The Definitive Peter Quill/Star-Lord Costume Thread

You can also see them lit up on set in some of the recent behind the scenes video.

Just checked it out. Man, those things are confusing. I'm going to do another test with blue acrylic today, but now I'm no sure if the ring of LEDs is in front of the blue lens, or if they're edge lighting it. Either way, I don't know how they get such a solid red color out of blue plastic.

I'm convinced it's two layers. Clear in front of blue, and the blue is used to help balance out the color for vision purposes

It's definitely clear in front of a laser etched blue. Check out my build thread for a picture of my blue lenses. There's a ring of red LEDs around the eye, I just haven't figured out yet if they're in front of the blue lenses or around them. I'll be able to figure that out once my LED strips come in and I can do some actual tests.

I'm not sure yet if the blue will cancel out the red light, that's what I'm hoping. So far my tests with a plain white LED have resulted in complete blindness. I do think that the blue masks off the wearer's eyes perfectly though, so that may have been their intent.

I bought the Pakistan jacket (this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321587625372?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649) off eBay and it arrived today.Does anyone else have severe sizing issues? I went for the XS, a size that normally fits like a glove, and I checked all the measurements beforehand, yet it fits like a medium. Definitely not slim fitting at all. Also, I opted for the synthetic leather, but what I got was more akin to upholstery vinyl; stiff as all hell and refuses to drape right. And another word of warning, mine came with tearing by one of the pockets and one of the brass buckles on the arm peeling away from the leather. Quality control was obviously not a big deal when selling these jackets.

Does anyone know a method to soften faux leather?

Forget trying to soften it, just demand a refund. Wrong size and arrived damaged. You are covered for stuff like this on an auction. Get your money back.

Just thought I'd share some rocket controls I made that actually light up:

If anyone is interested in a pair, I have an INT/build thread in the classifieds section.

That was my first instinct, but with the event I'm wearing Star Lord to approaching in in a couple of weeks, I'm running out of time. There's no point in a Star Lord without the red jacket.

I hate to say it, but I ordered my jacket it too came from Pakistan and it was perfect fit. I did order the real leather option, so maybe that made the difference. The only thing I was expecting was for the jacket to be a little redder. I was wondering about using a leather stain and attempting to maybe make it a little redder myself. I want to distress it too a little as it looks and smells new and as much as I love it, I need it to look more worn.... which I will be wearing it all the time anyway but still. Ultimately, Im happy with my purchase.

Apologies if this has been mentioned, but I found nada using the search function:

Star Lord's rocket controls - Surely I'm not the first person to look at those and think "Those have to be cheap MP3 players"?
The circle in the middle definitely looks like it's got "> >> << II" markings, right?

Someone has said it before. I bet they were scratchbuilt, but I could be wrong.

Hm. Could be. Looks mass produced to me though.
Maybe a radio, remote control, or FM transmitter doohickey?

We're essentially at the end of the "found parts" era. Even things that look off-the-shelf, like gloves and gogles are becoming so cheap and easy to custom make with the help of rapid prototyping technologies, that studios would be stupid not to use them, since it means they can make as many of the prop as they want in case any are damaged, rather than hoping they can acquire enough.

...it's both better AND worse for guys like us.

I know the screen used ones are painted resin, but I don't know if the masters were completely scratch built or not.

See, when someone says "Scratch built. More likely 3d printed.", Kevin, it looks like you're saying that you know that for a FACT.
Are you? Or is that just your opinion on how it looks?
If you know for a fact and can verify it, great... No need to keep looking.
If it's just an opinion, though - Well, look at how many other things we've "known" about various props over the years!
Obi Wan "grenades", the muzzle for Han's blaster etc etc :)

Star Lord's shoe soles are from Skechers. And also all/most of the Ravagers' soles as well. And the valve on the jacket is definitely from something, it's not printed or sculpted.
