The Mandalorian - Camtono

Hey everyone.

Started working on my "Camtono" today for toting my stockpiles of Beskar.

Figured I'd share the progress. I know the original one from Empire is an ice cream maker, but the one featured in The Mandalorian has a few... functional details I wanted to capture.

Here's today's effort from the front:

I've carefully scaled and measured the placement of all the 'doors' the rotary at the top and the front/rear arms (or left / right depending on perspective I guess).

Side view, with the doors off, and a screengrab for reference:

Here's another front view with a different reference shot, note the model isn't rotated to align with the screenshot here, I was using it for measurements:

Obviously a long way to go yet, but it's roughed in pretty solidly for a day's effort.

More to follow.

That's brilliant. Should be neat if it actually is functional

Thanks very much. I'm hoping to get it there, but I guess we'll have to see how complicated the mechanism is going to have to be for that. Definitely open to suggestions while I work on the cosmetics.

The doors will open and close, and I suppose it would be easy enough to mount a servo or three plus an arduino inside, but I'm fairly inexperienced with the electronics unfortunately. I've seen a few projects with simple enough code that perhaps I could adapt, so it isn't outside the realm of possibility.

Damn. I started one last week. I made the mistake of starting to model it after an actual Hamilton Beach ice cream maker, but it turns out there are a lot of differences in the handle design.

Yours is looking further along than mine - I'll probably drop it.

Nah I wouldn’t drop it. I also won’t be doing an Empire accurate one, and there’s always room for more! Keep up the good work!

Small update:

Working on the switch panel. Fusion has me backed into a corner on the rocker switches for some reason, (can't sketch on an object that is extruded from a projection?) so I might have to rethink a plan of attack on those. Details are slowly falling into place though. Added some fillets around some of the seams where they were necessary around the neck of the rotary piece at the top:

Have you tried creating an offset sketch and then extruding downwards until you can join with the other body?

Sort of what I’m trying right now. I basically just need to slice off the top of the rockers so that they’re shaped correctly, but fusion is really unhappy about it.

Thanks for the kind words. I just don’t really see a major point since people cosplaying the ESB running guy can just buy a real ice cream maker. Much cheaper than a print. I guess I could make a 1/12 version for printing since there are fewer detail complications on a simple ice cream maker than the Mando prop - no switches or doors. Just fiddly stuff around the upper cone.

I personally can't find a icecream maker that look like the one in Mandalorian. They have all the latest and improve look.

I’m kind of looking at it like there are different models of the Camtono, but if you modeled and printed yours, it’ll be lighter and easier to carry around at a con, no motor to remove or cord to hide. I say go forth!
