The Ninja - Star Wars Vintage Parts Hunting & Props - UPDATE - Hunting Box from the UK

I've had a weird knack for finding obscure and rare items myself. Not just star wars pieces either. I think it comes down to hardheadedness and insufferable hours spent on google. So I respect this thread a lot

I agree 100% its all about research & time, the more you research & know about the items you are looking for, the more targeted your hunting (y) and having a network of great friends is a bonus we all benefit from our knowledge & hunting :D

Hell, I wish I had friends who were as interested in hunting for these things as I am. Took me 9 years just to find that damn thermostat piece for the Snowtrooper

Weeell….you are HERE (RPF).
All friends you ever need to support you with your prop-related searches are accumulated in one place :)

You know I had this really silly idea of forming a small group of people like us who manage to find these obscure things, and making into a business type service.

oh man... nice!
someday you'll have to explain me something, searching all day long (so, no job?) + lots of money to buy lots of stuff.
yeah, now I can see that this is probably way too personal, hum, anyways! (y)

I spend my free time doing it. I can't speak for others, but sometimes I may get on a searching stint and next thing I know it's 4AM and I realized I gotta be at work in a few hours. Just happens.

As for money? I don't make much at all, but then again, I am personally (in regards to the prop items I am after) not looking for what would be very expensive items. The original thermostat pieces I actually didn't pay for. The 2 Sinisalo BMX protective chest pieces that was used for the Mortal Kombat 3 video game's Sektor/Cyrax costumes were $25 each. I even sourced the only found item for Sektors/Cyrax's helmet, a Smith BMX facemask that was in like Norway for some reason, which took a year to identify and actually locate. I think that was only like $50. Aside from an original pair of Loubsol ski goggles + replacement lens, the most expensive "found" item were the First Order Snowtrooper boots (Yes, I shamelessly take credit for identifying those boots first after it was revealed in Anaheim.)

But I'm not looking for uber expensive things. Parts like I mentioned above are generally already inherently cheap at retail. It's only once these folks realize what they actually mean to people like us do we see them raise prices. The first order snowtrooper boots are a good example. The white versions are very hard to find. I found them for about $150 at the time, and shortly after it became more common knowledge, the same vendor doubled the prices of his remaining stock.

Hey Ian! Congraaaaaaaaaaaats! I reckon its *the* hardest bit to get. I owe mine to NickCline so I'll shout him out again!

Thanks brother, yeah I know without Markus OdiWan72 putting this one together for me I would still be looking, now we just need to find another engine for the last part needed to complete my build :)

One day I pray to come across a booster. I fully expect when I do come across one, it'll be with the help of someone from The RPF. Everything I've been able to get, has been because of wonderful people here.
My best score was a Russian camera (it had a part needed for my Chewbacca Bowcaster). The camera - INCLUDING SHIPPING FROM RUSSIA - was $13.

I think there should be a 'My best score' thread and The Ninja and OdiWan72 should only be allowed to watch and comment and not post theirs. Let the rest of us mere mortals have a go.

I agree I have made some great friendships here on the RPF which has allowed me to not only expand my knowledge & collection but to help others, nice pickup the Russian copies are way cheaper then the original Leica Cameras (y)

I don't see OdiWan72 , The Ninja , or any of the others who have very impressive hunting/collecting skills as "opponents". I see them as inspirational, because it shows these gems are still out there to be found. If anything, I'm in awe of them :notworthy:
