Nope! I like it. I actually really like the strong deviations from the previous suit. The fact of the matter is that no matter how much they change it, it
is still iconic. It could just be red and blue and people would still know what it is. There's nothing wrong with a bit artistic deviation. I think it just look more badass now ( really, no emphasis on the 'ass' ) instead of spandex. The best thing about the suit is that there will be minimal to none of
this.
... which we already know from the slash marks ( sans actual injury ) on new-Spidey's chest.
Sorry, but I would not fight supervillains in puff-painted leotard. And any other 'hero' who attempts to ( and does not have super armor/regenerating type skin ) bugs me as much as girls running into a dead end from axe murderers in horror movies.
100pts for new Spidey!
I think another great aspect of the new suit is that in being actually useful and having the appearance of such, it gives the film an aspect of realism that wasn't there before. I get it, comic lovers love the original design, but it's dated and nowadays can easily be seen as campy. Minimizing the camp-factor, I feel, will maximize the interest among non-fans. And old fans will probably still see it anyways. They're doing the same thing with Thor and Captain America, they've got a much more organic and real-world-fighting look as opposed to the comic book designs.
I think the evolution of design for the modern superhero movies is a must to keep them relevant to more than just a niche audience. I love fantasy and sci fi movies and would hate to see the too-good-for-that people of this generation missing out on such films because it 'looks like a kid movie'. Was there this much kerfuffle when Batman outgrew his spandex? ( aside from the nipple suit... and hey, speaking of which...with that in mind, it could always be worse for Spidey. Haha )
I may be WAY out in left field here, but from the images and the whole idea of them rebooting the franchise, I'm feeling they're trying to go more Dark Knight style with this one. And I have absolutely no problem with spinning this story into a slightly darker and more mature take.
At the very WORST, it's a breath of new life into a fan-loved character movie franchise that had previously ended it's own life via disco. :lol
edit: Just another thought... could the fact that that comic picture surfaced amidst all the controversy in reference to the new suit possibly be ( very obviously ) hinting to the fact that because this
reboot spends more time on the very early
start of Spidey ( before MJ and apparently he doesn't even work for the paper yet? ) that this will be the
FIRST suit shown in the series of films ( 'cause we all know there'll be more )? As it then should be, right? Would that then be acceptable to the purists? I mean, I know you have to stare at Peter's 'first attempt' suit more than you'd like, but is it redeemed by the fact that they're delving into the story in much more detail and time?
