Sylgian's Sith Stalker (501st approved!)

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

Alrighty, I am back again. With under 2 months until celebration VI its time I get back to work. I have quite a bit left to do. I am gonna start with getting over the biggest hurdle first. The hard armor rib-cage thingy is first up.

Let the pep'ing begin.

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

Your paint job is inspirational. The build is beautiful so far.

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

Okay, so my rib pep is finished. Big thanks to Darkside501st for uploading that file. It would have taken a LARGE effort for me to get something together from scratch.

Here is where it stands as of tonight. Hardening is taking place tomorrow. I hope to get a good amount of work done as I am off for the 4th of July!

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

Great looking build, and you have some serious talents there! Wish I could do even close to that kind of quality.

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

Its raining, but I managed to make it to the shed and apply a coat of resin to the newly pep'd rib cage armor. Waiting for it to dry and then comes a layer of fiberglass. I may get to that this evening if I am lucky. If not, I will have more progress for you tomorrow.

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

This is an awesome build. I haven't done anything lately but this makes me want to get back at it. Great job!!

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

Man I hate fiberglassing. all the hills and valleys on the inside of these pieces were a pain in the #$%. But, I did get it done. The pieces are drying overnight and Bondo will start flying tomorrow.

Thanks! Its true, I am not very speedy, its been a long road already. I will see it through to the end if it kills me. I have come way too far to quit! SOO MANY HOURS.... but its my first build so I'm not being too hard on myself.

Anyway, I did make progress today. I started slapping bondo on the ribs. This proved to be difficult with as hot as it is outside. The bondo was curing very quickly.

Because of the heat I took solace indoors and started on the claws out of sintra. This is going pretty well. AND I made it to the fabric store to pick up the last of my fabric for the skirt pieces. Not too bad a day!

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

Made great progress since I last saw your thread, as already said great dedication.
That, as you put it, rib cage thing looked horrible to fibre glass, my hat is off to you. impressive work.

Awesome, I am glad to see someone finally build my Sith Stalker pep file... or part of it anyways. Give me some feedback if you would. Did you have to scale it up quite a bit? How was the assembly of the pieces? That was one of my first pep pieces and unfolds... I have learned a few tips and tricks since then but I always like to get feedback so that I can improve the files.

Thanks, Mike

Hey, thanks again for making those! Assembly was not bad at all. There are some smaller pieces that could have been incorporated into other, larger pieces to make things a bit simpler.

There were a handful of pieces I did not use and a good deal of trimming that I did along the inside edges to make more room for my torso. I did not change the scale. I am 6'0" and 190lbs, with the trimming I did it fits me pretty comfortably. If I had to do it over again, I might have gone up in scale a few percent. But I like that they look rather svelte on me and not bulky.

I did not use the brace pieces, it was rigid enough in card-stock that they were not necessary. And there was a good portion of the inside modeled that I found to be unnecessary.

I am not a veteran or anything, but I would give it an 8 out of 10. :) Completely use-able and it looks really nice, but could be refined to improve ease-of-assembly.

I will have some bondo progress pics up later tonight.

Cool, Thanks... good review. This will be helpful when I take another look at the files. The helmet is too small according to another review I got... but it is all in scale which makes sense since the helmet is actually a replacement head... it would have to be scaled up to fit over someones head.

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker (WIP)

Break time. It is wicked hot outside again. Of course this means I get roughly one minute of work time with my bondo. So I am working in small batches, and its taking forever.

I have one side covered in a rough coat. I did a bunch of coarse sanding on it. It will be tough to remove all the hard angles, but I hope to get it looking a bit more rounded.

Hopefully the other side will go faster :)
