The Official Boycott Star Wars Bluray thread

Everything I dig is a part of my identity.

I'm getting that. It explains why you respond so vehemently when someone is saying they dislike the thing you like, even when they haven't actually said they dislike you personally.

Just because I respond vehemently to someone's post doesn't mean I take their comments as a personal jab to me personally. I mean, your replies are about as vehement as mine are but you don't see me asking why you care so much about my opinion.

Perhaps I'm just reading tone into your words, then. I mean, I don't intend any vehemence on my end, actually, so if that's coming through, my apology.

I can't, however, apologize for being verbose. That's just me. :)

Johnny Depp for Obi-Wan

You're thinking too small. Johnny Depp for every role in the film.

An entire film of Johnny Depp training Johnny Depp to save Johnny Depp and stop Johnny Depp from destroying Johnny Depp's planet with a super-weapon designed by Johnny Depp and commanded by Johnny Depp and his elite army of Johnny Depps.

Hmmm, I wonder what Star Wars music composed by Danny Elfman would sound like.

On second thought.....

I really wonder if terms of the sale included a, "Don't dare touch or alter my existing films in any way" clause.

Which case they will say "Alright" and release the original theatrical versions. They wouldn't be touching or altering them in any way.

This has been done. It was called Being John Malkovich.

Why would he? He always said he wanted HIS versions out and the reason he didn't release the theatrical cuts was because he didn't want to pay the bill. That doesn't read like someone hell bent on keeping them off the street if someone else pays the bill to have it done. All it takes is for Disney and 20th C Fox to come to an agreement on how to do it.

Eh, to be honest, I think he actually kinda wants them suppressed and unavailable. He gave in on the "Bonus Disc" stuff because someone told him "George, they're buying the exact same thing off of ebay. We could just repackage what you did with an extra disc, and they'll go back and buy your version TWICE just to get that version legitimately."

But outside of that, I always suspected his attitude is "The 1977-1993 version is dead to me. And that means it's dead to everyone else."

Look at all the quotes from him about stuff like "I'm sorry everyone fell in love with a flawed version, but these are my stories."

I doubt that he'd put such a clause into an agreement of sale, and for that matter I'm not even sure it'd be legally enforceable if he did and Disney wanted to say "Yeah, we don't care." But I can see where, while he controlled it, he wanted the original versions not on the streets unless he had not other options.
