The Last of Us HBO Joel Thread

Yeah, I replaced the incandescent with an LED. I am still debating on the rechargeable batteries. I haven't looked into the above adapters, but have looked at rechargeable D batteries. I know the problem with *them* are that they are only 1.2 volts each as opposed to the alkaline's 1.5 volts. They would still work, but I might not get as good performance out of them.
NiMH batteries are 1.2v, but they have a much flatter discharge curve than alkalines. Alkalines start at 1.5v and quickly decrease from there.

I'm either going to use an 18650 and print an adapter, or use some 3-AA to D cell adapters I have with rechargeables on mine. I also have a nice LED module coming. I think I'll opt to leave the rubber button in place, though I agree that it looks gone in the show.

Loving this thread.
Been wanting that flint and tinder tan waxed trucker for a season or 2 now- maybe a good reason to get one?
Also I have had a 3 x D cell maglight for 25 years. Should be close enough.

Rock on all

I got mine from MooseJaw...but it looks like they're suddenly sold out. I guess the word is out!

Seems like it, yeah. It's sold out everywhere, and being Europe based made it even more complicated. I managed to find one eventually, and for lower price than usual too, so there's that. I'm a bit worried about the polyester/shininess people have been pointing out here but I do like the pattern and the original, non-screen accurate sideways pocket design so we'll see.

i wonder if they are using ranger bands (bike tyre inner tube) to hold the clip on or paracord with the core removed to flat wrap it? if i was going to attached a clip to the maglite, i would tap it and use screws to attach it then use a ranger band to cover the edges. just how i would do it IRL.

I'm not sure yet. I REALLY like the jacket as an every day jacket. Much like my Musterbrand ESB Luke jacket, I think I'm going to just wear it and the eventual wear and tear will be weathering enough. Over time, the wax will wear, as will the cuffs and waist. We'll see... ;)
Your Joel kit is looking awesome...and I think that's a wise decision.

Personally I would just wear it and enjoy it too, and like you say it'll weather itself over time (y)

Yeah, you're right. Looks like it's just a clip from a measuring tape, and taped on with some 1/2 Inch gaffer tape. Then it's just clipped to his back pocket or D-ring on the pack:

I got lucky and found a wonderfully aged and weathered Mag Lite 2-Cell Xenon light on eBay for around $12. I grabbed the orange lens as well. Here's my quick flashlight build progress...

I have two shirts in hand already and they are very nice. Your concern about the shininess can easily be remedied with an orbital sander... or just a sanding block to rough up the surface a bit. You can tell in the close-up pics of him in the shirt that the costume department definitely roughed the shirts up quite bit. I think they call it "deconstruction". ;)

Looking nice! My flashlight needs a little more weathering I guess lol. Is your lens screwed all the way back towards the switch, or are you focused?

You weathered it precisely as the photos. Good job!
Thanks! I had to take a dremel bit to get specific places to wear correctly. I took sandpaper to the spots to smooth it out.

I've got some space to twist further down. Because of the construction of a Maglite, I can get essentially any focus I want. All you have to do is take the top ring off and figure out where to set the reflector (push it flush), and then screw the top on.

I'm fairly certain these are the gloves he has in episode 6:

If anyone has larger hands (Size 10), there's a new pair on ebay at the moment for $99.95 Link

I managed to grab a pair for $115 in my size

Edit: They are definately the right gloves, just heavily weathered:

Hello everyone,
It's amazing thread about The highest-rated TV show "The Last Of Us" I saw many things here and I'm interested to develop a backpack and Pedro Pascal shearling caot.
Do you think Pedro Pascal shearling coat would be as famus as Blade Runner coats?

Thanks

Added a few more accessories to my Joel kit this week! They don't make a Taurus 66 357 Magnum pistol in Airsoft, so I opted for a look-alike Colt Python. The holster is the same design too and fits any 4" barrel revolver. It does need some darker dye and weathering. The Buck knife is the proper style w/sheath as well.

Nicely spotted, looks to me like a 119 knife due to the black bands in the guard and pommel. Could be a 119 in a 124 sheath, but the older 119 sheath seems to be the right shape too.
