Survivor: Fans vs Favorites

Brandon obviously has issues. Remember in the first show when he wanted to vote out that one girl (was it Amanda?) because she was good looking? I mean seriously dude, if you can't control yourself and stay faithful to your wife because a pretty girl is around you, you shouldn't be married. Still I thought it was hilarious that someone finally told Philip off for the ridiculous idiot he is. "I'm a streetfighter!" :lol Dumb*ss...

I've been watching it, but it seems like the show has been so dumbed down from what it started as that it gets boring. Remember when it was complicated to find Immunity Idols? You actually had to get the clues to find it. Now they just want them to easily find them. Also when is the last time you saw someone start a fire with their eye glasses? Several seasons back at least. I'm convinced they told them they can't do that. I also think that, unless the contestants are extremely lazy, they aren't allowed to hunt or make a shelter more than a lean-to. I'm no expert, but you can make a really good shelter that is pretty much water proof out of palm fronds and bamboo. I know a couple of guys in the past few that said they hunted, yet you didn't see any of them attempting to trap or catch anything.

Oh, and I think the only reason Phillip was in any kind of control was he was scared. As soon as Brandon was under Jeff's control, he mouthed off about Brandon's kids - an absolutely ridiculously bad idea given everything he knows about Brandon. Like poking a hornet nest. Crazy stupid.

Completely disagree. Now, don't get me wrong. I don't like Phillip. He is incredibly ridiculous. However, I don't think for a split second that he was afraid of Brandon. What is to be afraid of from that attention-seeking child? Again, Bradon isn't crazy or insane. He is just an immature child, acting out in order to get attention.

I am with you on this!!! I told Kristen the same thing. They are always shown as miserable in the shelter when they could EASILY build a better shelter... and it is essentially always the same shelter. I feel like they MUST be limited on what they are allowed to build due to the filming limitations. I know it endlessly annoys me, but I wish there was just a little more survivor in Survivor. I would LOVE to see someone's outdoor skill actually improve and affect their gameplay. Everyone's moans about the emotional impact of the game and the harshness of living in that environment, but I think, if allowed, a skilled individual could greatly change that impact by creating some creature comforts early on in the game.

I said last night that they really need someone like Cody from Dual Survivor on their tribe to build a descent shelter. It is ridiculous that they are so cold and wet when there are ways to build good shelters - unless they simply have no clue how to do it, which is completely possible.

you would think that with a group of Super Fans, they would notice that ALL shelters suck if they don't get the magic Tarp. Then do Research on how to make a decent roof on a lean too. hell, layering the roofs some more and making the roof larger would help.

No clue among anyone of them. is it even worht offering the fishing gear anymore? I haven't seen anyoen even try this season. but with no rice, I'm hoping they have to go out now and fish.

Good points. It does seem as if a few people have tried practicing fire starting before coming on the show, but not fishing or shelter building.

One thing that frustrates me is when they are building the shelters there always seems to be one guy who looks like he wants to take charge and make it happen and then some other guy starts getting his manliness hurt and poo - poos the hard work. Then, the Shamal I think it was this time... and then, those working on it don't want to be singled out as a target for being bossy, so they stop working on it.

That's one of the bad vibes of Survivor, you want to be good and work hard but not TOO hard or you are obnoxious or a threat... it inspires a lot of playing to the lowest common denominator.

That's why I'd probably get voted out pretty quick if I ever was on the show. I'm not the bossiest of people nor am I one of those who have to be in charge but I do have a tendency to be a bit anal about things like stupidity and laziness and that's what would get me in trouble with my tribe. I've always told my wife that if I were ever on Survivor I'd be very sorely tempted to ban together with all of the people on my tribe who believe in actually working and not just sitting around doing nothing all day and institute a policy of "you don't work, you don't eat".

I would have been off the island this season the first time I heard "I'm saving my energy for challenges, you'll have to bring me rice at least once a day."

I'm telling you, I'd be the loner with my own shelter on the island lol. I'd help everyone, but no way I'd be in for the communal rain leak they call shelter till you win the all important Tarp.

Holy crap, my dad (a USMC vet) had a fit every time that guy was shown. He emailed me and said "I don't know what kind of Marines they're turning out now, but I hope he's an exception because he's not acting like a Marine!"

Dude, I was Army National Guard and that made me flip. I immediately wanted him gone. Damn, that was bad.

My thoughts...

First, thanks Julie for starting this thread. :)

Okay, Brandon's the most capricious and immature castaway I've seen in 23 seasons of Survivor. And he's an embarrassment to the Hantz name. I'd have straightened him out real quick if he was on *my* tribe. He wouldn't have dared dump that rice.

Philip is delusional, and I can't wait for Malcolm to slit his throat. However, I must give credit where credit is due, and Philip has been a stud in challenges this season. Which is odd, because IIRC, he sucked in challenges last time. And I, like Julie, agree with everything Brandon said about Philip. The whole "Stealth-R-Us" thing is absurd.

Julie, I love ya, but you've still got it all wrong about Russell. :D Listen to Art, he knows the score.

I'm very happy that dude (his name escapes me at the moment) found his second Hidden Immunity Idol. I think I'm pulling for him to go all the way.

Shamar is a lazy piece of shat. I'd have straightened him out, too.

Jeff may've been acting on direction from his earpiece, but he still handled the situation with aplomb.

I think all the Hantzes are an embarrasement to the game. Russel was NOT a great player. If you changed the rules and took away the jury vote then maybe. But as it stands his game was seriously SERIOUSLY flawed. I've said it before, that's like saying a football team played a better game--they just didn't score any touchdowns.

Pretty boring episode tonight, the tribes shuffle notwithstanding. (And Crikey, that orange tribe is stacked!) But I'm always a bit bored watching the last 20 minutes of Survivor when I have zero interest in the two castaways on the chopping block, which was certainly the case tonight.

If anyone wants proof Philip isn't running shat out there, except his mouth, just look at who got the boot. Not Philip's pick, he wanted the girl gone. And his "Stealth-R-Us" speech to Matt and the gay guy was nauseating. :sick

The best part, I thought, was the sneak preview for next week. It "appears" Malcolm is finally ready to step out from the wings onto the stage, and I was glad to see him shaking hands with Reynold. I wouldn't mind seeing either one of those guys win the game. It also appears Philip stumbles next week, literally and figuratively. Let's hope. I don't even find his antics entertaining, so I don't want him to make the jury, let alone the final three.

The orange tribe is stacked, but there is already some disunity. My hope is that Malcolm is able to string Reynold along just enough to blindside him. I'm betting that the guys start trusting Malcolm enough to tell him Reynold has an idol.

And hopefully Malcolm will continue playing it smart and not tell anyone he has the idol. If he would have told Andrea he had it, she would have blabbed. She has shown herself as completely untrustworthy as far as secrets go.

As for Philip - it's unbearable listening to him anymore. Every time they cut to him I cringe. The only thing redeemable is that EVERYONE sees through it. I wonder if watching it on tv he realizes it or if he still thinks his game was good.

I totally agree with you, Wook, about not wanting Philip in the jury but I'm worried that they because he is so obviously one of those people anyone can win against at the end, that someone is going to think of that and keep him so they can beat him.

I liked Corinne's line about Philip, how if he is an example of our federal agents, no wonder the country is so messed up. haha!

They really need to give Cochran some more air time. He's funny, interesting and has a good take on what's going on.

Philip has now become a royal pain to watch. I hate when players get all cocky and start talking about how they rule the game...No Philip....you have little control in this game, as evidenced by last nights episode. Also, cut out that stealth R Us crap...it's just weird.

I really like Cochran this time around. He's a solid player.

Also, Philip's team is SCREWED as far as challenges goes now.

Anyway, pretty tame episode. I'm sad to see Matt leave but that's just the way it goes. Lets hope Philip gets sent home next week.

I sure got tired of hearing "I love gay people" every five seconds. I have nothing against gay people but hearing her love for them every freaking time she got on camera started to bother me.

My thing with that is that if I was gay I'd be telling her "I'm Michael (I think), not 'The Gay'". That was kind of stupid. I don't remember her at all from any Survivor anyway.

I want Philip gone. I cannot believe nobody has picked up on how he constantly dictates and pretty much tells people to do what he says. I think he thinks that he was an apprentice to Rob and learned all his secrets. Gimme a break.

Yeah, Phillip is a joke but you know he will go far because he is "the goat". You want him by you at the end because you know he will get no votes. This scenario is one of the things I really dislike about the game. It's finally gotten to where people "know" how to beat the game. I don't like that.

I'm always a week behind as I DVR the episodes, but here's my take on last week's...

First off I totally agree that there is a lot of strength on the new orange tribe!

Cochran is one smart cookie- he pretty much knew that Matt didn't have the idol by saying Matt was acting too desprately. Makes perfect sense: if your head is potentially on the chopping block and you act flippant about it, you must either have the idol in your pocket, or are ready to go home.

Personally I think Phillip is still running the show---

He asks the new members to vote for Julia as their "test." But Matt went home- why?

They were splitting the vote in case an idol was played.

So they think Matt "might" have the idol. The Favourites vote for Matt, and Phillip gets the Fans to vote for Julia.

Look at what Phillip said just before the vote- "If you have (the idol) you're going to play it; if you don't you're probably going home."

So they vote for Matt. He doesn't have the idol so he went home. And even if he DID have the idol, the majority of votes would have went to Julia and another Fan would have gone home.

I have a feeling that the purple tribe is more or less finished winning challenges as they were destroyed in that last challenge (unless of course the next challenge is one of those "thinking" challenges- memory etc that will level the playing field). However if the purple tribe keeps losing, the fans on that team are goners.

Did you see the look on Cochran's face when he was listening to Philip's confession?! Ohhh Lordy, he could barely contain his laughter! :rollin

Also loved Cochran's thorough and passionate apology to the flavor vanilla, just after calling last night's casualty, "vanilla". LOL
