Supernatural 1967 Impala Conversion

I do have a question for the true Impala guys (can't find a good Impala forum to ask...or anything 67 specific):
In the first pic, I noticed that this is an automatic trans car (two pedals), BUT I am not seeing the gear selector on the steering column. Any ideas as to why this is? In the 2nd pic, there is no floor shifter either. Anyways...on to the pics, I know forum folks love pics.

Welcome to the club mate :D

You are missing the shifter indicator. It should be on the top of the column, the piece closest to the gauges. Remove that and see what you're missing. At the very least you'll need the plastic cover, and the gearing selector, the latter of which is not reproduced. You'll have to buy one used.

Best bet is to find a complete used column, that way you'll have everything in case there's a few smaller pieces missing elsewhere.

Something like this: 1967 Impala Caprice Steering Column Automatic Shift with Column Cover and Brace | eBay

If you're after a Chevy specific forum, check out ChevyTalk. It's a big place but there's a 67-69 Impala specific sub-forum. Good place, with tonnes of info and helpful people. I'm a member there.

Thanks mate! I've been on the RPF before, checking out the DIY Iron Man suits and arc reactors. Pretty much anything Iron Man because he's my favorite, but (obviously) hadn't joined until now. I won't be able to check out the car in person myself until next weekend, but was making list of everything I will need to do to get her back to a mechanically & aesthetically sound car before going to Supernatural route.

At first look, I thought it had a "delete" panel on it, but now it looks like there's nothing there. Upon closer inspection of the pic, it looks like the indicator was removed and is just missing.

I will head over to ChevyTalk and I'll pretty much copy my first post as an intro for me and the car. I'll also keep this thread updated with my progress. Thanks, Russ and thehoff!

Alright fellow hunters I need some help!

I've got my car running great and the outside is getting ready for paint.
While that's getting worked on I'm going to gather everything I need to make the interior and exterior look identical to Dean's Baby.

Im looking to go all new. New door panels, arm rest and everything else down to the door lock knobs.

Im also looking for a new windshield and to get new speakers for the back hooked up.

If any of you can help me with hunting down the best deals for everything that would be a huge help.

Ive got nothing but free time right now. I was in an accident a little while back due to a drunk driver and I'm going through recovery now.

I have a few events coming up involving a ton of supernatural fans and I'm hoping to get my car completed by May 12th.

Also if any of you have any rare props you are selling I am definitely interested.

Luckily I have a good chunk of cash saved up. This project is pretty expensive.

Feel free to leave me a PM or contact me at 5thWinchester@gmail.com

Thanks everyone!

Well wishes for your recovery mate. No permanent damage I hope?

As for the parts list ... here's a few things I know of.

Door panels - can only be bought new from Cars Inc. Easiest is to call or email them, let them know what car model you have (sports sedan/ 4 door pillarless hardtop), and they'll tell you what to order and run you through the process.

Here's the rundown. The only 4 door panels they list for sale are for the Impala wagon. The only way they differ from our door panels is the top (we have no window rails/posts), so they are slightly longer, and the hole for the door lock knob is in a different spot. You need to do one of 2 things: either order the wagon panels unfinished (they come attached to the back board, but you need to install your own top metal rail), or send them your top rail, and they will install and send you complete, ready-to-install panels (which costs an additional $200).

The top metal rail - this is the curved metal piece at the top of the panels that sits over the top of the door - this is unique to the 4 door hardtop (because it has no window post) and, as always, is not reproduced. You need to supply your own. A rail from a regular sedan or wagon will not work on a pillarless hardtop.

They are currently available in 4 colours:

- Black
- Turquoise
- Light Blue
- Gold

- then you have to paint them light buckskin yourself. Because of this, the two best colours to choose from are Black, or Gold. Gold because it's the closest to light buckskin and will require less pain to cover; and black, because if you want to wait and paint them later because you have other things needing your attention, black will look more suitable in the interim.

If you order the unfinished panels to complete yourself, (as I did), this is what you get:

Due to me being in Australia, sending my rails to the US and having them install it costs more than me having them installed locally. Probably nominal in the US.

Arm rests - only the front arm rest and pad are reproduced. Readily available on eBay. The rear doors are different (both bases and pads) and not reproduced. You'll either have to restore your originals or find some used pieces.

Door lock knobs - available, but no idea what the show cars use. I went with original black pieces.

Everything else door related (interior trim wise) - window cranks etc are readily available and easily found on eBay, including window felts and weatherstrip.

Good luck. If you need help, just ask.

Hey Russ do you have any pics of the unfinished rear door panel , I would like to see them as I been really not sure if I should buy them because of the rear door panel needing that extra piece of material for the pillarless part of the panel.

No I don't sorry mate. The previous pics are the only ones I could find (they were from over a year ago).

This is the only picture I have of that area.

Holy crap that looks incredible! I'm still working on my interior...

What black paint is that exactly?

Also would anyone know where to get the long thin lock knobs for the doors and not the round flat ones? I'll post pictures soon.

Apparently they used both on the show since they used multiple cars. I just like the longer ones better haha.

Also I'm not sure what are the best speakers to by for the back and the material used around it.

Any my info you can give is much appreciated.

Thanks, I really liked how the paint turned out! My next step are the door panels since the seats were redone (I'll post picks of them soon...)

The paint is called Triple Black.

Would anyone know what type of steering wheel is used on the Metallicar? :confused Thanks in advance! :D

The steering wheel is just a plain stock 67 Impala steering wheel. Nothing fancy except for the $5 black vinyl wrap steering wheel cover they put on it....................... :p

Hi Russ, what is the piece called underneath the center cap?

Also do you know where to get the other pieces that are next to each side of the rear seat under the quarter panels.

Lastly I'm trying to find out the exact material used for around the speakers and what model speakers the Metallicar used as well as the correct driver side mirror and rear view mirror.

My impala "Cross" is currently being painted! Can't wait to show you guys the progress!!

Most of the interior is painted. Did the headliner today. All that's left to do is half the dash. Then it's time to get the seats re-trimmed. Then hopefully it'll be time to get the heads sorted so I can get it back on the road.

It's been hell not driving it. Only been off the road a few weeks and I miss it like crazy. Not even driving the 70 Challenger is fulfilling enough :(

What is this part right here called?

Officially? No idea. haha. I call them C pillar trim ot C pillar covers.

Again. Not reproduced. You'll have to find a used set. They'd also get disregarded a lot. Best chance is to find a car being parted out.

Haha great....:facepalm Figured as much lol Thanks for the info!:thumbsup

Would you also know what rear model speakers they used in the metallicar?

Also I need help with finding the names of two exterior trim pieces. They are the pieces located just above the windows. The inner one holds the weather stripped and the outer one is the rain catcher looking one. No clue what they are "Officially called" :lol

I'll be posting a few more pictures of my car next week! Can't wait to show everyone the progress. :D

Don't forget, that c-pillar trim should be the same for Impala, Caprice, BelAir, Biscayne - 2 doors, 4 doors, convertibles. From both the 67 and 68 years. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

The speakers are 6" Audivox rampage speakers. There's a few types (as far as wattage goes). Not sure on exactly which ones the car uses. Considering it's a prop car, could be the crap 35watters. No idea. If you go back to post #229 of this thread, scornell1 uses model # TRY-36, which are 120watt.

I went for 6x9 versions, as the 4 door hardtop has 2 6x9 holes factory pressed into the rear shelf. No need for cutting/drilling.

The "rain catcher" trim is the drip rail trim, and the other is the roof rail weather strip retainer. Again, not reproduced, however these are 4 door hardtop specific. Fastback are different, and post sedans don't have a retainer.
