Well, I gotta say I didn't hate this one. I thought it was a definite improvement over the last episode. Not perfect but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.
The mod parlor was absolute cringe with terrible music but I guess that's how they are gonna explain why Fennec has robotic innards when it would've made more sense for her to have had bacta treatment. Apparently Fett didn't have access to that and it was the best he could do. I suppose I'll buy that.
I like that we finally hear some motivations and the logic behind Fett wanting to bother with the crimelord game. I don't think this show is gonna delve as deep as we had hoped but the odds were against it I suppose. I thought it was potentially interesting that Fennec did not recognize Fett when she woke up. While not conclusive, it struck me that this could be an indirect reference that perhaps she had only seen him helmeted and he didn't in fact remove his helmet as often as "new-Fett" does now. I would think given the circles she operated in, she surely was aware of him before and otherwise surely would've recognized him. I also like that Fennec even mentions that living with the Tuskens has made him soft and I believe that's the first reference we have had within the show that he is indeed different than he was. She recognizes that and knows what he once was. For better or worse, this is not pre-RoTJ Fett. Whether or not that's the Fett we wanted to see, at least it's self-referential. Maybe one day we'll get a show with a younger, less weather-beaten Fett in his prime, with the cold, dark side many fans wanted to see. lol!
I guess banthas are actually omnivores?
Still curious how Bib Fortuna double-crossed Fett. Maybe this was something that didn't happen recently but still kinda weird to bring up with no explanation regardless.
I just adore Slave I. It's bar none one of my favorite ship designs. I still wish they had gone with the TESB interior rather than the earlier AOTC version but whatever. I always enjoy seeing Slave I in action and wiping out the biker gang was one of the more visceral things we've seen in a show that so far has been pretty tame. I do think he'll later see it was probably not that gang that wiped out the Tuskens, as Fennec suggested. I do find it weird that the sarlacc's grip is apparently strong enough to overpower a ship. His difficulty getting the ship out of the the palace motor pool was also weird considering he presumably flew it in there and unloaded Han. Unless the ship had been moved there in his absence. Presumably this is where the Khetanna would've been stored so given the space Slave I takes up, it seemingly would've been in the way if it had been there the whole time. Also, if they're gonna avoid saying "Slave I", the scene where he mentions retrieving his "Firespray gunship" was serviceable to me. The ship isn't renamed it would seem; they are just skirting around the issue. Still silly but it's whatever.
I guess the reason behind Fett's extensive bacta treatments was indeed the sarlacc's acid but from his second go around. Seems weird it'd be so potent given the slow digestion rate (even if it doesn't actually take 1000 years). He didn't really look any worse off than he already did though. I'm not sure why he thought his armor was in the sarlacc unless he was just in survival "autopilot" during his escape and was delirious enough to not remember.
Seeing Krrsantan again was nice and I was so glad they had him rip the Trandoshan's arm off even after Garsa's long spiel. My eyes were prepared to roll mightily but was pleasantly surprised. I will say it seems sketchy for Fett to trust Krrsantan, given his track record.
Judging from the riff at the end, I suppose Mando is going to make an appearance, which is neat I suppose, but I would've much rather heard the classic "bounty hunters" leitmotif we heard in TESB. Maybe it would be cheesy for them all to come to his aid but at least seeing one or two again would be neat.
Also, with this episode, I think we've now finally seen all that the previews showed. We should now be in the dark for the final three episodes (for anyone that watched all the previews).
