The Definitive Peter Quill/Star-Lord Costume Thread

Modified, repainted, added a combination of Allen head and set screws details to this bobble head X Coser Larger size helmet. Micro string red LEDs powered by 2 CR2032 watch batteries. We used 6 LEDs per eye and 1 for the right side ear area as seen in the movie. Will be retired to our Home theater once we take delivery of the 2 piece version from TheRocketeer. Original SONY TPS-L2 WALKMAN i restored myself from YouTube tutorials. Works and sounds perfect. Bought the carrying case separately so we can strap it to our belt. Open face version vs the closed face book like version which is common. I use it on a daily basis now for the sake of nostalgia. My good friend dropped off 100+ cassette singles from back in the day so i have a wide variety of music. A empty but more screen accurate AWESOME MIX VOL 1 is used. We bought the RSD Official cassette version just to be able to listen to the GOTG soundtrack. Headphones are Radio Shack Realistic NOVA 45 with custom cut ear pads made from makeup sponges and repainted with a light coat of Testors Racing orange acrylic paints. Also for our cosplay to blare out the GOTG soundtrack via the JAM REWIND 4 speaker sound in the cool retro cassette design. It has bluetooth. It is quite loud and clear as sound comes from both the front and rear.

Just got my jacket back from our local seamstress. Re-antique zipper added and angled cut done to the cuff areas. NOTE: It's one tough zipper so we added some Zipper-Ease lubricant to the teeth to smooth it out a bit. As of current takes some strength to zip this together. It was very affordable and just 2 blocks away from our home :) Also not 100% screen accurate but a homage to the Young Peter Quill outfit i am building for my son. 1980s vintage Jansport back pack with various patches added: NASA MEATBALL patch was the only 1 i can ID. Not screen accurate palm tree, planet Earth and PacMan GHOSTS which was seen when we were first introduced to the young Peter Quill. My son loves it. Vintage plaid red and black wool hunting jacket is from SEARS. Gray RIVER Rafter t-shirt worn by the Young Peter Quill and Bereet on order. Hope this helps in your build. My friend will be coming over this late afternoon to paint the arm badge glyph and valve. Distress and wear will be added to darken the overall look as best as possible.

If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for the zipper swap and cuffs? Looking into getting it done (I have the zipper already)

So this is just me throwing my Project on the floor quickly......but I'm happy with the progress. Just have to finish the pants - and get my arm bracer and rocket booster - which are in the mail I hear.Layot.jpg

PHASE 1: After 6 straight hours of dry brushing with a small paint brush to achieve the effects seen on the synthetic leather jacket. 1 small bottle of Black Tamiya acrylic paint were used. Looks a helluva lot better then in the stock form when purchased. My friend only did this as a favor to me. Usually he would charge a lot to do this!! He will not do one even for $$$$ due to the time :) Just E-6000 the high resolution 3D printed jacket valve [purchased from user: joatrash] and urethane cast with iron powder arm glyph badge [purchased from user: Risu]. Beautiful pieces of art IMHO!!!! Those were painted and dry brushed extensively. WOW :) Night and Day difference!!! Love it!!! PHASE 2: More wear will be added to the seam and related areas via airbrush and maybe other colors to add more depth and layers!!! And PHASE 3: My friend will free hand draw the sub dermal embossing hoohickeys for me next and a visit to the local Tandy Leathers to make this more screen accurate. Will be deemed finished after PHASE 3!! Enjoy. Cannot wait to wear it to the show this weekend.

Anyone have any recommendations for a tailor? I'm trying to get the Ravager flight suit from the end of the movie made (specifically, the pants since I can buy a version of jacket and modify it via a link from this thread). Tried going to God Save the Queen but they're booked till 2016. :-/

Whoever you go with, be sure to specify the suit isn't leather! It has leather components, but it's not all leather.

Jacket looks great! I need to get mine weathered and replace the zipper.
Kevin need to publicly THANK YOU for all the hard work in helping us 3D print those Boot Rocket Boosters for myself and my son and for making the other Star Lord parts avail. Will post pics of them boot rockets when finished. I ended up notching them at the bottom to add actual metal rod details. JB Weld is our friend to fill in my errors!

I'm right there with Kevin... I really need to do mine like that! Looks great!

Thanks starlordquill. My good friend whom did all the hard work does not have account here but THANKS everyone for the praises. He use to work in the movie prop and toy industry so he has decades of experience. Clear your schedule for the day. Just take your time. Very very time consuming and the end result is so worth it. Polished a turd into a diamond so to speak :) Also my friend used black Tamiya acrylic paint to get this result. The vinyl jacket mateials accepts it without any hiccups whatsoever.

Well, tried my hand at soldering a LED into an earpiece 3d print last night. Ended up breaking my switch so I have to try again. And I only burned myself once! ;)

Whoever you go with, be sure to specify the suit isn't leather! It has leather components, but it's not all leather.

I would even go so far as to say that it contains almost no leather at all. I haven't studied it too intently yet, since I don't know if I will eventually tackle it or not, but the only leather of note in the flight jacket that I have found is the left shoulder edge, and parts of the upper back armor. Perhaps a couple of the waist armor panels are leather as well. There's a section of the inner-front (right side) that is shiny, with a slightly embossed grid-like pattern that could be either leather or some form of vinyl. (I think it behaves more like vinyl and I haven't found any grain in it yet. However, there IS a leather flap connected to it, so it might be leather anyway. It would certainly be more durable for filming.)

For the pants, there seem to be leather holster pads on the legs similar to those on the black corduroys. The inside of the legs look to be velvet. It could be suede or something as well- both catch the light in a similar fashion but I would guess it's velvet, since that material is used in a few other Ravager costumes, such as Yondu's. The jacket itself is just as complex pattern-wise as Quill's "main" cotton jacket. Some of the panels are not reverse-sewn, but attached onto backing material, probably elastic, which isn't surprising since it's a tight and stiff jacket that he still has to move around in a lot.

Other than that, the main construction of the flight suit is a variety of canvas-like materials. The main material has a variant of the screen print pattern that is also present on the gloves as well as other costumes. (You can see a lot of the same screen printed patterns used throughout all the Ravager costumes, which makes sense from both a visual point as well as a financial one.) One of the more difficult parts to get accurate will be all the decorative stitching that covers it, along with the embossed leathery "circuitry" that all Ravager clothes have. It's also pretty evident that there is a lot of stiff backing material, because the jacket barely wrinkles, and it also doesn't seem to be lined, at least in the usual way.

(Yeah, I've been looking at too many still frames of this film!)
