The new Captain America??

I will just quote myself from last week, quoting someone else...

It is all just chit chat at this point as they seem to be talking to anyone who is interested in playing Cap.
from this CBR update...

"Someday, this part will be cast. In the meantime, it seems Marvel is meeting with every actor who even remotely resembles Steve Rogers. Deadline reports actor Channing Tatum as been approached by the studio to take a pass at the character. "I would be surprised if he went in to test for the role., now that he's become a bankable commodity. It'll come down to Marvel making an offer, and Tatum either accepting it or rejecting it," writes Deadline's Mike Fleming. Meanwhile, Ryan Phillippe tells MTV News he is taking a meeting concerning the film. Also, an update to that same Deadline mentions the search for Betsy Ross has intensified with a focus on British talent, naming Keira Knightley, Alice Eve and Emily Blunt as people under consideration."

Has he been officially announced? I read he was contacted about it, similar to how Krasinski et al have been contacted about playing Cap.

If I remember right, Marvel said not too long ago that they are going for more of the lesser known actors. I'm sure that's why we're hearing names like Chris Evans and Channing Tatum. They're "stars" but they aren't like BIG stars yet despite having some work under their belts. I think Marvel is really (and smartly IMHO) planning for the long term goal of a LOT of movies so they're looking at guys they can sign to multiple movie contracts without worries of early negotiations.

Looks like the part is Evans, should he decide to take it...

Out of those choices, I hope he takes it. I actually like Chris Evans, I thought he was good in Sunshine...

They could do worst then Chris. Still I would have preferred an unknown and someone bigger in size.

Well, at least Evans has some chops. I guess I stereotyped him a little too much as the smart ass he was as Johnny Storm... I hope he has the gravatas to pull off Cap. (If he takes it).

Alex Ross wants Jon Hamm. In that case, I vote for whomever Ross doesn't want. :lol

I think Chris Evans can pull it off, and this is one of the times that a good muscle suit will benefit the character a bit. Make the difference between Rogers and Capt more drastic.

Yes, exactly. On the other hand, I really hope he doesn't b/c he has such a big future in front of him, it'll be difficult to manage if he's tied down to one role.

It's official! Well, as official as I read it on the Internet gets... Chris Evans is Captain America!

(I'm on my phone so linking to the story ain't gonna work, sorry)

Johnny Storm is supposed to be kinda a jerk (especially if you're Ben Grimm)... And some of Johnny's charm was lost in the film. I lumped Evans in with rest of the pretty boy one trick ponies... But at the very least Sunshine proved to me he has some chops.

...and they sure couldve done much worse than this guy.

Yeah, Evans wouldn't have been my first pic but I think he's a good enough actor. I also have some high hopes because Joe Johnston is directing the movie and I like him. And the fact that it'll at least be partially (mostly?) a period film... Last time Joe did a period piece about a superhero, I became a bit of a fan ;)

I think this is an interesting choice... I think he has the look for Captain All-America as well. I'd like to see them do the pre-serum portion of the movie, then break for 6 months or so he can build up as much natural muscle as possible before continuing on with the rest of the movie. I'd prefer not to see a muscle suit if it can be avoided.

As for the director, I really enjoyed October Sky and Hidalgo, so I'm willing to give him some faith. :)
