:( but the ncc-1701D is so sexy!

Ah...I'm talking about that JJ thing. It didn't push any of my buttons except the off button. ;) D is sweet but talk about an undertaking. As in me to make it! LOL! Can you say lots more windows and panels and....

The contour came from my plans. Cut the side view into the part. It's close but will have to have a bit of putty squeezed nicer it against the saucer for the final fit. I'll show that pretty soon but today it's impulse engines.

Thanks for the kind words.

Ahh the JJ enterprise really reminds me of the 1701A from 4 5 and 6. The only thing that really turned me off to JJ's enterprise was the control panels and interfaces in the bridge/transporter room looked awful. But hey throw a lens flare on it and anything can look cool. hehe

This is the best, most interesting, thread I have seen on this forum in ages. I love to watch a talented craftsman at work :thumbsup

Of course the questions preoccupying me as I read are: a) how to finance a kit; b) where would I put such a beast; and most importantly c) how do I get my wife to approve? (this would be too big to sneak past her)

Thanks very much and I see your problem. I really can't figure the last part. That's a tuff one! ;)

Today I made a lot of progress. Got the linear accelerator made. Not an easy part to free form. Got the impulse engines made. Finished off the bottom saucer dome ring. Went over all the parts a few times sanding and filling and adding lots of primer. Sanding that down again and doing it all over several times. They are starting to look pretty smooth.

A bit more tomorrow and I can start the scribing.

Taped the parts on for a look and I'll be darned if it's not starting to look like the Enterprise saucer section. Here is a bunch of pictures from today. Enjoy.

I can hear my wife now. "I hope you and your Enterprise enjoy your life together".

I'm probably going to have enough of a problem if they ever make the 1/350 kit. (I really have run out of room, but I still cram more stuff in, somehow)

Awesome, awesome job. Loving the build.

Ok this is one of the coolest RPF threads ever!!!!
(Disclaimer: I am primarily a huge TOS fan so I could be biased :lol).

That is absolutely beautiful. :love

The Turbo lift is in. But thanks for the reminder.

Thanks to everyone of you for the support. I'm very glad you are all enjoying this. Back to the work I'll post again in a little while.

So today was mostly spent doing things around the house with the wife. All good stuff but I managed to get a few hours in on the big E.

Mostly cleaning up the parts I have already made. Making them fit well and true to each other and to the saucer. Laying down wax paper and putting finishing glaze between the saucer and the bridge assembly to get that perfect fit and clean edges. Later finished off with spot putty to make it super clean.

Also, I added the Turbo Lift. ;)

I bought some more Bondo spot putty the other day but when I got home I realized that one of the two tubes was different. It seems they looked so close I grabbed it my accident. It turned out to be happy accident because I had no idea Bondo made a finishing glaze and a good one at that. Small tube but it's handy and about 7 bucks. This is good stuff!

I'm hoping tomorrow to finish these parts off and move on to the bottom of the saucer. I'll be adding the three concentric circles and the landing gear covers.

Again, you make it appear all so easy...!

If I were made of money, I'd be tempted to have two of these. One would be made screen-accurate, but the other would be hyper-detailed with a much more contemporary approach to surface detailing.
