TDK: Harvey Dent/Two Face's Coin

I'm going to go see it again myself, but I'd welcome anyone's feedback as to which of these look correct. I think it's the first one.

Dopey me . . . I just spent 2 full minutes comparing the fronts and couldn't find a difference. DOH!!!

Stylistically, I would think that the first one is correct, but I'd be interested to see what was actually shown on screen.

Well just came back from the antique store - got me 2 of these bad boys (they actually had a lot)... Now the question is do I try to put these together myself or let someone else...

I just watched the scene with the positioning of the "heads" in mind - paulv70 - you're right, its the first one you listed. Rachel is holding the coin with the head up straight, then flips it vertically, and we see another head in the same position... if that made sense...

So the head on the backside is inverted as in the first picture?

yes - one side is upside-down from the other... at least in the specific scene I took note of

Are you flipping the coin horizontally or vertically? Either could be correct (or incorrect) depending. Normal coinage will have the obverse and reverse rotated 180 degrees with respect to each other.

In the movie, Rachel flips it on its horizontal x-axis (she tips the top of the coin backwards). When she does, the head that she flips to is upright...

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for them?

A quick check on ebay shows that they tend to run in the $20.00 range (give or take a few), which jives with what I remember paying for mine a couple of years ago.

yep, I payed about 20 for mine, it is on its way as we speak, and then i will begin making the two headed version out of metal. The materials are getting kinda pricey, so i will probably offer a few here or on ebay to offset the cost.

I've run into one problem though. A few hours ago I went to see the movie again with a group of friends. Our sole intention was to catch every scene with the coin, and record every detail accurately. I printed out pictures of an enlarged peace dollar for everyone and handed out sharpies to map the scratches on the dark side of the coin......we all came to the same realization....
1. There are very few clear shots of the "bad" side of the coin, it always flashed for a split second, out of focus, or covered by Dent's thumb (or batman's in the first scene it is shown)
2. There are at least 2 (most probably 3) different damaged coins in the film.
One where batman picks it up and it is severely scratched, the scratches go diagonally across the coin and are deepest at the edges of the coin and get slightly shallower near the center so you can see the face. Another shot shows the coin almost completely black with a few defined scratches, the largest going through the neck of the head on the coin. And finally, in the final scenes the coin shows no serious gashes or scrapes, just an overall black charred look (also noticed a smaller continuity issue where dent is holding the good side of the coin out, and then when they cut back to him it is the bad side)

So, I'm going to design my coin to the more scratched up (and in my opinion, cooler) version.

If anyone has any way of getting higher res pics or caps of the film please let us know.......I think the times that the coin is the clearest is when batman pics it up and when dent pics it up off the hospital tray.

Also, on a side not, i'm kinda new to this forum. If I am going to make a few extra coins to sell would the interest thread go here or the junkyard?

Thanks!

Yeah - an interest thread would go in the junkyard...

As far as which version to make and hi res pics, I'll probably just keep mine a "pristine" 2 headed coin until we getting better pics (probably not until the DVD is out...).

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but if that coin is legal tender making ANY copies of it is a federal felony in the United States, punishable by up to 15 years in Prison, a heavy fine and restitution payments.

Then how come the artisans who make trick coins for magicians arent prosecuted and allowed to sell their wares openly on eBay? This is the same thing.

You go ahead and make counterfeit coins, when the Secret Service is up your a-- don't say I didn't warn you.

Edit:
I'm just saying, know the risk and weigh it against the reward. Is a shiny new toy worth the risk of 15 years in the can?

Well since you werent interested in actually answering my previous question, the what about the DC Direct version of this coin? I'm assuming you read the first few posts of this topic were it was mentioned that they are also releasing one. Why arent they being prosecuted?

Oh and how many unlicensed props do you have in your collection? You DO know what the penalties are for copyright infringement, right? I'm just saying. :rolleyes

Why don't you ask the manufacturer?
I'm simply letting you know the risk, now if you want to go produce counterfeit money, it's on you.

The issue of copyright infringement is a red herring.
kthxbye
