The Amazing Spiderman (Reboot) Costumes and Wardrobe

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

anybody else notice the metal discs in the wrists of the gloves?

i noticed that too
i think maybe they may be going to traditionally and make the webs like his creation instead of conveniently placing web glands in his wrists

and you know this looks more home made i think
like anyone with cosplay experience could make this

as for the belt it looks like there are like red patches on his sides, like maybe there was a belt there or something
i dont know
just leaving off the belt is kind of lame otherwise the blue just kind of melts together

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

My understanding is that in addition to the reason/guess above, Sony decided that it would be significantly cheaper to reboot the franchise with a cast of unknowns and a relatively unknown director. Raimi and Maguire are expensive and if the reboot is as big a turkey as Spider-Man 3 was, at least they'll have lost less dough on it.

Add on the fact, that with the moderate success of Blade, a 'lesser' known title for Marvel, they decided to go forward with larger movies with their more popular names, Spider-Man being the first of them. With still some hesitance on how successful they would be, Marvel made the unfortunate mistake of making a contract with Sony, who I believe already held some rights to Spider-Man, which allowed an open door for a movie of their own. While I'm sure Marvel (now backed by Disney) could prevent the film from going forward if they wanted, the contract also still states that Marvel gets all authority in merchandising, such as figures, games, television and anything else that could give them more revenue.

If anything, Sony is doing all the hard work for them this run around, while they collect. Kinda scummy, if you look at it, but it is buisness. I'm not sure though if the contract only allows one movie, they may have decided to allow more.

BUT! ON TOPIC!

I'm hesitant about the new suit. Granted, I loathed the original suit from the first movies, especially the lack of web-shooters, and making the web pattern stick out, and that silly silver color. I do give it points though, to sticking pretty much completely to the original design.

The new one is just a 'modern' version of the classic design. It has some more advanced elements in comparison to the first suit, but you could rationalize it that he could easily have purchased something to make it look so. The gloves look a little like a mix of Motocross and tactical gloves. Granted, how the heck a dweeby (does anyone else think he look TOO dorky for Peter Parker?) kid in Queens would afford this, is also a good question.

I'm with others vocalizing that the lack of a belt in how its displayed now, seems just weird. Every time I look at it, there doesn't seem to be a definite cut off of the red abdomen section. Like many others as well, I'm waiting for a shot of the mask, and a full shot of him in complete costume.

Not being a fan of the previous movies, I have to say I think it looks much better then the Maguire suits. I like the grittyness of it. But hey, it's the first picture we have. Could turn out either way. But now that someone mentioned basketballs, that's all I can think of when I look at the design :lol.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

a picture I saw on a blogging site I go on. Someone photoshopped a mask and put the belt back there.

The more I look at the regular pic, the more I think his belt was ripped off. You def. see evidence of something that was, but no longer, there.

And the above suit looks pretty cool to me.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I dunno... as a non-Spiderman fan, I actually REALLY like this costume design. The times they are a-changin' and these new modern and realistic looking costumes are totally interesting me in the movies. They'll still have all the tricks and powers, they'll just look like they're doing it all in something more appropriate than spandex. I feel like the old costume, though more faithful to the original design was just too ... cartoony. Which is great, I guess for die-hards who want it as original as possible but the subtlety of the design on this one makes it look more like superhero armor and less like a costume.

I personally think it's a pretty good thing for me to think that...I mean, I REALLY don't like Spiderman so the fact that I'm intrigued by this ( and the new Captain America ) makes me think that the audience range is going to be a lot more broad than just the comic book/tv show fan demographic.

Thumbs up from me!

And on an aesthetic level, I'm totally digging the textures. Totally looking forward to seeing the mask and people attempt this one!

Agreed on all of these points. I'm not a comic or graphic novel person at all, but I enjoy the movies that come from those. (Except Spiderman 3, that was just pants :lol)

But as a non die-hard-Spidey-fan, I'm loving the new suit. Time to let the spandex retreat quietly into the distance :D

Maybe that's why he's walking. He ran out of web fluid in his shooters and lost the belt with replacement fluid in a battle.

I was thinking along the same lines. I assumed the belt was torn off due to the appearance of damage around that area. And since it's been pointed out that he might have mechanical webshooters, his belt is where he carried spare cartridges in the comics, so it might make sense from a story point of view why there's no belt in that shot.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

That all being said... I'd like to point that how funny it is that we are whinning on details like " how this wiz kid made his suit " ( and later on, " how did he built his webshooters " ) where this movie is about a guy who gets bitten by a radioactive spider, and start getting athletic agility, lifting 10-tons weights and crawl on walls... Not to mention something tingling. :D

So, big lies are more believable than small ones ? ;p

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

i just want to see how his gigantic head looks in the mask

hahahaha....I'm glad I'm not the only one curious about that. I think his hair just makes it look bigger than it should. Granted, I too have a ginormous head and a lot of people keep asking if I use a face shell for my suit.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

It's just hair, it can be flattened a lot. I think the end result will be close to the picture posted earlier by ironspidey. :)

Too bad about the belt, but I don't think it's a part of this suit actually. Being ripped off ? Isn't that a bit too much ? :)

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I dont know how i feel about the new design.
i knew that Sony would probably channge up the design.

....maybe we will see some sort of red utility belt in the movie. ?!?

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

His belt could be cgi in that scene, so its not on his costume in this still? Or it just goes all the way around his suit, and is a separate piece, so it wasn't ripped off. Either way, i think it looks pretty good so far.

This is a publicity shot, not a screen grab. It doesn't make sense for the belt to "be CGI in that scene" when this was taken with a still camera specifically for the purpose of being released as a standalone image.

He may still have a belt that they're just keeping off of him for this shot to try to build the hype and speculation.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I recall back during the first Raimi / Maguire Spider-man films, they took a similar approached and released some early images of the Spidey costume to gauge feedback. Perhaps they are "holding back" on some details and may still revise them (belt / mask?)?

I don't know if they have already started filming full action sequences in full costume yet.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

the pic with the photoshopped belt makes the design look a lot better.. still im not at all sure about this. ive loved spidey since i was 4 years old and thats 38 years ago, the suit is iconic and needs to be the classic shape imho, to me this is one suit that spandex just works... its purely to conceal identity and to allow for the gymnastic type movement of the character nothing more. dont mind the texture so much as the webbing... thats just wrong.
we''ll see though , wont stop me seeing the movie i'm a die hard spidey fan. just hope they go with either romita snr type eyes or the awsome eyes in brads ben rily type suit. brad that is awsome incarnate, how much does one of those suits go for ?

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I think what a lot of people preaching the "simple spandex would work" chorus, is that spandex would look NOTHING like the comics make it look like. Spandex tends to soften muscle details, whereas the comics show it emphasizing it. You will NEVER get the highlights and light kicks off a costume in the real world like you do in the comics. That's why they have to try to interpret it, to give the same idea of "lean muscle" or "gritty realism" that a comic can achieve with a few ink strokes. (ink strokes that vary from panel to panel no less)

For all those who want something that's just straight spandex, something that a high school teenager could actually construct from scratch, himself, here you go:

I don't know about you, but I would promptly vomit in my mouth if that ever made it onto screen.

...your mileage may vary.

I still think they may try to say that the suit is a found item that Peter modified.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I don't know why people always moan that "a teenager could not make that", I read Spiderman comics as a youngster and he was a top science student, and made his own webshooters (which it appears will be returning for the reboot). I'm pretty sure someone of his intellect could make a costume from scratch or even a modified wetsuit or something, I bet he knows how to do the latex stuff etc (maybe the movie will show him getting patterns and ideas from The RPF...)
