Sylgian's Sith Stalker (501st approved!)

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

Little bit of late night searching tuned up these gloves.

They were on clearance for 6 bucks so I ordered them along with a wig to cannibalize for the long stip of hair.

I am going to try cutting some holes in the right forearm/hand of the bodysuit and expose the graphic printed on the glove to simulate the cyborg arm. Could be cool.

That is pretty cool... it could work fairly well as an illusion. It will be fun to see how it turns out. This is the most interesting part of the costume... to see how people tackle the exposed cybernetic arm. I have seen a few different ways that it has been done. This is one of the simplest and what would seem to be a very effective solution. Good work. Of course, I have my own ideas for when I tackle this costume. ;)

Now if you were really dedicated to the costume you would just do this:

This is looking amazing! Can't wait to see more of your work as you progress.

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

Another day, another round of bondo. There will be a good deal more adding and subtracting of body filler, but we are making progress.

If I find time this evening I may begin work on the skirt panels. I found some awesome material on sale. Its a large and relatively simple part of the costume to craft so I am eager to knock it out.

Well, I didn't get to the skirt. BUT, I was able to sit down and finish up crafting all of the claws ;)

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuddddddddddddeeeeeeeeeeee..........sweet project mannn...****ing inspiring stuff.....

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

I spent my lunch today refining the shape of my claws a bit. This was something I could do at my desk with little mess. The scale and shape were both off. I made them a bit slimmer and I added a bit of a curve to the bottom edge.

the new version is on top an old blank is on the bottom. I am much happier with it.

WHAT A NIGHTMARE!

Well gang... I encountered a problem today. As you may be aware, we are experiencing some high temperatures lately. This was causing my bondo to cure far too rapidly. To combat this, I was adding less hardener to my mix. Well, It seems I took it too far last night.

Long story short, last nights bondo was still slightly tacky when I resumed work today. I was forced to spend about 5 hours scraping away at semi-hardened bondo. To give oyu an idea of its consistency: I was able to gouge it with my fingernails, but unable to wipe or scrape it easily.

I made negative progress today! GRRRR.

Yup I have encountered that problem as well. Here in Texas the temp can get up over 100 degrees during the summer months.

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

All the botched bondo has been removed. I spent some of the evening applying new layers of bondo to the ribs. This time I added plenty of hardener. That is going to set up until tomorrow when some initial sanding can begin.

Side note: Today I also mailed in an entry form to the Celebration VI costume pageant

I got to work measuring and cutting the skirt panels. I bought some great fabric that has a bit of a shine and leather texture to it. It was both heavy enough to hang nicely and light enough that it should move well.

Here is a pic of the fabric.

Seriously flattered, and humbled. Thanks very much for the encouragement.

I got the skirts stitched up this evening. So I did a quick photo shoot for everyone. Its looking pretty good! My one complaint is that the helmet looks just a bit too large. I think it is mainly because the rib pieces are still not complete.

I did a quick photoshop (see below). The scale of the helmet looks much better with the ribs in place. I look a bit too top-heavy without the ribs IMO. Getting some sabers hanging from my hips should help too.

WITH the ribs. Looks WAYYYYY better, I think.

And from the back, which is the show stealer.

Okay, well... he has much nicer shoulders than I do.

Not too far off though.
