Sucker Punch SPOILERS!

Re: Sucker Punch

I guess i'll continue my discussion here as well, it is the more appropriate forum for it.

It is an interesting theory SoulInertia. It certainly explains why the narrations in the beginning of the movie were done by Sweet Pea. When the two first see each other they seemed to connect in some level.
When sweet pea is in the lobotomy chair though, she was asking and ranting about how in the world could a lobotomy be sexy? It does beg the question though as to why she was dressed so similarly. I guess there is always the cop out that it's Babydolls head but maybe there is something more?
I like your idea at the end of the bus scene though, with the wise man and all. It does make some sense that baby doll's enlightenment includes sweet peas escape and returning home.

Also, are we sure that Babydoll killed her sister? I thought that she just aimed high and missed, thus shooting the light bulb; and that she was just too late to help her. They only showed that one shot. I always figured that the step dad framed baby doll for her sisters death.

The only problem I have with these theories about Rocket, Amber, and Blondie being alters or not existing is that after the lobotomy; like you said Soul, Madam Gorski goes on to tell her how much of a handful baby doll was. Going on to say that during her stay, they've lost three girls and helped one escape. Granted it's never stated who, just an assumption that it was Rocket Amber and Blondie.
Now I'm of the opinion that the events of the Brothel coincide with whatever events happened in the Asylum; and the fantasies are entirely in Babydoll's imagination separate from the other girls knowledge. Now I firmly believe that Blue did indeed kill Amber and Blondie because he found out the plan to escape.
But the whole end scene of sweet pea and the wiseman is a fantastic theory that it's in Babydolls head. Question is whether Sweet Pea was real or not, Interesting.

Re: Sucker Punch

Also, one more interesting thing to note. In the art book there is an explanation of Babydoll's sword and the engravings that are found on it.
Though she has fought, her friends are dead and her innocence is taken from her...she accepts defeat as the lobotomy doctor proceeds, but Babydoll, having nothing left, becomes enlightened by her acceptance.

That's right! Check out page 14: "..in Sucker Punch, the action sequences are integral to Babydoll's emotional and mental journey. They are a window into her mind and her perception becomes those action sequences completely enveloping and ultimately representing what might otherwise be considered important events happening on another plane of reality......(more stuff).....The fight for their lives (the girls) that are taking place inside BabyDoll's head are the only things she's focused on......"

There it is: It's all in Babydoll's head, because she was abused before she got to the asylum and she was abused in the asylum, and was afraid of the lobotomy. She was very mentally creative in giving herself strengths to endure it all....Her friends "died" (inside her head) because she only needed SweetPea (and SweetPea needed her, too) in the end. She found a way to truly mentally escape, which her inner-friends helped her do. That's why her eyes told the doctor that she WANTED the lobotomy. She had finally found a way to be peaceful, and she was going "home" - through SweetPea...with her inner wisdom (WiseMan) on the trip, too. We should all find that kind of strength and creativity in the painful parts of the dances of our lives!

Re: Sucker Punch

I haven't watched it yet but it looks like there'd be too much cgi in the background.. is there?

Re: Sucker Punch

Read that the 4 fantasies had metaphysical themes.

1st was wind where she gets her breath
2nd was earth
3rd was fire
4th was water

Hhmm. Kinda makes sense, but I don't see the "water"...unless it's those darn snowflakes. To start the fantasies, she closes her eyes and a snowflake lands on her (fake) eyelashes. Then she is in snow and wind. There is a snowflake pattern on the Wiseman's robe. Snowflake on the bottom of the hourglass in her 5 pistol charms...snowflakes show up somewhere else...I can't remember..maybe her tube that held the map?

Anyway....What's up with the snowflakes?! What's that symbolism?

Also, I don't think there is too much CG in anything...Eye candy for me...!

Don't forget the snowflakes on her sword scabbard too.

Hmmm, snowflakes. What could they represent?

No two are the same. Individuality
their geometric forms could represent perfection
They are also multi-faceted, the many faces of babydoll, hmmm.
tranquility, the atmosphere of silence that occurs when snows
snow covers everything in white - purity

Re: Sucker Punch

My take on the film: wanted to like it, but the ending killed it for me completely.
I truly felt sucker punched when Babydoll has the chance to escape, and she "chooses not to" for the greater good of just one person, and gets lobotomized anyway. Makes me think of Revenge of the Sith when Madme just "looses the will to live." Weak... I fell for her character so much. She lost everything, nothing but bad things happened to her, she doesn't deserve anything of what happened to her, and to have it end like that for Babydoll broke my heart. Pretty emo of me, I know. But i don't care....

So much of the movie is focused on HER; the whole beginning, all the awesome action scenes, and pretty much the entire movie (except the last 5 minutes) since we're seeing everything through her imagination and fantasies. To be told that the story isn't about her, and that she seems so much like the hero to me, and to have her be completely screwed in the end after all she's been through and what she's done is complete b*llsh*t. I get the whole "sacrifice" and "enlightenment", but I think it's a little far-fetched in this example, or just a bad cop-out when it came time to end the movie/story. Poor Babydoll :'(

I did like that it's a pretty original idea, and I dug the soundtrack, especially the remake of the Pixies tune. But didn't like how the movie was kind of played-up and hyped toward the geek/nerd/comic con culture, when really only a few scenes equaling just a small fraction of the actual film really lived up to that. All of the themes and played out action of abuse, repression, sexual abuse/rape, torture, death, was to me a little un-necessarily dark. Then again, what do I know...I'm just some nerd from Wisconsin.

Re: Sucker Punch

Mmm, biggest pile of CGI wank I've seen. My friend walked out 20 minutes in. I followed 10 minutes later. This is the only movie I've bailed on in 35 years of cinema going.(n)thumbsdown:thumbsdown

Re: Sucker Punch

***spoilers*****though if you've read this far through the thread I'm assuming you've already seen the movie or don't care about spoilers*****************

Wait....Baby Doll ends up getting a labotamy????? Cuz I saw the sneak peek months ago and that did NOT happen. When she woke up the doctor stopped because she said stop and looked at him in such a way that he saw "something" in her eyes that made him realize that she wasn't "crazy" or whatever the case was supposed to be with her. Did they seriously change that in the movie???? Sigh......if so that kind of sucks lol.....the movie was kind of depressing and that end sort of made up for it. I was going to wait to see it again when it came out on DVD but it sounds like they changed so much that I may have to see it again sooner.

Wow, I wish they would have kept it like that.
Would have made the movie a billion times better.
And wouldn't be so depressed that they did that to Babydoll =(
They DEFINITELY changed what you saw...maybe they'll put it in
the dvd/blu ray release as a new or alternate ending to the film....

Bummer....I just remembered to they did this whole thing where Madam Gorski and the doc look over the paperwork and realize the sig is not hers and that the people of the asylum were working against her so they smuggle her out and the last scene was of her leaving on a bus but the bus driver was the old man from her dreams. They would also cut back and forth from her to sweet pea I thiiiiinnkk.....it was a while ago that I saw it so I'm not 100% because the movie as a whole was a lot to take in. I guess the ending still had that sort of dream like "Inception" ending where you still weren't sure if she escaped but I got the feeling that she did and the dream like end was more to do with her outlook on life and freedom as opposed to anything else. I dunno.......well......when I see it again I'll just keep that ending in my mind lol!

Well they kept that scene in the Gorski, and they kept the bus scene in, but it's Sweet Pea getting on the bus, NOT Babydoll.
I really like the ending you thought you saw, haha.
Anyone else see that sneak speak you saw?

Oh wow....ya they had sweet pea walk to her family home after she escaped the asylum.....that's all they showed of her........the end was definitely about sweet pea AND baby doll. I saw it in.......Burbank?? No.....I can't remember the city name but it was somewhere within a 20 minute drive from Woodland Hills in SoCal. The theatre was obviously packed but I don't know if anyone else in there would be people from this forum.

so in the version you saw, Sweet Pea walked home and Babydoll got on the bus??

Re: Sucker Punch

Saw the movie today. Gorski doesn't say anything about the other girls at the end - just that Baby stabbed an orderley, started a fire and helped another patient escape.

Re: Sucker Punch

BTW, was it meant to be obvious that the entire fantasy levels take place in the split second before the ice pick hits Baby's eye, or is that just my interpretation?
