Since this is a thread about a movie, is there anyone who has actually seen it with comments about it?
Yes, I went to see it yesterday with a friend, and we both enjoyed it very much. In my opinion, it's not in the very highest tier of Marvel movies but it's certainly up there with many of the better ones. It's terrifically entertaining and the three leads are really excellent, Iman Vellani in particular being outstanding, and they all seem to be having enormous fun. The contrast between the superheroics and ordinary life is done very well in the scenes with Kamala's family. And there are flerkins!
If I had a criticism, it's that the main antagonist is a little under-developed givenwho she is, but it's a minor criticism and there's plenty of jeopardy and suspense to be had.
You definitely need to wait for the in-credits scenes!
I liked the original Captain Marvel movie a lot, and Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel is one of my favourite MCU characters. This is a very satisfying sequel to that movie and continues her development, as well as a great continuation of various plotlines set up in the Wandavision and Ms Marvel TV shows. I'd very much like to see more of these characters, and this team-up, in the future.
For that reason, I think it's a shame that the movie been met with what seems an altogether disproportionate amount of negativity on social media, the more so since so much of that negativity seems to be from people who a) haven't seen the film and b) seem unable to allow others to enjoy it without making personal attacks on their motives, intelligence or taste. The unwarranted and sometimes disturbing attacks on the film's cast and crew are unpleasant too.
I rather miss the days when it was the norm for people to accept that tastes differ and other people should be allowed to simply enjoy things without needing to denigrate ar diminish that enjoyment. I think a decade of social media has horribly damaged some people's ability to carry on civil interaction. I'm just getting old I guess.
