Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.
Neck wrap is done. Working on the pants now. Then it will be shirt and then I am fairly confident I will have time to make the cape for Wizard Con STL.
Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.
I never realized how many parts there where on the Shredder's costume.
You are doing an excellent job on what you have done so far.
Very accurate the to the film.
Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.
Well I am knee deep in sewing now. I have the pants done except trimming and sewing in the hems and the pull string waist band. Yes they will be high waisted pants. I will be using the gi belt to hide the transition of pants to shirt.
Also I pinned the sleeves and elbow pads. I made sure I could find the biggest, 80s-ish pads in the store.
Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.
Well a big day for me. Pants are done. Yesterday I had a friend come over and help me pin the waist line and size the shirt. So today I have finished pants and a shirt with a ton of pins in it.
Also I got some rigid collidium and tested it out to see how it worked and whether any reaction would happen. Works great and no reactions so I decided to shave so I can have the facial scars as well for the cosplay contest.
Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.
Update today:
I have sleeves. With the shoulder pads. They look a bit flat but that is because they have not been attached to the main body of the shirt and had the curve hard set by the seam yet. Can't wait till this is done. Then it is on to the cape. I am getting so close. Needs to be finished May 23(Next Saturday). I think I will be able to get it done. I am so happy how it is all coming together. And I can't wait to use my DSLR on it so I can have some decent photos so the gold in the suit shows up. My phone sucks... but it is more handy at the moment.
Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.
And behold the shirt in all its unhemmed glory. I just need to hem it and put in shoulder loops to hold the shoulder armor... Then it is on to the cape and magnet latch on the mask. I have been waiting on the magnet latch to make sure Krylon Chrome dried...
Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.
Looking good, but just going by my memory they look like they are resting low. When you add the shoulder blades it should look better.
If not you may want to put some foam on the inside shoulders of the shirt for more structure.

Yeah I noticed it too... unfortunately I moved them out a 1/4" so that the should pads didn't lay flat. I may have to try padding the shoulders like you suggest. But that will be at the end of the list. Cape and magnet latch first. A whole outfit on time is better than most of the costume.
Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.
Done with sewing on the cape. The plan is to have it starched and pressed to bring out the pleats. If that doesn't work I hope I have time to install an underwiring.
Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.
Cape is at the drycleaners for starch and pressing... here's hoping. Also slowly working on the magnets... they work but the attachment still allows rotation so I am stiffening it up so the mask will not rotate toward my chin showing my face. I figure some sole/armor grade leather will do the job.
ComicCon came and past... the magnets didn't work completely. I had a backup strap to keep it from falling off and the magnets kept it in place. I was still able to take off the mask without taking off the helmet so objective complete.
I must have been stopped every 5 steps or less for pictures. I got the Best Villain in the Cosplay contest so I am extremely happy! I am now going to look into casting my helmet so I have a more durable version to wear.
That turned out great. A costume that has impressed the small kid version of me and still impresses me to this day - well done, congrats on winning the contest.
