Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here

A personal trainer told me once. When u start. Do one perfect day in the week. A day where u eat good. Where i look not to do bad habit. Go for a walk or some workout. Or during work try to stand or walk around every now and then.
With the time u will see that u feel much better on those days and u will start to change the other days automatically.
It was his way to kill the little devil on his shoulder ^^

All i can say is you have to move. Exercises or workout.
When you just started go easy. There r alot of exercises for beginners. Like i started with pushups on te knees before i started to do normal ones.
It is not good to do too much. It can hurt u :) i know that. Lol.

And try to drink water and tea. Cause juices have more kcal and more sugar than coke. Its fruit sugar but still sugar ^^

Im sorry i cant say more about diets.

Thanks for the tips. I forgot to add to the last post. I also dont drink fruit juices after about 5 days in and I learned their high sugar. I do have the occasional ocean spray light cranberry juice In the morning. Not every day. But was under impression it was healthy to have a little low cal cranberry to move things along. Could easily drop it if im honest.

Out of interest. Whats peoples opinions on tech for dieting? Been thinking of a calorie counter. Phone app isnt quite accurate from what ive read. or smart wristwear for accurate calorie requirements and loss. I guess ill look further into it.

There's a really good iPhone app I've been using. It's called My Fitness Pal. You might have already heard of it tho :)
It can scan barcodes of products - But if I still feel it's inaccurate, I just double check with a few more sources online and add calories manually.
Pretty convenient :D

Im on! It is great isnt it. I do see sometimes the info isnt fully there. But if you search you usually get more options that may be more accurate. Whats funny is my Fiancé asked why I was putting in my food on the one really bad day I had. My answer was that if I dont lose much. When I look back I can see why. I imagine some people do this then dont understand.

Feel free to add me if your into that looking at others progress thing. Jmorgangrice is my username.
I am on android so not sure if its cross platform or not.

I probably have some type of tendinitis in my knee, caused from leg workouts , heavy squats , jump rope, snow skiing , football and mickael jackson style dancing. I know it's not a torn acl cause it slowly came on. But now I can't really work out legs. I was doing a 3 day full body wkout now I'm going to do alot of body weight workouts. I got a pull up bar, going to get a weighted vest so I can do weighted dips, pull ups/ push-ups. Maybe get two sets of dumb bells. Keep it simple

My knees are better since i put my whole body weight only on the heels of my feet. Also i go more back woth my butt than down in my knees. Means my knees never stick more outfront than my toes.
That brings less balast on the knees.
My knees are very good sonce i do that.
Also i dont do anything where i have to jump :)

-update- i mean when i do squads and stuff :D

I need to maybe go to the doc. It doesn't really hurt, I can bend and straighten but it feels weak. It was really sore at first. I wear a small knee brace that let's me bend and I walk fine. It's been this way since January actually it was worse in January. Also I'm 38. So hell

Im no profesionall and cant give advice in that case.
I do a bunch of exercises of a video in yt.
20 exercises for legs from a guy named mike chang. They work good for me.

A friend of mine had the same as u. At least it sounds like. And hos doc said he trains his leg muscles too less and there is too much tense on the knees.

But the best is to go to s doc and have a check up before damaging anything :)

Go talk to an orthopedist. Most knee injuries come from doing leg movements wrong. Improper squats, deads, etc. If you're squatting correctly, it actually IMPROVES knee injuries. Just don't go heavy. Also, just because it came on slowly doesn't mean it's not an ACL tear. Did it pop before the pain started? Or was it just BOOM there like a small fire?

Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here

Both my knees used to pop all the time. My left knee started hurting a little 2 years ago from doing heavy leg extensions. So I stopped and after awhile it went away, I started legs again last summer doing dead lifts and shoulder squats and it didnt hurt. Then laid of off working out for a few months. Then in January I had a ski trip so I decided to do cardio to get ready which involved jump roping. It started hurting again from jump roping but not to bad. Then I went skiing and the weekend after I did jump rope, played football and danced. By Sunday it was really sore. But it hasn't been as sore as that Sunday but it still gets sore sometimes

I'm just a guy, but at 35 I also have knee pain. Two things help: Progressively heavier squats with PROPER FORM and stretching. Squatting is pretty straightforward and there are a ton of resources on how to squat properly. Mark Rippetoe, Stronglifts' Mehdi, and Youtube's Elliot Hulse being three that come to mind. Notice how you yourself wrote how you didn't have knee pain while doing deadlifts and shoulder squats...

Stretching is a little less obvious but If your calf muscles are too tight it pulls on your knees, if your hamstrings are too tight it pulls on your knees, etc. Lack of stretching also adds to general posture problems which contribute to knee pain. You might also consider regular visits to a massage therapist and a foam roller.

Unfortunately us 30+ age guys need to make stretching and flexibility an increasing part of our physical training routine -- something we could take for granted in prior years.

Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here

Ive had some knee pop in my left knee, but I have found stretching, Glucosamine, and a multi vitamin have helped greatly reduce most joint noise.

My current Spidey work out is as follows.

30 mins of cardio pre workout

1 Set of 15 hammer curls 35lbs
1 set of 40 wide pushups
1 set of 15 center chin ups
1 set of 30 shoulder shrugs 35lbs
1 set of 20 diamond pushups
1 set of 15 wide chin ups
1 set of 80 sit ups
1 set of 15 curls 35lbs
1 set of 20 squats
1 set of 20 weighted squats 35lbs
1 set of 20 waist push ups
1 set of 20 planks on the Swedish ball
1 set of "21's" with the 45lb weight bar

Repeat x3 and have exhausted arms and core XD

I haven't been in this thread from the beginning and I'm not gonna read 48 pages, so sorry if I get anything wrong about this thread or repeat anything.

It appears that from what I read on the first few pages and here that it's mostly about people trying to lose weight. I'm on the other side of the spectrum. I was a scrawny 150 pounds, but now I'm a scrawny 175 pounds. (photo only shows progress from 160, but I did start at 150).

Admittedly, the pics do not show the 25 pound difference very well, but I hope you can see it somewhat.

before and after 150 175.png

And here is that body in my new Superior suit. I wouldn't say I look perfect for the Spidey suit, but I'm thinking I did pretty well on the bulk.

I am not going to type out everything I've been doing unless someone asks for it. I am gonna feel pretty stupid if I think that this is great and try to give tips, then yall tell me it's actually meh.

It's all about consistent hard work and eating healthy. After that all you can do is get a muscle suit to help add some definition and veins that shouldn't really show under Lycra. Haha.

Knee pain can come from a number of reasons - if you're getting that bit "older" pffft mid-30s is still young; least it better be cause i'm hoping this decade will be as good as my 20s lol! With knees it can be a case of supportive ligaments; bone pain or your meniscus when looking at the major causes - the pain you are talking about would seem to indicate the pain is more inside the knee and due to some wear potentially due to early osteoarthritis; proper knee r/v would be good to indicate when the pain occurs and what could be causing this - potentially you had a twisting injury w/ ur skiing

Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here

This thread is motivating me to get back on the P90X3! Im 6'4 238 lbs and that's not muscle we're talking about here. I get married in 1 month and have had a goal to lose my gut and upper torso fat for the big day and the summer. P90x worked for me a few years ago, but with back injuries, It has gotten harder. I know what needs to be done, just the motivation is lacking at times or the back is hurting. You guys are helping me get motivated again. I like all the food and workout tips you have posted. I am also gonna wear a spidey costume shirt under my tux, for some pics with my soon to be wife "she's the MJ to my Spiderman". So I am gonna get busy in the garage AKA the home gym and try to meet my goal. Someone mentioned running. I think Ill try that too. Good luck with all of your work outs. Ill keep checking out this thread.

Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here

Just seeing the posts about knee injuries, they happen to everyone, mine has been giving me guff since I was 21 and I am now 24, so it's not just 30's and up, they can happen to anyone so just remember proper form and remembering to take care not to cause permanent damage.

Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here

Hey guys I'm new to the forum and making any costumes, but found this awesome thread. I have been thinking about this for a long time and started dieting pretty recently. Hoping to get down to about 170 pounds by August or Sept..about 15-20 pound loss for me. I think costuming is a good motivation for me to lose weight and get healthier. And after fitting into a costume I spent so much time on I'm sure I'll want to keep that fitness level so I can reuse it haha.

I've got you beat, sadly. 6'1-130 lbs.

50Days_zpsf26d55dc.png

That was 50 days into my workout program.

I've mostly been focusing on just mastering my ability to control my own body for now, so I can do the more acrobatic stuff like Spidey. I've been working on planches and handstands.

Holy crap, guys. Eat some damn sweet potatoes! Lol jk. No, really. Eat them. A lot. ;)

I keep seeing a lot of people concentrating more on HOW MUCH they weigh as opposed to HOW THEY LOOK at their weight. The scale doesn't mean crap.
