T2 Donut head build thread

I never noticed how the eyeball is all squished to the side before. How weird!

I've been working on my bust for a little while and I'm pretty much done painting it (just really eye and hair section to paint now).

Still got more work to do though.

The shirt is obviously very wrong - it was the only dark blue shirt I have, so whacked it on for the photo. Still trying to track down the correct shirt for a decent price.

The glass eye is just a quick stand in I had on hand - it's too small (26mm, not 28mm), the iris is too large (14mm, not 11.3mm) and it's the wrong colour

The squashed eye still needs to be painted - won't do that until I have the Tech Optics eye so I can match the colours exactly.

Got the Austin name badge, wig and custom eye ordered. Waiting on them arriving.

Also, found this - quite a nice little colour reference pic:

Thanks. :)

Can I ask what paints you are using ? Really nice effect :)

I used mainly Citadel paints (available from Games Workshop stores) - Kislev Flesh, Elf Flesh and Dwarf Flesh. Also used some Humbrol 87 Steel Grey for the (very slight) 5 o'clock shadow and shadowing around the nose and under the eye; some Anitas's acrylic Lilac for under the eye and Dusty Rose for slight highlights.

Basically I did what I did on my Ash painting tutorial, but very slightly different (as I never do two skintone paintjobs the same way as no two people have exactly the same skin): http://www.therpf.com/f62/1-1-evil-dead-ii-ash-bust-156669/

Thanks. :)

Thanks mate. Il take a look at that :)
Did you use alclad for the chrome ?

By the way, your paint work is really top notch. Seen a few of your pieces and they are very well done.

For the chrome I used a Halfords own-brand automotive Chrome spray paint. Had to sand the "donut hole" quite a bit before applying a number of coats to get it nice and smooth.

Wow. I have heard good things about Halfords chrome paint... obviously its very good judging by your pics.
I have just used one of there primers with decent results also.
Look forward to seeing more pics soon.

amazing job howlrunner! those skins tones are excellent. Good to see how well the halfords chrome turned out wouldn't of thought their paint would be much cop!

How durable is the chrome paint. Can you touch it without leaving fingerprints and such?

If you want to seal it I have been told and shown good results with the Future Floor Wax, by misting on the first few sealing layers and then giving it a final wet coat. That should ensure the chrome doesn't react with the clear coat and goes dull. In case you hadn't heard it before. Of course, best to test on something else first.

I heard the alclad clear is a good sealer for chrome paint also (better than future floor polish apparently )

It's not bad for durability. I wouldn't handle it or touch it personally, but I have tried lightly pressing on the chrome on this bust and it doesn't leave any marks. Having said that, you have to use multiple REALLY light coats, otherwise it really does indent - I've used it on a C-3PO kit before and did it a little too thick and that NEVER dried and showed every ridge in fingerprints.

The chrome is a b**ch when it comes to blending skintones into it - any non-water-based blended edges make it go grey and 'orrible. I've never used a sealer on any of my paintjobs, so not worried about chrome reactions.

And thanks for the pics Art - they'll help with the squashed eye shape and they confirm to me that the bust SHOULD have a light 5 o'clock shadow (wasn't sure on that one as Robert Patrick is so clean shaven in the movie. Also shows they used fake eyelashes which I wasn't sure on as they can't really be seen in any other pics.

just reading how it was a pain to cut through the top of the skull on this (and though probably a bit late now!) but and handy tool to have for such jobs is a worx sonicrafter (there's loads of other makes also of the same type of tool). But it does very clean plunge cuts. I've used it on similar projects to this and it's like a hot knife through butter, to remove that section of resin from the skull like you guys did would've literally took less than a minute. Also loads of different 'blade' attachments for it also. Just thought I'd mention it as it might help someone, if not for this project then future ones :thumbsup

Got myself a nice police shirt. Yeah, the pockets are pleated, but it's good enough for me. As well as the accurate LAPD badge, I also now have the accurate Bic pen, LAPD buttons and matt silver name badge.

And on the bust:

I have a good Gregory wig (shade 10) and Tech Optics have made the custom eye - it's on it's way to me. Once that arrives, I can get this whole thing finished. (y)D

Cool piece and nice progress. Man, I still need to get that name tag and pen and glass eyes. Curse my continually bad habit of spending too much money on other things.
