don't ask none are spare! Basically if you find any of the other components just snap it up as you may miss the opportunity, and the way things are going could cost you a lot more in the future.

thorskywalker You are definitely off to a good start if you already have the BP. You can usually find most of the parts here and probably for decent prices unless you stumble upon "one in the wild" and the seller isn't aware what they have. In fact I think there are 1 or 2 sink knobs in the JunkYard right now. Marv is right! Snatch them up as soon as you find them! You may not find them again or if you do, the price may be significantly higher. And if you find a part you already have, I'd still buy it. They can be great trade items.

Marv is right. You have the most difficult part out of the way but its still an uphill battle. Prices are frivolous to list (they’ve been mentioned several times in this thread - and in others - but prices fluctuate so pinpointing a price today probably won’t be that helpful whenever you get around to or get lucky enough to buy a couple of these parts), so instead I will give you my take on them in order of difficulty to acquire (for most... obviously, these will be out of order on occasion, but for the vast majority of us these should be fairly typical standings) and price tends to match up with that as well. Let’s start with Easiest and end with Most Difficult:

Operational Amplifier (although an exact ID on the brand and model etc. has not officially been ID’d yet)
Graflex Clamp
Exactra 19/20 or TI 2000
Armitage Shanks Handwheel
Hales No.3 MK1
ANM2 Booster
(the Hales and the Booster could swap spots in my opinion based on where you happen to live)
Derwent MK 8/9 Balance Pipe

...and the most difficult piece to track down, although not at all the most costly:

The 1970’s vintage Operational-Amplifier Washer:

Is this the same Thor Skywalker with the YouTube channel "Let's Talk Some Star Wars"?

I think mugatu is spot on with the order - but the booster really is a step above. It took me about a year (and being conned once) to get the Hales, but even a newb like me managed it in the end. They are findable on militaria sites. Booster... well I think you need to have friends or ninja like skill (yes, Im name dropping) and this is the best place to make those friends. The highlight for me was finding a guy on a gun forum who wanted a booster for his ANM2 machine gun, and was told that his best bet was getting a replica from "those star wars nerds".. but I think I've told that story.

I'll repeat my thanks to mugatu and NickCline for their help on my journey, as well as the usual suspects. I still haven't posted images since my all vintage parts Obi-Wan was completed late last year....
