The "I'm painting a Captain America Shield" thread

Then, to make the circular brush effect I used the finest sandpaper I found. It was 400 grain. And I screeched very lightly the shield following the ring direction. One ring at time. This operation also milded the chrome paint shining. And paint the blue ring.

Then I bought the cheapest hair sculpting gel (water based) I found and used to protect the parts of the shield I didn't want to paint with red. I used very much gel to be sure not to paint the wrong place. I spread the gel with bare hands and some time with a brush. This seems like the shield was still inside the ice like the end of the first avengers movie, hahaha.
Then I paint everything with red!

Yes, it was almost simple but you have to build your own lathe. I build the shield in plaster, modelled with the lathe and then some manual correction. Then make the mold etc...

If you check my profile you will find the thread of the costume of the avengers movie I made. In the thread there is the same process made from a sculptor I found at that time (2012). At that time i take the method and this time I made it by myself XD. But in both case I take so few documentation. :(

Thought I would mention. I saw they have metal saucer sleds for sale at Walmart. I know these can be tricky to find at times. Go! Buy them up an make some shields.

On the Walmart carrying the metal sleds to turn into shills front: I called my local and the person said they never got them but showing up in person I found an entire stack of them mixed in with the plastic ones they had.

So I got a saucer sled, cut it out and am now in the process of stripping the paint but wow is that a chore. Not coming off as easy as I hoped but I'm getting there.I'll be able to post some painting pics soon! (I hope)

I've just been using zip strip which is what they had at my local hardware. I left it on for about an hour and it still didn't come of extremely easy. but it did kind of start to fry before I stated sanding. I hope to do more work this weekend.

Hi, this is the shield I used with the TWS movie costume. It's made with resins and carbon fiber, so it will not shine as much as I would like. Anyway I decided to paint it like the teaser of the movie where almost all the red paint was gone.
First I paint the rings with two different kind of metal paint: alluminium for the "white" ring, the "blue" ring and the star, and chrome for the "red" rings.
I cant believe you killed your dog with that shield! Wait till PETA finds out! BTW AWESOME WORK SO FAR! On the shield, not the dog - I would never condone that.
