I actually don't use JB for the star... takes too long to cure... I use a 5 min epoxy for it and made up a "negative" version of the star dome out of wood and I place over it and put some weight on it.
Only three? :lol
Are they going for the "clean" look or "Battle-worn"?
Really? Not one battle damage? That's a shame. Quick question Frosty, would I need any specific type of paint gun for your method, or would any size work?
Well I painted the outer ring of my shield today. Will post pics when I get home. I'm following GF's advice and trying one heavy wet coat with the duplicolor paints. After I finished it looked like I messed up with heavy spray in some areas however as it is drying it is smoothing out nicely. I just have a few really small bare marks in the groove but nothing huge. I will probably wait a few days before taping up and painting the inner red ring just to make sure I don't pull any paint with the tape.

You don't need a huge gun, it's not like you're painting a whole car. If you live near a Harbor Freight Tools, they have great gun kits and compressors at ecceptional prices.
I'd love to do a battle damaged shield. I know exactly what technique I'd use too...
Out of curiosity why did you decide to paint the two red rings separately?
Damn man I grab a ton of crap from Harbor freight and I never thought to checkout gun kits. Any recommendations on what they have to pickup?

It was to avoid any over-spray when painting the inner ring that may cause any dusting or random spots. It may take an extra step but it seems to have worked well so far. Need to do the inner ring next. It is raining the next couple of days so it will probably have to wait until the weekend.
wow man that is pretty friggin impressive. I want to run out a buy a sled now
