The Book of Eli machete pattern - FREE

Elis machete looks like the Filipino Barong I have seen about a couple dozens videos of guys making these things

I have one of Miketribal's machetes which I believe was created from a modified version of Ghostsolider's design (it has been so long, I can't remember exactly. Last winter, I picked up an original handle for the machete used for the CG effects. It became clear that the original handle design was much too large on the Miketribal version so I bought a metal cutoff blade for my miter saw (not sure this is the right way to do it, but it worked) and hacked off and reshaped the back to more closely match my screen used piece. There are still some discrepancies, but the piece now feels a lot better and more comfortable.

Here is a quick before and after to show what I removed. The cool thing is that this serves 3 purposes:

1) More screen accurate
2) Fits my hand better
3) because the handle is not smaller, it makes the blade feel even larger and more menacing!

NO doubt. I have an original and I STILL don't know what it is.

Which also reminds me... I was supposed to get you a measurement wasn't I?

Speaking of which, I finally got around to putting somewhat of an edge on my blank... Worked it over on my belt sander, then cleaned it up with a hand file. Smoothed everything out with 60, then 150 grit sandpaper, and polished it with 800. I'll polish the bevel a bit more, and then dirty it up

Thank you! Wouldn't have been possible without your pattern :)

Tonight I also pinged and shaped the scales. All it needs now is some stain on the handle, the leather wrapping, and some weathering!

Also, just for the record (not to burst any bubbles), there are no scales on the original machetes. The leathers simply wraps around the bare metal.

No bubbles burst! Mine won't be a faithful replica to the original, but more an idealized version. Thanks for the measurement :thumbsup

Finally finished the wrap on my 1075 carbon steel miketribal blade. Not screen accurate really, but I had fun doing it while watching a Game of Thrones marathon last night. I used some 1/16" leather cord that I twisted as I wrapped and some waxed leather lace on the ends.

Finally got around to wrapping my handle. I used 1/4" deerhide lace I purchased on ebay (25') and twisted as I wrapped. I secured the end with a little bit of hot glue, then wrapped each end with some black artificial sinew. The lace I used was originally a whiskey tan color, so I put a couple coats of neatsfoot oil on to darken it. I just finished applying the oil before I took these pics, so this isn't the final color (though it's pretty close to what I'm shooting for). I'll let it dry overnight and see how I like the color. If needed, I'll apply a couple more coats of oil, and maybe a little bit of dye to reach the color I'm looking for.

All that is left to do is weather the blade!

Wow, Kevin! That is one of the most accurate replica wraps I have seen to date! Awesome!!!

BTW, I just picked up a production-made blank. I wonder if it would be worth getting turned into a pattern and getting new metal machetes made.

Thank you, Art! That's high praise coming from you :)

That blank looks great too! I'm sure many people would love a new drawing based on it
