The "I'm painting a Captain America Shield" thread

It's definitely not aluminum, it's steel. Valor has a really great build thread using the saucer sled years back.

Key is that once the paint is stripped, you need to use bright pads to simulate the spun aluminum effect, then once it's painted, clear coat both sides to prevent the oxidation from returning

It's been several years since I painted a shield up but the new Falcon and Winter Soldier series inspired me to add a John Walker version to my wall.

Thanks to Comic Sandwiches on Etsy for providing the disc. He unfortunately couldn't do real notches in the silver ring so I had to simulate it with paint.

I have a question I don't think deserves it's own thread, so apologies if it doesn't belong here. Not trying to hijack

So based on CA:TWS, Cap's shield is painted fresh for stealth missions & back to red after, which we see wear off during the battles in the film.

I've seen some replicas that emphasize that there's red visible under the blue, but haven't seen exactly what the process is to replicate this. Can anyone here share what they know about that?

love seeing how this thread still goes strong after all this time, also definitely getting a kick out of the newer versions of the shield... especially the bloody ones

I recently picked up the Hasbro “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” shield and decided to give it a repaint. I used Alumaluster for the metal effect and then sprayed Copic inks over top with a matte clear for the final finish. I used Scotchbrite for the brushed effect, though it practically disappears in the photos.. trust me, it’s there!

If I ever end up doing another one I will definitely use a brighter red, and probably a satin finish. I do really love the matte though. It’s so velvety.

That looks insanely good. I like how the reflective finish of the Alumaluster clashes with the matte dark red parts kinda like the Age of Ultron shield. Amazing job.

That is so amazing and exactly what I want to do with the one I got. I'm not good at spray painting so hopefully I won't mess mine up.

Painted up and assembled my kit from Alan Walker on Etsy. I hand buffed the red and blue portions with 3m rubbing compound to get that slightly dull look, but I'm looking to seal it. Anyone have any recommendations for satin/matte coats?

Hello,

What an excellent and informative thread. I gather from multiple posts that the Testors paints provide a great result and perhaps are easier to apply. Can someone clarify what exact name and color of the Testors paints I can look for to paint the red, blue of the shield.

You don't need a huge gun, it's not like you're painting a whole car. If you live near a Harbor Freight Tools, they have great gun kits and compressors at ecceptional prices.

I'd love to do a battle damaged shield. I know exactly what technique I'd use too...

I was curious, if you were going to try buying a paint gun and using that method to paint the shield, what brand and colors of paints would you put in the gun? It seems like most of the kinds I read mentioned here (Duplicolor and Testors) are rattle can paints.

Hey there! I think I read somewhere that the blue on his stealth shield was a vinyl wrap. Like how you might put a logo or graphic on a vehicle. And when you see pictures of it with the red coming through, it’s the wrap ripping and tearing.

Do you mind sharing where you sourced the straps from? They look a bit more heavy duty than the ones that come with Comic Sandwiches shields.

That is one of the best paint jobs I have seen on a non metal shield. Makes me consider repainting my cat toys sheild.

İt looks so beautiful , hello, can you give all the dimensions of this shield. How many cm are the circles etc.? I've been wanting to do it for years, but I wanted to know the dimensions. Thank you.
