seeing what Lois said, yeah, Lois, I'm willing to show which ones were mine and also WIP pictures that show where I worked on them and my son working on them too, to prove they are my work, if that's the issue here. Not sure if it is, because like I said, I came in really late on this. Been rather busy the past few days...
Lady Megs, I wasn't asking for proof of anyone's work, and besides, I know which one was you:cool
I was Gem #11 in the female and my fiance who is Badmonkey above was #53 Castor. Both were from Tron and we have a build thread here:

http://www.therpf.com/f24/castor-gem-tron-tutorial-step-step-photos-pic-heavy-131753/

I don't think Bizarro Lois was saying that anyone wanted proof that people made their costume but just thought it'd be nice to know in general and look at some of them in more detail. I know I for one was thinking that'd be nice to know as well! :D

Exactly. There are some that I recognize from Facebook or previous threads. But there are several that I had never seen before, and I was kind of hoping each entrant would say their number/what their costume was. I'd even be happy to see links to build threads, if they exist. That way, I can go back and check out anything I missed. Some of them must be entertaining. I had made a new avatar using a failed proof pic for the occasion, so I think everyone knows which costume was mine. My build thread was more begging for help than anything, but there are some in-progress pics and some of our "Mads" group at DragonCon. http://www.therpf.com/f24/help-mst3k-costumes-finished-dragoncon-pics-added-first-page-112596/

Well ... That was fun and it was nice to be in the lead for a few hours. (then America woke up) . I did the Bunny mecha from Suckerpunch and kept a fairly exhausting notebook on construction but at the time had no time to post anything. It was unveiled at Melbourne Armageddon and I won best in show. I even managed to get on stage without killing myself. I still have a lot of work to do on it, replace arms etc, but mechanically it was very easy to walk in, and I managed to get it up to 2m 20cm tall. To keep it super lightweight it mostly made from paper mache with an eva foam skin. I'll endevour to put up a thread about the build soonish. It was good company to be in, some astounding costumes and well done everyone.

Okay, well, I was number 23 in the Ladies, Soundwave, and my son was number 15 in the kids, Bumblebee. They are also on my signature pic thingie too, and I have a thread up that showed my Transformers builds and some of our ventures out in them, but none of the WIP (Because if I put WIP pics up for all of them in that one single thread, it'd have been a reeeeaaaallllyyy long thread.) I can go back now and add in some of the work pics, or make a WIP thread separate, if anyone requests or would like to see it. I don't mind to, I have a few pics from each one, even though Bee and Soundwave and Wheelie were a bit rushed and I didn't take quite as many pics of them as I did of the first three (I went WAY overboard on wip photos of them because I was so new at it and updated on every little thing and then realized that I didn't have to do it that often, that just some progress as I went was better than an update every hour...lol...)

I was gobsmacked with the results in the ladies category.

aelynn000 do you really think your costume was worthy of winning? Take moment and look at the Bumblebee, Autobot, Gem, Quorra and Mystique. They all took weeks, if not months, of planning, building and execution. Your costume was good but lacked the level of detail and complexity that the others achieved. Then you take a personal swipe at your closest competitor 'Mystique'. I understand that you exploited a loophole, but to slam another's hard work is against the spirit of this contest and the RPF. The makeup, prosthetic and body form on the Mystique was close to flawless. This is coming to you from a former Holly propmaster.

How would you like it if you entered a costume contest at a bar and it was down to you and the big chested girl wearing the 'got milk?' T-shirt. She pulls out the pitcher of water for her gan finalle....and wins! Who had the better costume?

^^This has already been discussed to death and it got ugly. So ugly, in fact, that the Ladies Contest thread was locked. Also, you're entitled to feel that there were better costumes, but that analogy is grossly out of proportion. Regardless of the entrants' actions, both of the winning costumes took a lot of hard work, whether it was sewing or prosthetics.

Wow. Just wow. Some of you are just vile, why would anyone want to win a costume contest if this is the **** every winner is going to have to be put through every year.

Next year I'm going to dress up as an inflamed anus, and I *will* win, just so we can all agree that the butthurt won in 2012. Mark my words.

As a seamstress, it takes me months of prep time. Planing, making pattern pieces. Finding the right materials. Embroidery designs not to minion just sewing time. I know from following her thread for her skirt material she created the pattern from pictures of the cartoon and pieced them together on photo shop to that she could have the skirt material custom printed. (thanks to her I know know I can do this) Then when the fabric came back she still had to dye it to get it the right color because it wasn't quite right. She HAND embroidered the designs on her skirt at the rate of 6 inches per hour! Countless needle pricks and blood went into that. Do you even know how to sew? The dress design it self is not intricate. But she did an incredible job making a costume replica from a cartoon. I wouldn't think twice about length or amount of work she had into her costume. I'm not saying one is better than the other. All the contestants did incredible.
I'm a professional seamstress and have made MANY MANY theater costumes. Never any for Hollywood (yet) but some of the ones I made for theater would have fit right in. But in my experience in theater a "prop master" was a completely different department than costumes. I'm sure Hollywood isn't that much different. In high school I was prop master for a play and costume mistress in most of the rest. My jobs were completely different in those positions. My son came in 2nd in the kids costume contest. Only things I didn't make was the wig, sword, broach, and boots. Are you going to try to tell me I didn't deserve to win? Cause I know those Halo costumes took a ton of time. My mine did to. Just time spent in completely different ways.

I've been staying quiet since I hate getting involved in drama but since you decided to call me out publicly, I'm going to say this.

I worked hard on my costume. REALLY hard. Really, REALLY hard. As any of the other contestants did and I recognize that.

I did not say anything negative about the quality of the work done on Mystique or anything slanderous that would cause votes to be lost. I expressed a concern on a personal blog which someone lurked out and spread like gossip with a negative twist.

The loophole was the reason the votes were reset. I did not exploit it prior, and it was non-existent in the second round. I simply did what the contest is meant to do, got traffic to the site, got people to visit, register and vote. Keep in mind that voting is anonymous, so even with all of the self promoting I did, people could vote for whoever they wanted and I wouldn't know it.

I put an insane amount of effort into my costume and I put a lot of effort into promoting the contest. The combination of those is what won me it and I have no qualms about it. I made a wicked costume, and I did a good job spreading the word about it.

And I've had that bar contest situation happen to me every year since I've been costuming. If I want to be judged on workmanship, I'll enter at a convention. Most other contests online or at parties are simply about promotion of the websites or based on popularity and that's just how it is.

This kind of drama makes the boards look so silly... I feel terrible for all the people I directed here praising it as a worthwhile site to join, which it most definitely still is, but the first things they're going to see are posts like yours and locked threads because of further drama.

I appreciate that you have your own opinion, but if you feel like calling me out on anything personal, keep it to my inbox.

Completely separate from the drama of the costume I have to say this about your comment:

I..............would totally vote for this costume................totally. :lol:lol:lol

You seriously have to make this costume now. But where the hole would be should be your face and you constantly have to make constipated faces.

That was really cool, and not a project you see every day.

Dude, you got my vote! The competition was tough, but I liked the accuracy -- and downright fun -- of your costume the most.

Regarding the voting: I think it should be members-only, and to avoid people jacking up their post counts, maybe make it a minimum post count AND length of time as a member (60 days?). Anyway, as somebody else pointed out, if you didn't win you're no worse off than you were before the contest.

This coming from a guy with zero votes (no love for Leatherface, apparently).

Same as a couple suggestions I made, but I keep forgetting that the main purpose of the contest ( other than showing off the awesome creations that come out of here ) is to promote the site web-wide.

And I'd take the 0 votes as a compliment to your costume... people were just too scared of it!!! I've never seen the movies, but that costume has always freaked me out. The more accurate, the worse the scare. So kudos on a scare well done!

Thanks, aelynn! I actually won the contest at work so don't feel bad at all. Truth be told, I wouldn't have voted for mine, either, given the choices.

The original Texas Chain Saw isn't really gory at all by today's standards -- but it's still pretty brutal to watch.
