The Definitive CW Arrow Thread

I think I found a great detail in terms of arrows.

Looking at this shot I may have ID'd the arrow fletches.

They appear to be Trueflight Full Length Barred in either the White Barred or Grey Barred colors.

Not cheap from the looks either. Not sure how many would go this route to make arrows (im making visually close ones as there is no way I want to shell $100 on real ones). To each their own though.

I've been staring at this photo and realize something about the fletches:

Earlier in one post (cant find it yet) there was mention of the size and cut. These look much closer to a shield cut fletch.

The parabolic is more rounded in their rear shape. These are found on the hip quiver:

I'm looking up the closest match. I am however returning some plastic vanes, or fletches, that looked bad compared to the feathered material. Still on the hunt but am getting close to a good base start.

The discussion you are looking for happened on page 9.

The back and hip arrows use a 3" parabolic feather that is custome dyed for the show. This has been confirmed by production members.

The flechettes use a 1.75-2" shield cut feather. It has not been confirmed, but I believe these are also custom dyed.

Ok. Think I might have got this down. Will pull a trigger soon but I think I at least have a layout:

The flechettes use what I think is the Gateway 2" shield cut (called Rayzr by their branding) in the Chartreuse color.
Gateway Rayzr 2" Feather

The rest of the arrows use a Gateway 3" parabolic cut that looks to be a mix of Green and Desert Brown.
Gateway Parabolic 3" Feather

We know the dying effect to be a part of production. If I had to take a guess I would think they gave both a darkish-brown/yellow mix to almost dirty/desaturate the color more.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Forgot to say thanks pinder for that redirect back to pg.9

EDIT 2:
Here are links to the Gateway site for purchase and ID

Desert Brown 3" Parabolic

Green 3" Parabolic

Chartreuse 2" Shield Cut (or Rayzr on their brand)

I suppose having an idea of what to look for will give you a better spectrum of how many you could order/need

I was personally leaning toward the leaf green 3" parabolic from Trueflight as a starting point.

hey guys, not sure if this has come up before but for the boots, nike make a military boot that uses a sole based off the sole of the free run soles. might do as an alternative to the screen boot. and wouldn't be hard to add to the top of the boot to make them taller like arrows
Nike Special Field Men's Boot

i posted this a while back but i guess it got buried.thought it was relevant with all the discussion on the boots

Maybe so, but while it may be based on Free Runs, the soles are still much different than the FR2s. Nonetheless, thanks for pointing it out though for those interested.

I think those would be a pretty good alternative especially since as best as I can tell they don't make free runs in the right color any more (maybe I just can't find them).

I went with Bates Zero Mass Tactical boots just because they do roughly the same thing are nearly a third of the price. Again, not authentic.. But light weight and it beats cutting and gluing on 100+ dollar shoes.

Kinda off topic but does anyone know where I can find this jacket(s) that Stephen Amell is wearing in this pic? I found it on Instagram.

I posted a pic of the arrows I made based on the island arrows on page 15 if you want to take a look. Pm me if you have any questions on how I made mine or where I got my materials from.

Thanks, guys! Would we also agree that the top opening is slightly wider than the bottom (meaning, it opens out from the back a bit more)?

I'll try to post some pics of my quiver but I made mine using leather and my only reference was that single back pic. I actually had mine scaled close to what was mentioned. It was 20 inches long by about 4 inches at the bottom to 6 inches at the top. The only big difference was I didn't have the slit but made two loops with the leather.

The quiver is very heavy though and awkward on the back. In last weeks episode it show him jumping and the quiver is able to bend with the curve of his back.

My plan is to use 5mm foamies with black canvas spray glued to it. It will be light and flexible. I can use foam inside at the bottom and just before the slit to hold the arrows and stabilize the quiver as much as possible.

The other thought to help prevent the quiver from sliding off the right shoulder and pulling up on the chest is to have a loop on the top of the right shoulder by the trap muscle and another one on the back near the scapula. I can show current pics with the quiver sliding down. Here are two examples on my costume. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399039450.075241.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1399039463.031061.jpg

Please don't mind my hood, plan on making a new one. My costume was made during season one with little references at the time.

Btw, I did have the opportunity to ask Stephen Amell and there are other ways to stabilize the quiver on the back and different quivers all depending on what's needed for that particular scene. Besides hero shots examples such as riding the motorcycle, parkour, and rolling around.

Interesting. I hadn't considered using foam to make the quiver. My current plan is to make a mockup of the quiver using poster board. This will allow me to get a general feel for size and whatnot. I'm a bit smaller than you guys (shoulders aren't quite), so I thought I might have to adjust the size a bit to fit me better. I figured if the mockup worked out really well, I'd just use epoxy resin to harden it up and go from there. Might have to explore this foam option though...

Thanks for the input! I really appreciate all of it.

I got the pics at walker stalker con in Chicago. My costume actually started as a Cosplay sky purchase. I modified it from the reference pics. Actually still working on it. As far as color I took all of my reference pics and divided them up by lighting conditions. I then used liquitex diluted with denatured alcohol and sprayed it on fabric samples from my costume. I then took pictured and compared it to similar lighting conditions. It was a bitch because the color dries different than when it was wet. The whole process took me over a month till I felt ok with it.

Nice job Zerog! The costume is FUNKY when it comes to colour, including the Hip Quiver, it definitely started out brown and was sprayed a few times.

Foam is a good alternative for sure, I thought of it myself :). They likely have a few different versions, for stunts etc, so its never off base.

The top of the quiver is held on with a snap on the yoke of the hood, as seen in the Roy training sequences. Velcro and snaps hold many TV and film costumes together :)
