The Joker's Trench Coat (From the Comics)

I am currently creating the ultimate Joker costume from the comics - granted, I may not have the figure for it, so at the moment, I'm creating a costume based on Jack Nicholson's portrayal as the Joker (since he's more my size). I already have the tailcoat and the trousers (just a plain purple, mind, not the tartan(not a nice look IMO)) - the shirt and waistcoat I can get easily, and the topcoat that he wears I can create.

However, to complete the ultimate Joker costume, I need the trench coat - this one in particular...

I already have a pattern for it, so all I have to get are the fabric, lining and buttons.

UPDATE

Since I don't have the figure for this coat to look right (and to be honest, that's going to be a long time), I'm going to start on the Batman '89 Joker overcoat (as seen near the end of the movie).

Looking at the movie, it looks to be a standard 4x1 double breasted topcoat in purple. But can anybody tell me what material the collar is? It looks like suede leather to me. Can anybody confirm this?

I'd never even noticed this before. It's certainly a different material. If I look at it next to the gloves, it appears to be the same material, only dyed darker.

I'd guess it was done more because the material might be a little more friendly to the white make up than wool.

But everything I've said is speculation. I wonder if this costume as ever been displayed or up for auction...

I dunno about the overcoat, but I do know that the original costume was auctioned off some time ago. Shame the person who bought it hasn't spilled the beans on the patterns of the thing. I, too, am trying to put together a good Jack Joker costume (I've been trying to get this look down for the better part of 20 years now! :lol) and only now am I getting really close to getting it down pat.

I've never seen this coat on display, either, so I can only go by screenshots. Has anyone managed to see the coat? Can anyone confirm what the collar material is?

However, the question above is only for those who really want to get the coat down more screen-accurate, as I have decided that the collar will be suede leather. I have already found some material on eBay (including a suitable material for the coat - a wool/cashmere blend) which, I'm not going to lie, is not the right shade of purple. If you see on his own coat, the purple has more of a bluish-tint to it than the comic version - the purple I have chosen is a lighter shade. Again, I'm not going for total screen accuracy, but just enough.

Also, as a tribute to Heath Ledger, the coat is going to have a deep orange lining.
