The Official Boycott Star Wars Bluray thread

Mabey instead of people "boycotting" its time to start a "fist full of $$ to spend" campaign! It would get more attention from the "suits" :)

Yes, but the $ excuse was BS from the start. The real reason was because this was what George wanted for his films. Now that the artist is out there's nobody holding that release back.

I'm not holding my breath and I'm not boycotting anything but the only OT I'll buy is an original one. I've got the Laserdisc rips from the DVD set as my trilogy.

Oh, I know that it was just an excuse. I mean, for gods sake, the prequels ran more than a 500 million dollar profit BEFORE the first one hit the screen. Marketing rights were sold for a over a billion and he the budget of all three productions ran to a total of 500M.

He could easily have done it out of pocket change, no question. The question now, though, is - how big a deman is there for these? If the decision is my hands I ask my underlings to tell me how long it would take and how much it would cost to do it. I take that and find out if I make any money on it at all. If i'm going to take a loss, well, frankly, it's too bad fan boys.

The bigger problem I have with that is when they did all the cleanup and what not for the SE's and more on the SSE's, they could have started by completely redoing the unaltered film and then going from there and keeping an original in tact. NOT doing that seems mind-bogglingly stupid or stubborn.

An issue i have with 'his vision' is that I fail to believe that 'the vision' includes obscuring R2 with rocks, adding eyelids to ewoks, and vader yelling NO, but doesn't include a shot of Alderaan to give meaning to blowing it up. Now that we've seen alderaan in E3 and there's, you know, alderaan stuff you could add - makes it a bit worse. Even at that though, all we see, in essence is a cabin in the woods and not a planet bustling with 'billions of people' who later cry out in pain and are silenced at once.

I don't need a shot from the surface of Alderaan as the beam hits it to realize and feel the complete and utter loss the arrogant and vile action brings. It breaks up the flow of the scene as much as the speeder going into Mos Eisley did. The fact that we are left watching it from a distance, we are placed in Leia's shoes, watching her homeworld be blown up and all the people she's every cared about and all the people she never knew, just gone in an instant and she's powerless to stop it.

And we feel it through Obi-Wan, who senses to insane and excessive loss of life in a mere pointless show-off of strength and brutality. The cowardly act of destroying innocent people just because you can, just to crush the spirit of a young woman who won't give you the location of her rebel alliance.

Seriously... it would make as much sense as to add the NOOOOOO to Vader at the end of RotJ.

+ it didn't add ANYTHING to the Adywan version. It just made it feel cheap and pointless to even have been included.

Well, but I think the point is: how does that differ from any of the other pointless additions to the SEs/SSEs? They can burn cash playing with awful color timing (and doing a **** poor job of it, too), doing a full-on shot of the wampa eating the taun taun, etc., etc., but they can't do other stuff that might make more of an emotional impact? Is it really George's "vision" to have ewok eyelids? He HAD to get that in there and "the technology just didn't exist before"?

I honestly don't think there's any grand vision anymore, or at least if there is, it changes from moment to moment with Lucas, and we're at a point where he's, like, making sure all the individual screws have the lines on them facing the same way. My 95 year old grandfather is like this with the house he's owned for the last 70 years. At one point, he wanted to rotate the bathtubs. No joke. At a certain point, tinkering ceases to be about an end result and becomes more about enjoying the act of tinkering.

One thing I do like about the SE's and the Blu-rays is how Darth Vader shows his commitment to raising awareness of Breast Cancer by always fighting with a pink lightsaber...... said no one ever...

That is a startlingly accurate diagnosis. I may need to quote you on that.

The '93 laserdisc, at 480p and letterboxed, is unfortunately the highest resolution version we have available. You can read more about it (and why it sucks for modern home theaters) here..

Cough...coughcough...Harmy V2.1...cough cough.....negativeone's 35mm scan...coughity cough cough cough....

Just wanted to let everyone know that a couple of fans have already obtained a nice print from 1977 featuring the original unaltered version Star Wars and have scanned it and restored it to it's original glory. And the best part? The whole thing is available on youtube!

...I hate you :lol

Rich = Wack Job

It's so simple.

You guys just over think everything.

:lol Maybe we over-think SW stuff so as to avoid over-thinking life... I know I do. Hang on...

So yeah, Lucas' toilet training, together with what was probably a pre-natal tendency to blah blah blah....

All I want is the movie with no extra scenes or added sounds etc. Cleaning up things like laser effects and blue screen matting would be fine.

I don't want extra womprats and robots.

That Adywan guy almost had it almost right, but then he went and messed it up by adding additional ships to the battle of Yavin.

Does it ANGER ME that Lucas is changing it again? No, but I do think it's unnecessary and a little sad.

How did Adywan mess it up by adding more ships to The Battle of Yavin???

Commander: "We count around 30 rebel ships, Lord Vader. But they're so small they're evading our turbo lasers."

Vader: "We'll have to destroy them ship to ship. Get the crews to their fighters."

So the Empire send out a handful of TIE's instead of 30...

Adywan had them ship to ship - 30 against 30... Just his take on what the Spec. Ed's should have been - and far superior too!

It was probably when he added a rotj scene in it.

It was probably when he added a rotj scene in it.

He added a few X-Wings in the backdrop and the Y-Wing veering towards the camera from the TIE wave from ROTJ for the new TIE wave in ANH:R, but a lot of the ships in that shot are static cut and paste images with motion blur. Better than a load of static Y-Wings not doing much as Lucas could have done more. So not directly a ROTJ scene. That edit is way more superior to anything official since 1997. Whilst I don't agree with Battle of the Heroes during the Ben/Vader duel - the rest is fantastic.

Roll on The Empire Strikes Back: Revisited!!!

There's nothing fantastic about the Adywan cut. It's just another fan-edit and in the same vein as the SE's - adding unnecessary stuff. And if I had to choose, I'd choose the SE's!
