Saw the last video, great job on the saucer. I learned a lot of techniques I hope to put to use someday, you make it look so easy :)

And I enjoyed the tidbits about your career. I knew your work from Laserblast and Star Trek, but Kingdom Of The Spiders? Ghostbusters? I'm a bigger fan of your work than I realized! Since you came aboard last year, I've had several of those "That was you?" moments :lol

Looking forward to the saucer topside :thumbsup

Rob thanks. The top of the saucer is modeled and I'm waiting for the silicone to set before I layup the mother mold. Next stop..the engineering neck and hull.

We are done with the saucer section molds and moving on tomorrow to the engineering hull. Video will be up soon.

Here's a picture for now. Same old thing but it came out well.

Wow the rate your moving Steve I see myself waking up one morning soon and seeing you posted a video saying well I just casted the 1st one today Lol the silicone picked up the detail nicely on the 1st one.

We have a complete saucer section mold! Top half came out just great and I'm moving on to the engineering hull.

I am very pleased!

A sight for sore eyes. Both parts.

You can just see the scribe indicators for parts placement.

Steve,

I understand how you did the Daedalus with two "halves" of each mold (to keep the final product thin instead of a huge block of plastic), so how are you going to keep the final molded plastic thin with the saucer sections? "Paint" the plastic on? Same technique and not just done it yet?

This is a different animal. At this size it will be a hand laid epoxy glass hull. No more than an 8th of an inch thick and supported inside by an armature. You'll see as we move forward Spoddy.

Still fixing problems on the engineering hull but nearly there and will tomorrow cast both sides. Video will be up soon and here's some pictures for now.

Where you see the green is where I had a long crack from the expansion and contraction over the months of changing weather.

What is left to mold still.

Thanks Ray.

The molds should last many years. However it's hard to say how many pulls I'll get but at least 50 I would think. Especially since they are mostly smooth surface with little detail to rip and tear at. Time will tell.

Thanks for answering what was probably a dumb question. I was curious because of the hard work involved. Glad to know you will get plenty of use from the molds. I'll shut up now and keep learning.

The only dumb quesion is the one that you never ask. ;) Learn? I saw that shuttle craft you did and I'm thinking...just thinking, it might be neat to make a 2-3 footer of it next.
