Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.

I mixed the hematite and copper rub and I am liking the outcome. The horizontal banding is pure hematite.

Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.

Well I just finished repainting all of the chrome. They should label Krylon Chrome... Do it right the first time or sand it all off. It takes about a week to dry... unlike what the can says. So I ended up having to remove a bunch of fingerprints. This round is very nice and slow on paint and I will assemble the helmet in two weeks to be sure. I thought today I would talk about a fun feature while I am leatherworking the armor. I plan on having the mask attach with magnets so I can pull just the mask off when I want to. I have 10 earth magnets so I plan on having 4 in the mask and 4 on the interior helmet "clasp". I really like the idea of being able to remove it like the end of the movie. Mainly because of eating ease and so I can try to do the scarring.

Also I am still thinking of doing the lip on the shin guards and I might be able to stretch the leather to the shape.

Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.

So a lot of good came out of this weekend. I bought and tried out worbla and kinda like it.

4 of 6 armor pieces tooled.

But to the real post... Worbla...
I have played with it and found it satisfactory.

So basically... I have the tiger claw ready for paint, rivets, and the claws to be set in.

Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.

I am interested in how the chrome paint looks.
Soon enough... just being extra careful since the paint dries very slow.

On to the update...

I primed the tiger claw base and marked out the locations for rivets. I then drilled the holes and painted the tiger claw base. After that I glued the rivets in and I must say I am loving the way it looks. When I deem to add the chromed claws I will drill to fit the claws and do some minor touch ups to the paint and glue them in. Until then, I leather work. Although if I had the budget I would be doing knotwork and rethinking my design. After STL Wizard World Comic Con I will be slowly replacing the leather armor with worbla.

Well I finally attached the horn. A few small blemishes in the chrome but you have to look hard so I don't mind. Dead line is coming up and I got work to do. Currently working on tooling the leg armor and soon I will be assembling the armor pieces. Then on to sewing the cape, garter belt, and suit.

Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.

And the Lord said, "Let thy leather tooling be finished; For thou shall now dye and assemble thine armor."

Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.

It is always a great moment when all your work finally starts to seem to pull together. The armor is looking like armor. The helmet is looking good. Instead of wondering how much longer I need to work I find myself drawn to working on it because its starting to look like it's coming together. It feels like it is going faster but I know it isn't. It is just showing more noticeable progress each day since it no longer looks like raw materials.

The tiger claw is complete. I need to make the magnet latch for the mask and I have dyed and formed the armor. I also cut out the backing oil skins and will be riveting it to the armor pieces soon. I settled on bronze and iron as my armor and helmet color scheme and thanks to all my painting background I was able to mixk leather dye to make the same colors on my armor.

Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.

This is a great build. It also showcases a lot of the details of that costume I was never really aware of. The looping detail on the helmet as well as how the armor looked I guess I never really looked at too closely when watching the film.

Well all the rivets are set. All the snaps are in place. Now I can wear my armor. Currently I will be working on setting the rest of the claws. The shoulders and the tiger claw are done... so that means 12 down, 24 to go.

Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.

Last update for the weekend:
22 claws down and 14 to go. I only need to get the leg armor done and I can move onto sewing.

Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.

Well it is done. The armor is done. I will be moving on to the sewing tomorrow.

I thought I might add in a picture of the dremel work that I have to do to make the slots for the claws. After I make the slots I dye the slots and do any touch ups I might need to do before I get out the barge and cement in the claws.

Tomorrow starts the Gi Belt, wrist wraps, and ankle wraps.

Re: Money can not buy you the honor you have earned today.

Well small update... mainly because I only want to post if I have a decent progress. I have all of the cloth cut and will be sewing the suit soon but I went ahead and did the gi belt as a warm up on the sewing machine so I could remember all her quirks before I sew the bigger stuff.
