Studio Scale AT AT With Full Animation Armature

Thanks joberg! Most fun I've had building something in a long time. Actually forgot what that was like.

I'm waiting for the weekend to machine more leg parts. In the meantime, I got some grebels in!
All except the big round one are from the Tamiya 1/35 Flakvierling 38 2cm kit Which was great because it was only 8 bucks.
The big round one is one of two that go on the AT AT foot ring holder and look like eyes. I CADed it up an then milled it from ABS on the CNC mill. I could have resin printed it but I really like the durabilty of ABS.
The original grebel was the rear gunner window from an Airfix 1/24 Stuka kit... Which, if you can find it, costs around a hundred. Too much for my wallet for one part!
The three small round things cover screw heads on the tops of the feet. The long things go on the backs of the foot ring holder and the other ones were used all over the model.

I haven't been able to identify this one circled in red. It lives on the upper back side of the legs. Anyone know what kit it came from?

Holy. I came across this topic through email. And while Im not a big fan of the OT ( shame on me ) I LOVE the AT-ATs. Is this going to be available as a kit in the future?

Well, a kit is a possibility. Maybe just a machined leg kit. I'm not currently planning on it though. One reason is that the price I would have to charge for just a leg kit would be many thousands of dollars. Not sure there is a market for that. But who knows.

Made some more chips today! Almost got ten leg parts machined. Here are the five discs I got done (shown with the previously machined shoulder parts). The other five, are the leg mount parts that these discs screw to. If I have time tomorrow I'll finished them off. I'm happy with how the discs turned out.

In the proper scale these could be Swiss watch components. That is amazing fit and finish! And you are no machinist? Okay, we will accept that. Accomplished metalsmith then. ;)

Minor update.
Getting some Urethane casting and RTV degassing equipment together. I'm planning to cast a couple foot parts that I'm at least 99.9 percent sure were cast parts on the original models. Images below.
I haven't cast urethane in any significance since the eighties when I was model making and building up Hot Wheels patterns for Mattel. Should be fun figuring it all out again!

Next aluminum parts this weekend.

Exploded view of the main foot structure. Tan parts will be cast in Urethane. I may be boarding on obsessive craziness but I want the model to be as close to the originals as possible. So I'm going with Urethane castings vs. resin prints which would be a lot easer.

Here is the cast ring part on one of the original models. I'm assuming these parts were cast so they could include details like the panel lines and greeblies.

Amazing work Big C   (y) (y) :notworthy::notworthy: I think that one of our member was working for Mattel also (don't remember his name/aka)

Curious to hear what you think of that vacuum pump. I was looking at that one or a clone of it. Good price if it works!

Just tried it out today degassing a little RTV. Worked great. I got the expected bubbly rise and rapid collapse.
I think the pump will be great for occasional use. Daily use may be too much for it. It does produce oil smoke as part of it's normal operating "phenomenon" lol. I really don't like the smoke but it does pull good vacuum. I will never run it unattended or for prolonged periods though.
