The Enterprise Restoration Project

I have to admit, there are a lot of posts in this thread and I didn't read them all. I merely skimmed over the highlights for about 5 minutes. If somebody already made this suggestion, I apologize.

What about Kickstarter ?

I can't say that I'm familiar with how that site works, but I'd be willing to donate to that fund to prove to the NASM that funds will be available for this project!

Then use social media including creating a Facebook page and Twitter account to draw attention to the Kickstarter page. I'd love to see this project completed and done right.

Hilarious, I was just about to suggest the same thing! Kickstarter + social media. Good idea!
 
Kickstarter is designed for original creative projects rather than what we're trying to do, but the idea of "crowd funding is still viable for our projects.
 
Restoration or bust?

Raise as much as possible, with a good percentage of the funds raised also going to NASM education efforts to sweeten the pot for them to accept. Failing all that, the moneys go to Challenger Center.

Don't even get me started about that crappy paint job.
 
I think the idea's of using social media like Facebook are great idea's. Using kickstarter to raise funds you could make it out to be a documentary of the restoration of the Enterprise and give a DVD to everyone who donates $20 dollars or more. I'm sure many fans would love to see her being put back together in her original state and gladly pay 20 for the DVD and knowing that there donation is going toward the restoration of an important American cultural and historical artifact. Also just as an idea to throw out there wich this might smack of blasphamy to some but to take advantage of the current trend of new enterprise movies and see if the studio's would help foot the restoration bill as a publicity stunt to link the old to the new. The could get ahold of any of the original cast and get a couple of the new kids that are doing the films take a bunch of pictures and get on the front of a few magazines and whatever the studio would pay out for the restoration would payback in advertising for the next movie assuming there is going to be a next one after this one that comes along. The biggest hurdle I see there is convincing them it would be worth there time and money. Once you have there financing and backing I would imagine the Smithsonian would be happy to go along with it just as long as talk of botched restorations is quieted. Or as another idea to put out there if the studio wasn't interested the idea of helping finance the restoration companies like Qmx who make high end commercial models would be very fitting also since the could also do well with the publicity.

Not who I meant, but I don't like what he did to the E either.

Im told from a reliable source there was a huge struggle to keep it as familiar as possible. It would have looked even MORE funky,, but they ran out of money so it defaulted to more of the MOTION PICTURE look for half of it.
 
Spoke about this via email this morning with Ron Moore, and invited a few more to join in like Rod Rodenberry, Rich Coyle, and others. I also got a nice message from Bjo about this project. Our ranks are growing folks! :)
 
Please please please have Steve paint it, or at least supervise it!!:cool

Maybe a common place to pledge funds and support would be useful.
Not a place to actually donate yet, simply a petition site to start adding names of people that will give money and keep track of how much people are willing to donate.

Then the next step could be an actual fundraising site.
