The Hobbit - Weta Replicas / Collectibles - Launching Monday 1 OCtober

any feedback on the Erebor Key replica?

I picked up the Weta version for my wife. I looked at it and it seems to be well made and very nice for the low price. However I do not know anything about the actual prop but I would have to believe that Weta would know how to do it right. I did not take the stand out so I have no comment on it.

I got mine from thinkgeek.com and they have free shipping at the moment.

I got mine a few days ago , and I feel it very well done.It is metal made and have a correct weight , it is said that it is cast from the mold of the original prop , so i think it is one of the best purchases from weta at the moment ( along with Daniel Reeve props)
Please , weta , make hobbit smoking pipes!

I bought the key for a friend and the stand is quite nice. It has a good look for display. I can also say that the Noble Collection is TERRIBLE. It is too small, no weathering, the linked part is solid, not open. Just AWFUL.

I got mine a little while ago, and a little bigger than i thought it would be considering its supposed to be made by Dwarves. Here is a few pics in my display.

You will note a few pages back I asked about the scale of the prop replicas. Such as items like Sting, were made in different scale to coordinate with the proper scale in relation to 1:1 and those that need to be heard by an actor who will later be shrunk down in CGI (hobbit, dwarves...). Those that have bought official Sting replicas in the past know that there are also different sizes that can be purchased because of this.

I think the assumption can be made that the key would be made in both sizes as well and therefore both the sizes of the NC and Weta key may also be correct based on which prop scale variant it was modeled after.

The key is very nice... I dont know where it will appear in the movie or if it will appear in the first part of the Hobbit (will know more tomorrow :love ) but I like the key...

The only thing what bothers me a littleb it is the Copyright print on the key...

Here are some pics to show you how it looks and the size...

Looked at it under a microscope last night; it is, unfortunately, engraved. My mistake, but now we know. It is definitely engraved - I could see the laser scribe lines in the tungsten.

That's too bad then. Cuz tungsten carbide may crack if force is applied to remove the engravings.

If we are showing off rings, here is a picture of my JH and non-official replica of solid brass by 5postboy, prior to him becoming a scumbag. :unsure

Ok, then. Whats that $100 ring we talk about?

Yeah, for me - I'll take my $100 Ring with the hallmark and just display it so the mark doesn't show.

And I think I will need a new Erebor Map... My map is cool, but after watching the movie I have the feeling it fits more to the LOTR movie, because it looks older and the ink is more grey than black...

I noticed the Hobbit version had really black ink, so I think I will look for another one... After everyone is bashing noble, is there another source WITHOUT any brands, logos or copyright signs?

user jheilman makes a fantastic map that hes been selling for quite a while, i remember there being some questioning as to its accurateness to whats seen in the hobbit, and him possibly changing some things, but this was all based on the trailers before the movie came out.

ive got one and its pretty nice. but im not a stickler for 100 percent accuracy, so i havent taken the time to research it compared to the map as seen in the hobbit.

Stivie, awesome display man! Do you mind me asking where you got the sting replica? (I'm still new to LOTR/Hobbit replicas, sorry if this has been mentioned before)

I have his map, but its aged and looks more like the FOTR map... As I said, more grey colours as black...

Defineatly want a newe looking map... But the $200 for the WETA replica map is too much for me and it looks on the other map for $30 is the WETA sign and copyright, etc.

Thanks, my Sting is the United Cutlery Museum Collection version that comes with the collectors wooden box. I also have the MC Glamdring -/the box.

So i stopped at Barnes N' Noble, and they had the Noble Collection Thror's Map & Key display. Holy crap that thing is tiny, and $35 as opposed to the $80 or whatever everywhere else. I'm not sure if maybe this is a shrunken version?

Anyway, the little key it comes with is available from the same mold as a keychain there, just weathered different, still metal. The key is closer to 3-4 inches. Is this accurate for a human sized key, where the Weta replica is more the Dwarf scale key?
