Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

i think the webbing's just more pronounced there. but looking at the boot portion made me realise this in this picture:

can you see the slight shaddow at the top of the boot? i think that spidey will have actual boots in this movie, and on closer inspection of other photos< i think there may be a zipper on the inside of the boot leg.

I agree, it does appear to be a separate piece from the costume itself. They look thicker and more durable as opposed to the rest of the suit.

One thing I hope they do in this movie is to maintain one style of suit. What I mean by this is not saying I only want one costume, because I would welcome a change by the end of the film, etc., but one version of the way it separates. In the other movies, where the neck and mask separated would change scene to scene, like at the parade in SM1 where the top of the suit was extremely low around Tobey's neck, but in other scenes, the collar went about halfway up his neck.

So for realism's sake, I would like to see the collar always being cut off in one place, the boots/gloves always being detachable pieces, etc. I realize sometimes certain scenes may need a one piece version for filming, but other than that, I'd appreciate consistency.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I'm looking at those pictures of the stunt man in the suit, and the more I look at them, the more I'm sure that those silver straps are attached to the velcro pads on the bottom of the boots. I think that the straps are what's holdng the velcro onto the boots.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I feel like I'm talking to thin air in here...

Why would they include silver straps on a suit of that quality, if they weren't meant to be there?

I think what's being said is that it does look like they're possibly there attached to and to hold the velcro/leather soles in place, not attached to the suit itself. But if that is the case, whether they're red or silver or purple or aquamarine, they'd just be edited out later anyways. I also feel like that might be the case... if the silver were intended to be there as a design choice I feel like there should be a bit more throughout the suit somewhere to tie it together. They stand out like a sore... toe. XD

Guess we'll find out when there are some official pics!

Not at all, I hear you ;)

As far as my stance on the matter, it's tough to decide. I agree on some of your points, they do seem to be a part of the suit, I definitely don't think they are meant to be ankle supports or anything, but they could be attached to the boots for some purpose. I agree with the post above, they don't need to be the same color as the suit to be stunt devices as they would just be removed digitally anyway. They just don't go with anything else on the suit, so I'm hoping they aren't in the finished product, but who knows.

To me, it's something that's not worth arguing about until we see some finished footage for solid proof.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I agree with Tsuyosa on the silver on the boots. It looks too refined and stylized to be solely (no pun intended) a functional piece for particular shots. And if I recall correctly, they're in every shot. When he's sticking to the side of the truck; silver. When he's running through the streets; silver; etc. If they were some sort of support or served some sort of function and was intended to be digitized out, we probably wouldn't see them when he's running AND when he's sticking to wall.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see it on the silver screen to find out for sure, though.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I still think this movie is a train wreck.

The costume still looks like a painted basketball to me.

And if you look at this shot,

It looks like spiderman is wearing this type of shoe.

I don't know what these are called but cute chicks wear them.
So Peter Parker is not only looking like a hipster douschebag, he is also a crossdresser.

When you make him a hipster of 2011, you lock the film into 2011, which makes it NOT-Timeless.

Who is the villain supposed to be? If they pick Jason Schwartzman I am going to puke my guts out.

"flats"...
Have been worn by:
Trampoline, acrobatic, and gymnastic performers... on the Olympic level
LONG before Hipsters were ever on the scene.

So yes, it would make sense that he's wearing that kind of shoe.

As a former gymnast, these really save your feet in floor routines, vault, and trampoline exercises... so to me it makes sense that Spiderman, as one of the most acrobatic superheros, would wear them.

But, if you still feel like they only look like a contemporary female shoe...

I wasn't saying the shoe makes him look like a hipster, just THE CHARACTER looks like a hipster.

And yeah I know about guys wearing those shoes for gymnastics and such, but a lot of my lady friends wear those shoes so they are the first thing I think of when I see those pictures.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

On an aside...
I think I just found the base shoe....
I'm going to order some to confirm:

i agree with you here. they look way to heavily thought out and designed to be removed in post production. looking at the pictures where his legs are splayed and you can see the underside pretty much confirms they are there for a reason. and anyway, if they were gonna be edited out, why not have them in the blue or green screen colour?

i also agree that this type of sporty, athletic running shoe is the type of shoe spiderman would choose. so i'm with you on this one, Tsuyosa...i'm pretty sure they're here to stay.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I wonder if they are going to try and explain this costume through the storyline. Perhaps Peter sees a "high tech performance Nike" running / athletics suit. Modifies it with paint etc (I know its a leap, but no bigger than Maguire jumping from a painted sweatshirt to brick pattern printed spandex with raised rubber webbing), adds some performance specialty shoes and glues on some Oakley style sunglass lenses? I noticed that the eyes are smaller and more sunglass shaped than before.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I can only hope that this suit is a lead up into the real suit. Maybe this one gets messed up and he has to make a new one and then the traditional suit comes into play. Makes this one a kid's WIP.

But I doubt it.

I was hoping for this too...have faith

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

hopefully the through the magic of disney the suit is cgi'd pretty

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I don't think the lighting on these new pics show the suit off very well. When I first saw the shot in the alleyway I was pretty impressed but in bright light, not so much.. As far the silver shoes, practical for athletes or not spray em red already!! Let's hope those eyes get the cgi treatment too...

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I'm convinced the silver on the boots is part of the design for this costume as well. For that matter, I'm still skeptical about this being the only version of the costume we'll see in the movie. It's just too much like that wrestling costume in that limited series... It makes me think we'll see a more classic design at some point in the movie even if it's just for 30 seconds at the end of the movie. Just speculation on my part but from all we've seen so far, that just seems to me where they're going with this.

Re: Spiderman Reboot Costumes and Wardrobe

I also think the silver on the shoes is part of the design. I think they tried to tie it in with the silver color of the web shooters. I don't love the new design but I don't hate it. We'll see how the movie is and go from there.
