Survivor: Heroes vs Villains Discussion Thread - Spoilers

I don't get all this hate at Sandra. She's just playing the game and isn't any more devious than any of the rest of them. Maybe it's because she's not as cute as Parvati and the other girls?

To me, I see her as just being in a tough spot and doing what she must to stay in the game. In fact, she's been the only player smart enough to be gunning for Russel without sending off his troll antennae and becoming his main threat target.

Sure she's flipping, but it's got some strategy behind it. Candice seemed to be changing her mind according to who was talking to her without really thinking through what she was doing on her own.

It's also very interesting to see Russel finally realize that Parvati sees their alliance as one of convenience rather than trusting him. When she said that it scared him when she came up with the second idol - and that's kind of what she WANTED, I realized I had underestimated her mischievousness too. She isn't afraid of him, and I like that about her.

I just still hold bad feeling for Sandra from Pearl Islands! I am still floored she won that one!
I do think Russell will be out next week, Parvati will have much more control than he, especially as it seems like he is starting to threaten others in his alliance. Personally of the people still in the game, I'd like to see either Rupert, Colby, Russell or Parvati win. The first two because I've always rooted for them since their first times on the show, the second because I like how they play the game. It's no secret that Parvati has ridden on Russell's coat tales for a while, he saved her butt early on, but she also shows that she is on the villains team for a reason and I like the deviousness.

Has nothing to do with "cute" as I don't think Parvati is all that cute either.

There is playing the game and then there is thriving on deceit and villainy. I truly see Russel as playing the game. He is thrilled by plans working and seeing his strategies come to fruition. I don't see him reveling in the underhandedness of it, but in just doing what he needs to do and getting it done. I am by no means saying Russel is a saint. He clearly isn't. But what I do see is a "by any means necessary" kind of individual, who is more interested in the goal than the means.

With Sandra (as with Kourtney) and a bit with Parviti, I see a pleasure in deceiving or hurting others or a desire for revenge and it just isn't a pretty thing to watch.

With that being said, I truly do believe this game tends bring out the worst in people and highlight the basest of natures and it tends to reward those who are the worst.

Sadly, I agree with Eopie Herder. Russel is cracking and I think he will soon be out and with him will go pretty much any interest I had left in this season.

How is it all about hurting people for the girls and just playing the game for Russell?

This is from last season. He is clearly enjoying lying and deceiving the other players and calls them stupid:

I admit, he's better this season, but still, he's just as bad as the girls, he's just better at the game (well, he may not be as good as Parvati.;) )so he's usually got more power and doesn't have to scramble as much.

Julie,

I don't think the fact that Sandra is so unattractive physically drives everyone's hatred toward her--it's because she has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. When she was in the majority under the protective arms of Boston Rob, she was rub-your-face-in-it nasty towards Russell and his minority of followers. And now that she's a pariah to the erstwhile Villain tribe, she's lying to everyone--including her Hero "buddy" Rupert. Some buddy she's being to him, courting his vote the last three days on the island and then double-flipping back to the Villains side in the last minute.

Parvati is hot, and I used to HATE her. (I've gotten to like her a tiny bit this season.) And Amanda is beautiful as well, but I really can't stand her. So looks ain't the answer.

I tell you one thing, Kourtney has a mouth on her. Always commenting on things. Did you see when Jeff said, "I'll go read the votes". She is sitting there going, "Yeah, you go do that Jeff". She seems like she would be a snot back in her regular life.

I agree, if Russell goes, this won't be nearly as fun to watch as it currently is. I hope they do what they did for Rupert his last time around and give away another Million dollar prize via the audience vote. I would hope Russell would take that home. But that's just me.

It is a shame you are taking it as some type of sexist bent. There were plenty of guys in the past who would fall in the same category... Tyson immediately comes to mind as does Randy... they just came across as nasty individuals... much like Sandra does. Again, nothing to do with a women vs men thing, the only difference is that they guys with those particular character traits are long gone (thankfully) while some of the women have remained to annoy show after show.

Okay... I haven't heard much hate on Amanda or Parvati as much as Sandra, so I was throwing it out there trying to figure it out.

I too like Parvati much more and, amazingly Jerri too.

Art,

I didn't mean it was a sexist thing necessarily, I'm just trying to understand the comments in the thread that do seem directed at the girls, especially Sandra. Cause I just don't see her as any worse than the rest. :unsure

Since you didn't respond to the video I'm guessing you're not finding his attitude in that clip as annoying as those of Tyson or Parvati or any of the others you think have a worse character traits of enjoying revenge?

We'll just have to disagree. Cause in that clip he REALLY gets under my skin as being a super troll. :lol

I have to say, having a thread to discuss these shows makes watching them more fun and interesting that's for sure. :thumbsup

You will get no arguments from me that Russell is an angel or role model. Clearly he is arrogant, which in my opinion is his greatest flaw. But yes, I do find him a LOT less annoying than Sandra who seems to offer nothing but complaints and a relatively poor showing at every challenge and just a nasty, bitter and vindictive attitude. Perhaps in my mind it is the lesser of evils and from what I am seeing in this season, none of the "good" guys ever had a prayer. :(

You know, surprisingly I like Jerri this time around a whole lot more than previously. She certainly deserved to be on the villains tribe for her past stints on the show, but she has been very likable to me this time. And for that matter, I liked Coach too, and I didn't expect too. I never saw his first time on the show as I missed several seasons, but from what I had heard he also deserved to be on the villains side. But, I really ended up liking him and watching the Ponderosa vids on CBS.com has made him even more likable.

Julie, I think that's because most people here seem to love Russell--myself included--and Sandra is, and has been, trying everything she can to topple him. Not only is she the last one standing from Boston Rob's alliance in the old Villain tribe, but she seems to HATE Russell even more now than ever (if that's humanly possible). In contrast, Parvati has been Russell's ally thus far, and Amanda has shown no particular distaste for Russell, any more than she has for all the other Villains. I believe that's why people here haven't been railing on them.

It is great, especially since only three of my real life friends watch the show, and too often when I call them the next day they can't discuss it because they haven't watched it yet on their DVRs. FrUsTraTiNg!!!

I agree that Jerri and even, I can't believe I am saying this, Coach have really came across as very likable on this season.

Coach is King D-bag. He's a joke. He's one of those guys who will lie and tell you he's a Navy SEAL or a CIA Agent. :lol

Even on the last season he was on, Coach came across to me as more delusional than evil... sort of like Micheal Scott of "The Office". He lies because he's wants so bad to be something important, that vision of the ideal, that he gets caught up in it and actually ends up believing his own stories.

I too liked Coach much more this season - I thought he and Jerry were good for each other. It's almost as if she believed the warrior dragon saint image enough that it made her want to be a better person, and that tiny bit of belief in him (from someone other than himself) gave him confidence that made him not need to exaggerate the stories so much.

It was one of the more interesting relationships this season, that's for sure.

I liked Coach in his original run simply because he was so full of himself. He'd created a character for himself to play on the show and seemed to have a lot of fun doing it.

It was almost sad to see him this season as he seemed like such a broken man...until he got to Ponderosa and then he had SO much fun it was hard not to like him again. :)

I don't really have a problem with Sandra so much as I do with Candice. Candice had ZERO reason to flip this past week and despite seeing what was going on...she STILL did it. As far as I'm concerned, she's no better than Parvati.

Wow, didn't see the events of tonight coming. For once, I wasn't disappointed that Sandra didn't go. Great play by Rupert faking them out on the idol bit, it saved his butt. I have a feeling he and Colby may make it a little further than I would have guessed, but Russell is a BIG target now.
