The Book of Gin Darlin’ Commentary: Ep. 5

We over did it tonight and had to take some breaks for “recovery” in the bathroom. LOL

She also couldn’t see from bed, so had to sit about 6 inches away from the TV the entire time.

Me: “Look, can you tell me who those characters are?”
Her: “Obviously Boba Fett, the biker girl, and I don’t know his big face.”

“Is this Star Wars? You hit something else. This is a meat factory.”

“Oh MY Beskar is back. Look at that Beskar.”

“Who are those people?”
“Klatoonians.” (Same question as last week)
“Dog people.”

(The bounty target saying the puck hologram isn’t him)
“It’s obvious to me it’s him. Can he not tell it’s him? What an idiot.”

“He bit him like a dog. I told you. Dog people.”

“He hurt his own leg. Idiot.”

“The guy who runs past Mando to get the money? That’s me. The world doesn’t need bosses. They need…I don’t know. Not bosses.”

“Is his head in that bag?”

Me: “It’s like a Halo ring.”
“I played Halo once. Those ring…Wait, he isn’t limping with the right leg.”

“I can’t read the captions that fast.”

“He’s limping wrong. He needs my knee brace I wear sometimes.”

“He switched legs again. It’s left right left or something.”

Her: “What do those symbols mean?”
Me: “They’re directions to the covert.”
Her: “You can read that language? Why didn’t I know that?”

“The armor put some little feathers on her shoulders.”

“That’s the fat Mandalorian. We bought him at Walmart.”

“It switched legs again. I’m a nurse and I know it switched.”

“You can be fat, but that doesn’t make you powerful.”

“Don’t give the spear away. Don’t give my spear away. Why would he do that? It was pointy.”

“I don’t like how droids walk.”

“This is my least favorite episode so far, and that means you probably like it.”

(The Armorer making the chain mail links)
“Are those soda can tabs?”

(The little baby Yoda shaped bag on screen)
“It’s the Harry Potter thing. The zilch. The stilch. The stilt. What is? You know what it is.”

“So it’s getting heavier? Or is he getting weaker?”

Me: “Those are the star cruisers that are on Tatooine.”
Her: “Are they transporting prisoners or slaves?”
Me: “Civilians, just passengers.”
Her: “I thought so.”

(RX Droid from baggage claim)
“OH! Look, the guy, our guy from the thing.”

(R4 droid passes the camera on board the ship, this comment really impressed me)
“Oh look, an R4.”

“Kid Greedo is really ugly.”

(R5-D4 on screen, this reduce the impressing)
“Oh look, a R4 again.”
(We then paused and talked about droid designations for about 5 minutes, and all the sudden she started balling. I asked what was wrong, and she said she thought R5 was an R4 for the last 30 years, ever since she was a little kid.)

“Is that a pod racer?”

“This lady is like a hairy 80’s (female dog). She’s goofy. I bet you don’t like that.”

(Jawa dating portion)
“That’s really odd. She looks like a Jawa.”

“HA. He just said something like ‘blow a shaft.’”

“That little droid is really adorable, but just kind of helpful.”

Me: “That’s the piece from the Death Star trash compactor.”
Her (sarcastically): “A-WOW.”

“It’s like a chicken and a dinosaur. But they probably don’t know dinosaurs are chickens.”

“When they turn it on, he better not put his tongue in the purple energy because it will go numb, like this, ‘my tongue, my tongue.’”

“Most people won’t say this, but some women are dumb, and some know about engines, and I only know about engines, but that’s really something.”

“That’s the same picture. The pod race was there.”

Her: “He’s flying pretty good to be drunk.”
Me: “You’re the drunk one.”
Her: “Oh yeah.”

“Baby Greedo is just so ugly.”

“Is that X-Wing pilot Justin Long?”

“Oh! Oh! It’s the guy. The pilot with the beard! He’s in the originals. Or something. I know he’s in something else.”

“Wizard. Hahahaha…Wizard.”

“Fennec Shand is hot. I bet you’d be like, ‘hey, come to my hangar.’”

As soon as the credits role, she brings up the R4/R5 stuff again. I showed her pics of R1 though R9, and then she says in ANH, Luke says “Uncle Owen, R4 has a bad motivator.” I tell her he actually erroneously calls R5-D4 a R2 unit, and she cries again. I asked what was wrong and she goes “we were both WRONG!” I asked how was I wrong, and she replies “NO. BOTH. OF. US. Me AND Luke.” LOL

We watched the Jawa Sale scene from ANH, and she told me several times that the R1 droid was beautiful. She also called Uncle Owen every name in the book, and said Aunt Beru has a “gigantic small happy heart.”
WOW- I had to read this like 4 times to get to the end. I am dying. My favs:
I thought so
Your the drunk one
We bought him at walmart
Justin long reference

And my absolute favorite : “me and Luke”. I was crying too ( from laughing so hard) My abs hurt.

Very much looking forward to next week!!

Edit: I feel sorta bad encouraging this but Jodo i hope yall are having fun.

The 5 min conversation about droid designation and being wrong for 30 years and both being wrong( not you and her but her and Luke) I can’t even….. man this was good and I needed the laugh

THANK YOU

The ESB hero was the one used in the extra scenes in Jabba's palace. It now has a gnarly crack in it on the left side near the corner of the visor that was sloppily epoxied. I think the RoTJ helmet is the one used in the new docking bay scene in ANH though (and his left shoulder bell is missing the mythosaur).
That rocked me. I thought everything on the SE suit was re-used ROTJ, plus a few extra bits of tubing to the gauntlets.

As for why PP3 wasn't used, I'm not sure. The funny thing is, PP3 does still exist and as I recall it was mistakenly used by Master Replicas as the base for their ESB helmet years ago. It really is nearly identical although I'm not sure it has the "wavy brow" of the ESB hero.
Not so much "they used" as "Lucasfilm sent, and refused to believe they'd sent the wrong one when told so".

Haha! You also hear Anakin’s friend “Kitster” say it in TPM. That was the first and until recently only time it was said, I think.

Incidentally, I remember one of the goofier theories I’ve heard was that Moff Gideon was actually Kitster all grown up. Lol! To be fair, we haven’t heard Gideon’s full name. Kitster Gideon? Lol! I do think Kitster has a last name in canon and it’s not Gideon though…

That would explain why he's so pissed off.. That Anakin was a real pain in the Arse!

Here is a follow up. I hope his theory is correct. It would make stuff make a lot more sense, and while not fixing it, make the series better.

RafalFett, thanks for filling in my fuzzy details. Now I'm even more wildly curious why they sent the PP2 helmet to Kenner for photographing instead of one of the Johnston buckets.

The Pre-Pro #1 v1 was the original canvas for the Kenner rocket firing figurine, but the Pre-Pro #2 was sent for the photo shoot and used one of the images on the packaging:

I hadn't realized the "PP3" was pretty much what was intended for Empire until the last minute. And, if the Johnston helmet and green vambraces and rocketpack were deliberate choices for Empire, then why the hell the different articles for Jedi?

I don't know if the Pre-Pro #3 was intended to be used in ESB, but it was one of the prototypes; maybe it was a back-up for the ESB hero:

As for the ROTJ changes, we know that they cast the ESB helmet to do at least 2 stunt helmets, but also cast some armors for the same reason. The helmet was already damaged post ESB or damaged during the stunt cast, because the stunt helmets have the left temple/dome crack. This might be the reason that they didn't used the ESB helmet and for some reason the Promo #1 was used, thus became the ROTJ helmet. Most of the ESB era armors were repainted to a new, unified color scheme (the ESB era was of a scavenged parts concept):

Would you be willing to add a quick version of your revised nomenclature and ordering of the various iterations? It's at least marginally on-topic, as the history of Boba is something I feel is tremendously lacking in the minds of the people making the present of Boba...

A lot of informative information here..especially for someone like me who's just started down the road of building my own Helmet (using your templates of course ;) )

This is a great primer for anyone interested in Boba Fett history! I've definitely forgotten a lot over the years!

All the detail changes are fun to follow. I always preferred the brick red gauntlets though I also liked the yellow gauntlet since it is unique and never seen on screen. Definitely gave the suit more of a piecemeal look. The green ESB gauntlets were more uniform but also less interesting visually, imo. I also preferred the weathered, very 70s-ish retro color scheme of the red/blue/yellow jetback vs just the green.

Anyway, I had personally suspected the ESB helmet was damaged early on and it appears that was indeed the case. Could very well be why they didn't bother to use it on screen for RoTJ and just used one of the promo helmets.

Wicked interesting.. is the damage visible in any scenes in ESB?

My only issue is the bubble on the droid compartment for a passenger makes it look dorky.

My question, though, would be how do you capture bounties and store guns, etc, on something like that.
When not in use for Grogu (spoiler? :D ) he can put a head inside the bubble to make the journey more pleasant for his bounty. Some sightseeing along the way... Erh, well, sort of... It would surely freak out Lil'Greedo!
