The Mandalorian (TV series)

Has anyone here actually seen Knives Out? Or are you all boycotting it because “the bad man made it?” It was pretty entertaining. Also, letting him direct a single episode of any TV show or series, regardless of how you feel about TLJ, couldn’t possibly derail/destroy anything. Every episode of the Mandalorian so far has been directed by someone different and I think you’d be hard-pressed to tell. It’s more than likely that the directors are given a pretty short leash on how they interpret the story of the episode they direct, and that the main plotline and script were developed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. With few exceptions, like with auteurs or big enough directors that want to push through their artistic vision, directors mostly deal with actors and getting the right performance during production. Interpreting the script, not writing it.

Star Wars fans just love to personally attack anyone who makes a Star Wars film they don’t like. Remember when everyone said “George Lucas ruined my childhood?” Remember how Jake Lloyd got bullied for being in TPM, and Ahmed Best considered suicide after the reaction to Jar Jar Binks? I’m not saying that nothing should be criticized, but just remember that these are still people. They don’t deserve personal attacks, even if you think Rian Johnson is a mustache-twirling villain that wanted to ruin Star Wars. (Which he wasn’t.) I mean seriously, I hated Rose in TLJ, but that doesn’t mean I was one of the ones going after the actress on social media. I just think the character was poorly written, poorly cast, and poorly directed. Let’s just keep this thread away from ST talk and other personal attacks.

I hear Knives Out is pretty good and I do plan to see it... but comparing Directing what is essentially a movie version of Clue to something like StarWars?? I dont see much crossover. They’re very different things and should be treated as such when writing and directing further installments. Its the same reason Disneys “Marvel Formula” doesn’t work for StarWars no matter how hard they tried
Rians good at what hes good at, and likewise hes very bad at what hes bad at; and I’ll let you decide ultimately what was given to us in TLJ.
There are plenty of directors that are absolutely amazing but only suited to certain types of cinema. You wouldn’t want John Carpenter doing a StarWars film I think, even though he's directed some of my favorite films. And there’s plenty of examples of single episodes within a TV series completely derailing a overall story/season/feel. They really aren’t that hard to find if you actually look for them.. Hell Ive been rewatching X-Files recently and that ****** Vampire episode (“3”) in S2 is nigh unwatchable for me to the point that I almost stopped watching all together and now skip it on future rewatches so It doesn’t ruin the rest of the show for me.
What’s interesting is in that interview he says hes more open to criticism post TLJ, but his Twitter posts over the last 2-3 years have indicated anything but..
One thing I think we can all agree on is, regardless of his standing as a writer/director, he is most definitely the man with the roundest of heads

Found another fun one on Facebook. As a fan of Pixie and Brutus, I was very excited...

Does Disney always upload the new episode at the same time? Do we know what time that is? They really need a countdown timer on their website. I'm itching to see the next ep

I live in NM, the episodes usually drop around 1:30 my time. They seem to release over streaming devices first, then it hits the tv about 10-15min later.

There was an almost-bow-chicka-wow-wow-but-not-quite moment during the first half of the episode that made me chuckle.

Great show so far. The western cowboy or samurai hero saving the village or the town, while trying to stay hidden from bounty hunters. Classic story, put in the Star Wars universe. And of course: baby Yoda. What is not to like?

I want to know why baby Yoda hasn't been given a name yet. They said they were at that little village for a few weeks. Are you telling me in all that time none of those children asked it's name? Even if Mando had said "he has no name" the kids would've given it one, in some form or another. Kids always name stuff. Whatever they called it, that's what we should be calling it now.

Also, after seeing this episode I'm willing to bet that that in the last episode of this season we will finally see Mando's face. To go even further, I will bet it is the last shot in the last episode.

So just for funsies, I watched the second half of episode 3 again, before diving into 4.

This time I noticed the even more worn down storm troopers in the "concept art" at the end of the show. Wearing ponchos, some wearing cargo pants instead of leg armor, etc. I kind of wish that aesthetic had mad it into the show itself.

If you’re wondering why this episode felt like Clone Wars or Rebels, look no further for an answer. Reason one: they once again have to hammer home that Star Wars is inspired by Kurosawa, so they did Seven Samurai again. You know, like the episode of Clone Wars were they did the exact same thing, right on down to the same montage/shot of the villagers practicing with spears/sticks. Reason two: bad acting. The villagers—really, most everyone on the planet—seemed like they had just come from community theater. Kind of disappointed in this episode, but the good news is that they can’t do another Seven Samurai episode. The walker also seemed too…agile…for its size. The CG walkers never work for me, except in Rogue One

Oh, look... it's the vanguard of the "I hate fun" contingent... ;)

I, for one, loved this episode. It was fantastic and gave us some nice backstory for the Mandalorian, as well as introduced Cara Dune, who is freaking awesome. I've never been a big Carano fan, but she is doing a great job here.

Also, Imma need a baby Yoda AND a giant lothcat now!

Any reason why The Mandalorian couldn't have been rescued by A Mandalorian? I mean, he's a foundling... someone had to... uh... found him, right? His parents get killed while he's hiding (they're not wearing Mando gear so I guess they're not originally Mandos) and then a Mandalorian finds him and adopts him into the culture.
The reason I tend to think Jedi is to connect it to the moment he saw baby yoda use the force. You could tell that this moment meant something to him
