T2 Donut head build thread

Re: T2 Donut head

Thanks, yes they sure are alot more blue. I tried to find even older pics but i couldn't find any with enough resolution to be worth a darn. These are from publicity shots of season 8 of the X-Files. This should be good enough for the eye guys to make something pretty close. None of Tech's eyes look like this so they are going to have to be custom. Especially with that dot in it.

Re: T2 Donut head

Tech-Optics are back up and running after the holiday season and an expansion. According to Jim, single eyes can be ordered - 28mm Half Dome with 11.3mm Iris will cost $24.00 per eye (add $10.00 for an exact color match). With veining would be more. Just use their contact form on the website to request custom eyes. :thumbsup Will be getting in my order when my bust has had the Custom fees paid and I can double check that 28mm will be the right size.

Re: T2 Donut head

Hey Howlrunner, now that you have the bust any luck checking out eye dimensions? I want to order them soon and want to make sure i get the right size. I have no eyes here other than the ones in my cranium and I can't seem to figure out a way to remove them without damaging them!

Re: T2 Donut head

Will do, but will have a bit of work to do first. Didn't realise, or more likely I forgot, that the bust was foam filled, so will have to dremel out the base and the foam inside to be able to insert an eye. It's freezing here and I don't really fancy sitting in the snow to dremel it out (too much mess to do indoors).

Re: T2 Donut head

Yikes, do you have a small enough hand to go through his neck? I could never go that side. I plan on cutting hhis cranium under were the wig will be. I am going to use a super thin hobby saw so it can be glued back on. I am aslo considring doing an animatronic eye so i may have to see if Techoptic can do one of their "real human" eyes with the stud on the back.

Re: T2 Donut head

Was wondering how you were going to fit the eye as I didnt rearlise it was foam filled aswell.

Ryan did a fantastic job on this and his customer service was the very best.
Look forward to some updates.

Re: T2 Donut head

Just spent the evening working on this. First, I took your advice and cut a hole (more of a triangle) in the top side of the head instead of going up through the neck. A word of warning, while most of it is fairly easy, the very centre of the top of the head is cast THICK. I had to use a drill to get through it as the whole length of one side of my triangle was about 3cm thick. Managed it in the end though.

Then I used a sharp knife to prise off the resin shell from the foam underneath. Then I used a sharp knife and a spoon to dig into the foam and hollow out part of the inside of the head. Mess everywhere! :lol

Dremelled out the eye and test fitted a Tech Optic 28mm eye with 11.3mm iris that I borrowed from my Arnie bust. A PERFECT fit. :thumbsup Looks better than the real puppet in my opinion (the pic of the T-1000 on the front of Cinefex looks like the puppet's iris is too large and looks a little fake).

Unfortunately no camera at the moment. Will try to take and upload a picture in a day or two. :thumbsup

Re: T2 Donut head

I had posted this at the endobuildersclub and apparently forgot to post it here too. Thanks for the headsup on the eyes.

Well i started out thinking i was going to have a fun little project but it ended up being a long bunch of work! Decided to get the head ready for an eyeball.

I started by cutting a hole at the bottom to see if i could manage to do it from there. The head was filled with foam so there was no way to do it from the bottom.

Next i pretty much drew out with a pencil where the hairline was and then picked a spot in the middle and made a circle about as big as i needed to put my hand through. I figured i would do it ala surgeon and cut at an angle all the way around. No luck. I went as far as the blade would cut and never got through.

So then i just got the saw out. Cut a bunch and still couldn't get through.

DSC01623Medium.jpg

OK, wheres the friggin drill. So i drill stright down and the thing goes at least 3/4" bofore it went through. So out comes the dremel with a drill bit attached and i went all the way around to cut it out. What a pain. Pop it off and it's chock full o foam.

DSC01624Medium.jpg

It took quite awhile to dremel it all out with the drill bit. It is some hard foam. Nothing you are going to pluck with your fingers.

DSC01625Medium.jpg

Finally got through and cleaned it out a much as i felt like today.

DSC01626Medium.jpg

Then dremeled out the eye leaving a lip around it. I then went at an extreme angle and cleaned out as much as i could so the eye would sit as close to the eyelid as possible.

Then took an xacto knife and trimmed pretty close to the lids. I will clean it up more when i have more patience and the eye. Next i'll probably clean up the skull hole and build up the edges a bit on the skull and the skull piece so i can stick the skull piece back in. If i do an animatronic eye i will make it so i can remove it. If not i will glue it back on.

Re: T2 Donut head

Glen, if you order the eyes, any chance of doing a run?

Hey TMG. I will have to see how that will work. Most will only want the one eye and IIRC you wanted both. May be easier for me to give them the pic and they can reference it for anyone needing "Robert Partick eyes" or "T-1000 eyes". I can tell them there will be more people ordering. Or i can look into taking a tally of who wants them and go from there. I am just not equiped financiallly right now for it due to possible loss of job coming in the next month or so.

Re: T2 Donut head

Looks like you had about as much fun as I did! :lol

Anyone got a Blu Ray release of T2? Surely it's possible to take a really good reference pic of his eyes from there? Once I find a REALLY good pic I'll place an order.

Re: T2 Donut head

I have the BR but I didn't see anything that would show the iris detail like the other pic i posted. That pic is cut from a 1500x1970 well lit photo. Might have to wait for the movie to be remastered and released in 4K. haha

Re: T2 Donut head

Dang Glen....you are a brave man indeed, that was some awesome work you did on getting to the eyes....one word decribes what I was thinking, as I scrolled down the pictures....
Oh ****** , he's really doing this ......lol....scary trying to get started ,Im sure.....look forward to seeing more....Guy

Re: T2 Donut head

Oh and yes Howl, it was a bunch of work. Not much fun....well the eye cutting was.

Guy, only thing that worried me is not knowing how thick the neck was. All i could imagine while i was sawing his head was all of a sudden i am holding his decapitated head. The whole time is was thinking about how i would reattach it. Luckily it was pretty sturdy. I WAS supprised at the thickness of the top of the skull on the one side.

Re: T2 Donut head

The first pic you posted they look a bit more green, the second looks pretty much the same as 2000 but the detail i washed out. I am going with the 2000 pic just for the detail it shows. They should be able to make some really nice ones with it.

Re: T2 Donut head

I seen you cutting in that bust, and I thought , the bust isnt the only thing losing his head..at the moment....lol

Re: T2 Donut head

Yeah, I'm using that one too. Placing the order now. :thumbsup

Find out who we should talk to if everyone else wants to order them. Maybe we can give it a name everyone can just order it by, otherwise we will all just send the same picture and they will be wondering what the heck is going on.
