I still think he should have rolled with it.
People pay millions for that kind of exposure.
There would have been a way to leverage off that for sure.
Start a web page, post your progress of learning martial arts, losing weight, or what have you.
Get Ray Park to appear with you. etc etc.
Oh well. Too young probably to cope with that crap.
I think that's really the issue. I mean, this happened to a kid who was overweight and nerdy as it is, but who then had a moment of nerd indulgence broadcast across the entire internet to the point where it became a meme. He'll ALWAYS be "The Star Wars Kid" now. He'll never live that down.
Now, that's a lot to deal with even for an adult. How many of us have done some ******* thing in the privacy of our own home that we would be MORTIFIED about if it were ever broadcast for the entire world to ridicule? Now try imagining yourself as a nerdy, overweight high school kid that this happens to.
It's bad enough when kids in your own school make fun of you -- every kid has to deal with that (and those that didn't should have). And every kid has to deal with their insecurities and the tyranny of being a teenager. But now everyone on the freakin' internet is saying "Haha look at that loser fatass!" or whatever. That's a LOT to deal with.
I mean, an adult would probably segue this into a career as a reality TV star and/or spokesperson for a gym or martial arts studio or something. Hell, this kid could STILL do that if he has a mind to. I guarantee you that Spike or G4 or VH1 would GLADLY give him his own show, showcasing his dating exploits, his training to become an ultimate fighter, his mastery of martial arts or whatever.
But you gotta be pretty freaking resilient to handle that stuff, even as an adult, let alone a 15 year old kid who became the victim of his ******* friends' prank.
