Survivor: Fans vs Favorites

I do not get why Dawn went off to tell Phillip after talking to Julia. Maybe she's afraid of her own position and wanted to be more secure? But they are letting him run the game and deserve every loss he leads them to.

It's silly - like they are afraid of him or something.

Cochran is very enjoyable still, and I am looking forward to more Malcolm. When what's his name told Malcolm he had an idol I just had to laugh. Good old Malcolm, everyone trusts him...

But, back to gross food challenges? Really?

Why can't they just let this show be Survivor?

Well, gross food challenges were a staple of the show in the beginning. It only stopped when Fear Factor came around and outgunned them on the gross out factor. Survivor pretty much dropped it completely at that time. Now that FF is gone and forgotten, I am actually looking forward to a good food gross out. It's been gone too long.

All I can say is that if Philip was a federal agent he had to have been a guy at a desk. I can't see him passing the psych tests a field agent must surely go through to do the job. If not, god help the U.S. if that's the kind of people we're employing! So far, just this season, he's a super agent, a street fighter, a power lifter, etc. I loved how he blamed his inability to run in the reward challenge on the girls because he said they couldn't keep up. Vote him off already!

My GOD!!! That pink underwearing idiot really does live in his own world doesn't he? I loved watching Cochran literally biting his own jaws to keep from laughing at this imbecile!!

Phillip is extremely annoying but I actually feel a bit sorry for him because what I see is someone who has absolutely no control and no authority in their life so he is exercising it in any way possible while on the show. While I think he is almost delusional enough to believe his own bs, I think deep down, he knows exactly what and who he is. I have seen it many times, even within communities like this. When you recognize it, for as annoying as the person might be, I can't help but feel a little sad for just how pathetic they truly are.

When I think of Phillip, the Federal Agent, this is the type of work I image he did.

Boston police catfishing indie rockers: Cops pose as punks on the Internet. - Slate Magazine

As anyone who's watched a single crime story on TV or film knows, undercover detective work is dangerous business. There inevitably comes a moment when the crime boss gets suspicious. Scary, sure, but at least police officers have a working knowledge of the rules of the crime game. They’ve trained their whole lives to pull off this deception.

Passing yourself off as a credible music scenester, on the other hand, is an order of magnitude more difficult. Never mind drug lords—no one can identify a poseur more quickly than a hipster; sniffing out fakes is essentially the entire job description. That's what Boston police are finding out as their bungling efforts to infiltrate the underground rock scene online are being exposed.

A recently passed nuisance control ordinance has spurred a citywide crackdown on house shows—concerts played in private homes, rather than in clubs. The police, it appears, are taking a particularly modern approach to address the issue: They're posing as music fans online to ferret out intel on where these DIY shows are going to take place. While police departments have been using social media to investigate for years, its use in such seemingly trivial crimes would be rather chilling, if these efforts didn’t seem so laughably inept.

Don't want to get off track here, but wow. If I were a Bostonian, I would be pretty annoyed to know the police were spending time on something like this before getting violent crime down to 0.

Tonight was the best episode I've seen in a while. Definitely the best this season. A good old-fashioned gross food eating challenge, and a final half hour FILLED with strategizing! Tribal was very tense. I HATED the outcome, because I like Corinne and her amazing glutes, and also because I want to see Philip go down in flames!

Corinne deserves to go home, though, given her UNBELIEVABLE STUPIDITY in talking to blabbermouth Dawn! You DIDN'T NEED DAWN, CORINNE!!!! But no, you were too stupid to see the gift Philip served up to you on a silver fracking platter! Uggghhh!

All Corinne had to do was go along (ostensibly) with Philip's plan to split the vote between Reynold and Eddie. She should have said, "That's brilliant, Philip, here's what we'll do, we'll set it in stone right now, so there's no screwups. You, me, Malcolm, and Andrea will vote for Reynold. And Cochran, Brenda, Dawn, and Eric will all vote for Eddie. That's 4 votes for each of them, and we can flush any idols they may possess. And even if the 4 fans all vote for the same favorite, we'll have a three way tie, and do a re-vote, at which point 2 (Reynold and Eddie) of the 4 fans won't be able to vote, and 1 (whoever the fans vote for) of our 8 favorites will not be able to vote...leaving us favorites with a 7 to 2 advantage in the re-vote, assuring us victory. Great idea, Philip! Let's go tell the others!".

And the stage would've been set up perfectly for the blindside, as the vote would ACTUALLY go down like this...

Eight Favorites
Cochran........Eddie
Dawn...........Eddie
Brenda..........Eddie
Eric..............Eddie
Philip............Reynold
Andrea.........Reynold
Corinne........Philip
Malcolm........Philip

Four Fans
Reynold........Philip
Eddie...........Philip
Michael........Philip
Sherri..........Philip

She did push things too far, and it finally bit her. The thing to watch now will honestly be Dawn and Cochran. Neither of them is happy with Philp in charge, but both are worried about where they fit into the alliances.

The preview shows Malcolm taking to Dawn, I just hope he has learned from last season. So far, he seems to be playing a much better game. I'm actually hoping he makes it all the way.

I was dreading the food challenge, but Cochran winning it had me cheering! So awesome... He's my favorite by far.

I too was disappointed to see Corinne go, though I too think she deserved it. She had a brilliant plan, but carried it out in a very ridiculously stupid way. She got cocky and blabbed and it blew up in her face.

Dawn... I don't like what she did because I wanted Phillip to go home, but I understand it. Corinne wasn't looking out for her at all and she was smart to solidify Andrea and Cochran's positions. Now they will go further and for that, I can forgive her for blabbing more than Corinne for blabbing. :p

Eric - WHY IS HE ON THIS SHOW??? It's like he's on vacation with a bunch of people who are playing some game.

"I was dreading the food challenge, but Cochran winning it had me cheering! So awesome... He's my favorite by far"

Ditto, been kind of the underdog of the show. Now under estimated.

Eric is a wild card through and through, not something any of the members should count on. It did help Cochran's cause though and I think he played an excellent game. If he did nothing, he would not have a chance after this segment, it was a brilliant play and pops Cochran up as one of the potential top players.

Phillip is unfortunately the game show black sheep to potentially be taken to the end. Hate seeing that scenario as I would rather see the game played on the strengths of the individuals. But it is the more safer route to take. He was taken aback at the end by the vote, it will be interesting to see how he handles it now, it could be the next player mental breakdown. lol

That was idiotic. Corinne and Malcom decided to go after an arm instead of going after the head like Philip did. If those two were smart they would have taken Sheri (? I think that's her name) and had her vote with them, since she said she hates Philip! I hope they figure out what Dawn is doing because she's basically Philip's little puppet.

The wife and I have been Survivor fans since the show started. Our 19 year old grew up tuning in with mom and dad to watch the show!

I was thrilled to see Corrine go. Not because she got greedy and couldn't let Philip delude himself into thinking he is the mastermind, not because she blabbed to a bigger blabber mouth (Dawn) but because of her disgusting "My Gay" attitude toward Michael. Replace the word gay with another other designation and would that float on television? That woman was awful, I cheered when Jeff started counting off the votes in her name. :D

The game boils down to Phil's group against Malcom. The blind side opens a whole new chance for alliances to fall and change. It also means that Malcom does not have a clear shot at the end although I think he has a strong chance currently. It certainly opens doors for others like Cochran, which I would like to see at least have a chance at it.
Frankly, I thought it revived what was turning out to be another unchangeable domino effect. The game just a bit more interesting again.

God, I was so glad to see Corrine go!!! I actually cheered when that vote was read. I could...not...stand...her!!! The only thing that would have made it better would have been if Michael had been in on the blindside. I was hoping he would get tired of being her token gay. That crap really pi$$ed me off. I'm not gay, but her attitude of him as an object to possess instead of as a person really burned me up!!...Good riddance!!

THAT WAS A FREAKING AWESOME EPISODE!!! :D :D :D

Cochran winning the food challenge was just epic! Whether he wins the game or not (personally I'd like to see him win as he is an underdog), he has grabbed his golden ring with that victory! Kudos! Good on you Cochran! :thumbsup

So this was by far one of the best blindsides I've seen in a decade! For a moment (while they were voting) I thought that Erik would wouldn't flip as they didn't have time to explain the reason to vote out Corinne. But he did it anyway! :D

Having said all that... I still do NOT like Phillip and will be happy if he goes home next week (again, I think he's going to the end as one of those players no one will vote for). AND I knew Dawn was going to blab as soon as Corinne spilled the plan to her (I thought she was going to go to Phillip first though).

At any rate, I laughed long and hard when Corinne went home! The look of horror on her face as she realized the votes were headed her way was priceless!

And my apologies to those who were fans of Corinne for my candid harshness. I'm certainly not a fan of Sherri, but wasn't a fan of Corinne either, and just love a great blindside! It's pretty boring when votes go exactly as planned every single time (such as in Kim's season).

this week was SO GOOD! This kind of scheming, confusion of who to trust, possible romance brewing and struggling to figure out who was going to do what... it's the best kind of survivor. No gimmicks to keep us interested; the show is the show again!

I thought for a bit there that Malcolm may have over played his hand, but his move at the end has got to place him as one of the most audacious Survivors EVER.

He scrambles to get the fans on his team to vote for Andrea, he votes for Reynold, and even though he has an idol, he stands up and asks Reynold for his just as he's about to play it!!

Now, I don't think he was trying to stick it to Reynold as much as try to vote the way the favorites told him to vote so that they might trust him again... and to try to convince everyone that he really does not have the other idol. I'm not sure what he's going to do back at camp as far as explaining himself, but I can't wait to see it

Other notes: I asked about Erik last week, but, why is Brenda there? She has done nothing as far as scheming.

Also - Phillip... he really has no clue everyone is laughing at him and he just keeps playing his secret agent game while everyone else plays Survivor around him. It's really very sad, actually.

Yes, that's two great episodes in a row, now. Tonight's episode was great, but it could've been EPIC--one of the best eps ever--if all the favorites had voted for Malcolm and Andrea had gone home. Oh God, I sooooo BADLY wanted that outcome!!!! UGHHHHHH!

ps~I can't fracking stand Dawn. I know she's just being loyal, and playing the game, the way she blabs to her alliance about everything she hears...but when she does it, more so than others, it really turns me off for some reason.

Really?? I LOVE the Andrea vs. Malcolm drama! I'm glad she stayed so we can see more of it.

Having two strong, smart players not on the same side is fascinating. It's usually just one person dominating the game with others going along with them blindly against underdogs. To me that is so boring. I like to see two pretty equal players trying to outwit each other. And they really are fairly nice people too - no nasty hateful personal stuff coming out of them. They are just playing the game.

Crazy funny is that Philip really thinks he's the Boston Robb of this game.

Yeah, I had trouble with her last week, but this week she pulled off a pretty good lie with Malcolm. She is smart and is playing to win - she just doesn't have a charismatic of a personality.

Looking at previews, she seems to not be able to handle the pressure emotionally. She was pretty upset with Andrea's panic last minute vote change this week that undid most of what Dawn had worked on with Malcolm - and is going to make her look very untrustworthy now. I'm going to guess that's what it is... she loses her 'neutral, I'm on everyone's side' stance that she's been enjoying.
