The OT stunt lightsaber blades research thread

Dude.. we have 3 18 wheelers of packages behind UPS locked up... they are so far behind, now some packages have foods and meats which are now expired and leaking on all the other packages.. total chaos in my area when it comes to packages. I’ve had 3 lost in the last 4 months..
Wow that's horrible!

Here is a pic I found from the lightsaber on the Vader display promoting the opening of Planet Hollywood in Cologne, Germany in 1992. The Vader display was made by Don Bies & team.

Sansweet's saber is 100% Bies & Team as well then... whoa

This is a Glomex 5' antenna, compared to the Denmark AC Antennas CX-4 AIS. The REGULAR sized Glomex Halliwax has is the right size. My OBNOXIOUSLY LONG antenna is only just under 16 mm at base. The taper looks excellent though. Also, much more flexible fiberglass!

Working on these - see the conversion thread - 8 foot cheap Antenna, out of business company

They do leave marks when you strike them together

I don't really have the software to adjust for camera lens angles and distortion, nor the measuring things you can do in photoshop? maybe I do, need a tutorial... anyway I did the casual blaster thing and made shapes and lines and compared things to real world parts. This isn't really exact and everything is blurry up close. I attached a photo or two of what photos I was drawing on

Luke - 18 mm base

My conclusions: Vader and Luke's blades were different Antenna. Vader's is longer, but skinnier, and should be fatter if it's cut lower. They have the same 10mm tip.

Another nail in the coffin on the round ANH blades being skinnier

ANH Stunt during ESB and Luke's Graflex with foam grips and the split socket really have fatter blades than I thought. Have to be cut from long antenna radomes. My new ones get to be around 30mm at the base I've not seen a 4 footer get above 18.. though I've not held a Glomex RA300, I think that does

Great detective work tom
Thank you sir!

I'm sitting here with a tape measure because the Valor ones are around 17 at the length of Luke's. I'm realizing since we don't have the exact ones used in the 70s, I'm going to have to settle on a close enough section because every manufacturer has a different radome it's nuts. We're getting as close as we can with modern stuff, I need to be more appreciative, I got the hunt for the vintage one mixed with a hunt for a modern close version and you have different accuracy levels for both. This is really cool.

Also I have trouble getting metal for the inside without larger machinery. I was able to buy a thick walled tube from China that's close enough I can sand it to shape. It's enough for a few blades I think

I also think Bob Anderson chose different lengths for different human body types. Mark was much shorter than David and I think their blades weren't an accident

Never really thought of that, maybe that’s exactly why Hamill’s blades are always shorter then vaders..

These are the same two sabers I think

They are blurry photos, but when you watch all this footage, you see it's an ANH Cast and the ANH Graflex Stunt together over and over and over.

These two might also be the same

Seemingly keeping the reflective tape on the blades for the warehouse rehearsals.

on the blades - these are probably from ANH or between ANH and ESB and they start out around 17mm but get skinny VERY early and stay very thin!!!

I would agree that red blade Bob Anderson is practicing with is fiberglass as well as Mark Hamil's they were probably just another variation of antennas they had. Those were probably dedicated practicing sabers. So as to not damage the filming stunts

Guys, that blade with the wide, short adapter and long tang is a VERY short blade. Like 2 handles length. What sword was used for fighting with such a short blade?

Certainly has red/brown hue but I'd want some cross referencing. This could just be a photo/film artifact: original colour balancing of film &/or colour balance deterioration of the film.

The Yuma stunt has a super short blade, and the long tang looks like it could go into a ROTJ skinny neck saber. IIRC the ESB stunt in the Wampa cave was a short blade as well.

I question the long tang above for the Yuma. The cave hero photos from exhibits don’t indicate a full hollow core as that one would seem to require.

I actually said that the Yuma had a short blade, and that the long tang looked like it could go into a ROTJ skinny neck saber. I didn't say I though that blade was used, or would fit, in the Yuma saber. I made 2 separate statements about the blade.

Gotcha. I assumed you were making an inference since the Yuma is an ROTJ skinny neck stunt with a short blade. Or rather, that’s how I read it. Sorry!

Don’t forget, the tangs aren’t 1 piece with red blades, there are so many attachments points with these damn things.

Some one could have inserted a tang into the wrong blade.

They are fooling around with stuff in the archives, that archivist even admits to attaching the blade to the pipe stunt

It may not be the yuma blade, and just a broke blade they have left over

All yuma blades I’ve seen were painted black. Even the video footage shows the blade black to help the rotoscopers

Idk.. too much time in between things and way to many hands involved in these projects

Sure would be nice to match them though..

Im looking at that adaptor or collar, and why its so thick if its just a metal sleeve. Might be a bearing?
