The 12th Doctor's New Sonic Screwdriver

Wow, looks great! And it has all 4 of the light functions too. It will be interesting to compare to the reference photos we have of the original.

Edit: The only thing that jumps out at me that might need an adjustment is the very tip of the light-up section. It appears the toy version has a shorter length on the pyramidal section, and seems slightly wider at the very tip.

Just ordered from bbcdoctorwhoshop.com! Looks like they did a good job hiding any copyright or battery comparement stuff.

One odd thing is that bottom section with the raised aluminum rails -- on the prop, one of the rails lines up with the power switch, but on the toy it's offset by 45 degrees. Perhaps that section moves?

I see that but in other pics of this toy I saw on facebook it lines up rather than being offset so yeah maybe it turns or maybe it just turned there but that is where it releases for the battery compartment? On the other 12 sonic the top part turns and pulls away...not sure. Of course it could be off the other version of the sonic had the copper sections offset rather than lined up with the button like on the prop.

Just grabbed one of these! Thanks for the heads up!
I used the code NEWSHOP20 for 20% off.

Here's a video that talks about the toy's design process

An interesting thing they mention is that the original prop has a 5 position switch versus the toy's 2 momentary switches

I'm not sure if this Rubbertoe video has been posted yet:

I can't claim to have any actual input on the final design, but I find it really crazy that less than a year ago, several of us were chucking out references and ideas for the design of this, and now it exists as a toy being sold all over the world. There's a weird kind of permanence to that.

I had the wonderful opportunity to spend a little time with Nick R at Gallifrey One this year and he snuck his personal 12 SS Prop in with him. It is an amazing piece to see in person. I'm hopeful that my efforts to improve my financial situation give me the opportunity to patronize him but, until then, I'll be very happy to have the toy to play with. It is a really cool design.

I hear that. I'm really impressed with the result of the toy, I did not expect all four sound and color settings to be included, well done CO! It also looks like they did a good job hiding the seams and legal garb.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a little disappointed they didn't come across my build for their video on the CO toy...would have been cool to get a shoutout there :)

I pretty much agree with everything in votesaxon07's review. I'm not a huge fan of the prop but it looks like character options recreated it really well, and in my opinion it's their most accurate sonic they've done

Just got my order from BBCDoctorWhoShop. Its worth noting the US Underground Toys release doesnt have the batteries pre-installed, and there is a copyright text sticker on the flat edge, but its easy to peel off. Mine has a few paint scuffs and imperfections, but overall its really nice. The button/dial is super loose though, rattles around if you shake it.

Its nice that 3 of the hex screws around the top half are real, not just molded on.

Mine arrived today too - what a well done toy! It looks really close to screencaps and Rubbertoe reference overall, apart from the slightly blunted tip. The sliding part of the switch might be a tad large? That feels like nitpicking on a $30 toy.

It's a nice match to the metal props, and on second look, when compared to the great photos of the replicas on the Rubbertoe Replicas site, the two above points look like less of an issue on the toy. I wonder if the prop in the Capaldi interview and Hell Bent console shot was not the final form? Was that ever mentioned? The tip on the interview prop is pointier than the Rubbertoe, though camera distortion is likely playing a part:

It kind of looks like the Hell Bent shot was vertically stretched:

Sound on the toy is clear and loud, and the lights are bright!

Here are a couple of comparison pics to two fan models. The painted print is mracole's, and the unpainted (never found time to finish it, doh) is Shipbrook's:
