The Book of Boba Fett

I had resisted buying a Mando helmet for the first two seasons- "I don't need another helmet, just going to focus on OT stuff right now..." Then my wife and I are sitting there on Wednesday, drinking a beer and watching the episode, thinking "This is amazing!". Annnd the Black Series helmet will be at my front door tomorrow- darn lack of willpower...

Yes, I was following eFX Mandalorian Helmet Season 2 thread and so many people were disappointed with the dark coloring that I was scared off as well. A lot more enthusiasm for the Bobamaker helmet though. I just don't have much familiarity with that maker.
There's always the option of buying one of the lineage helmets and having it repainted correctly but I'd hate to go through the trouble and expense. I also would rather not give eFX any more money after the scout helmet debacle that remains unresolved nearly 8 years later.

Bobamaker is UK-based and has been in the Boba Fett helmet scene for a long time. I've never bought any of his offerings and don't know anything about his Mando helmet though. I notice it's not even listed on his site so he may not be offering them now.

I would put prop people at the table…

RafalFett, thanks for filling in my fuzzy details. Now I'm even more wildly curious why they sent the PP2 helmet to Kenner for photographing instead of one of the Johnston buckets. I hadn't realized the "PP3" was pretty much what was intended for Empire until the last minute. And, if the Johnston helmet and green vambraces and rocketpack were deliberate choices for Empire, then why the hell the different articles for Jedi?

Would you be willing to add a quick version of your revised nomenclature and ordering of the various iterations? It's at least marginally on-topic, as the history of Boba is something I feel is tremendously lacking in the minds of the people making the present of Boba...

I haven't followed this stuff in a long time but as I recall, no one really knows why the TESB Fett helmet, at the least, was not reused. Personally I wonder if that was around the time the damage to it occurred and they decided to just go with another one for RoTJ. Then the sloppily repaired ESB helmet resurfaces 15 years later for the SE. Maybe they figured it was "good enough" for the extra scenes?

I sorely wish Joe Johnston had been involved with this new show. At least let him direct a few episodes! He's literally "the father of Boba Fett" and has decades of directing experience. That he's not involved in a project involving Boba Fett seems ridiculous to me.

I think I missed something... I know one of Sandy's helmets was badly damaged, but I don't remember anything about either of Joe's. On top of that, I thought it was the ROTJ helmet in the Special Editions. And on top of that, even if the ESB Hero was damaged, Joe's other helmet was nearly identical, and would easily have passed better than the one they did use in Jedi...

I agree with this so hard it's not even funny. Especially after the Rocketeer nod in Mandalorian, it seems criminal to not include him.

The ESB hero was the one used in the extra scenes in Jabba's palace. It now has a gnarly crack in it on the left side near the corner of the visor that was sloppily epoxied. I think the RoTJ helmet is the one used in the new docking bay scene in ANH though (and his left shoulder bell is missing the mythosaur). In fan parlance, the combination of ROTJ costume and repaired ESB hero helmet is known as the RoTJ-SE. As for why PP3 wasn't used, I'm not sure. The funny thing is, PP3 does still exist and as I recall it was mistakenly used by Master Replicas as the base for their ESB helmet years ago. It really is nearly identical although I'm not sure it has the "wavy brow" of the ESB hero.

EDIT: As for Johnston, best case scenario now is they give Rodriguez the boot (who should've never been involved in the first place) and give Johnston the reins for season 2, maybe even writing credit with Favreau/Filoni? Fat chance that'll happen though.

Haha! You also hear Anakin’s friend “Kitster” say it in TPM. That was the first and until recently only time it was said, I think.

Incidentally, I remember one of the goofier theories I’ve heard was that Moff Gideon was actually Kitster all grown up. Lol! To be fair, we haven’t heard Gideon’s full name. Kitster Gideon? Lol! I do think Kitster has a last name in canon and it’s not Gideon though…

I heard Kitster is in the galactic prison..

Don Bies has said the the morning of the SE throne room shots someone had a last-minute idea of throwing in Fett, so Don ran to the archive and just grabbed whatever parts he could grab the quickest, and that's why it ended up a mix of costumes.
Never heard that until now! Thank you for sharing!

Interesting! I had a feeling it might be something like that! As long as it was a Fett helmet was close enough for them lol

And you will not regret it! My only sorrow about my Mando helmet is that it’s currently packed waiting to move setting up my man cave in my new house.
