The Enterprise Restoration Project

Quite frankly the Star Trek props would be far better off released from the museum, and placed into private hands.

You mean like the STMP ENTERPRISE or the STNG D? Meaning know one on this site or this community knows where they ended up after Chrisitie's auction, or isn't telling.

Doing all of us a lot of good being able to see them and all...:angry

Paul Allen has them.

Getting back on track folks...more to come. :)

Is there any news about this project? There seemed to be a lot of fire early on and then nothing in months. Please tell me this is still happening.

I worked in Ed's workshop when he restored the model and he used black & white pictures that were taken after it was originally painted. This is how Ed explained it to me when I asked him why the shading was so dark. The photos showed heavy shading and for the shading to look as it did on screen, it had to be heavy. Now I personally think it should look like what we see on the TV with the correct decals (not the joke ones) and with light shading.

I will donate for the restoration.

(Edit) I tried to get Ed to be not so heavy on the shading but I was just the guy he hired to machine the aluminum parts for the phasers he sold to dealers, what did I know.

i havent had a chance to read thru this whole thread yet... as i dont have the time right now.. but i will... i hope things get pushed further and that things go BACK to the way they were... SHE deserves to look proper.. not "gussied up" to someone elses vision

How can I help?

I am an original Star Trek Fan and have followed all of the deriatives (i.e Next Generation, Voyager, all of the movies and digitizing of original series videos and even Phase II productions.

I submitted material to Franz Joseph for the original Star Trek Technical Manual and would like in some way help to restore the original Enterprise Studio Model.

I am located just outside Wastington, DC so I have instant access to the Air & Space Museum facilities and have an engineering degree in electronics and computer science from the University of Maryland College Park with many, many years of followup experience.

I'm just throwing my hat in the ring to be of service.

Best,
Bob Mroz

Hello all, I'm glad I found this forum. I just visited DC and was surprised by how badly the model has aged since the last restoration. Also, in person, the weathering is much sloppier than I expected. Anyway, as you know there are several cracks and a large piece of paint is falling off the nacelle. Anyway here's a link to some photos I took: Anthony Dunnigan

The cracks and paint issues are a good thing in my view. Because that can help prompt a restoration and get her back to studio appearance sooner.
