Stormtrooper pepakura - TERRA RETURNS! WITH PICS!

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

its been a while since my last post, mainly spent my time cleaning up areas and refining.

i've lowered the brow a little bit, bulked up the wings more and cleaned the area around the the vocoder.

i think its looking pretty clean and sharp and i'm really happy i've managed to get this far on my first build, should be on track for finishing next week :)

i'd nearly lost sight of the reason i started... when this is complete i'l be a proud owner of my very own TK bucket! i've only wanted one since i first saw star wars :)

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

excellent mate, all that work has paid off!! looks pretty much finished to me!

are you still planning on doing a mold next?

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

Looking great -- very nice!

How heavy do you think it is?

FYI, when you start painting, "CFO - Cast from Original" on Facebook has some great decals that they took directly from a SCREEN-USED ROTJ helmet. The only downside is that it's surprisingly wonky, which worked great on an asymmetrical helmet, but maybe not so much on a symmetrical bucket. Check it out here:

When I get the time I'll refine the helmet decals I posted on my blog, as both these screen-used ROTJ labels and the SDS (supposed) screen used ANH labels (which I found once on Ebay) have a slight curve on the bottom of the two back dome labels (you'll note it on the post above). With your skill, I imagine you'll just want to hand-paint the decals yourself; when done well, I think it looks superior to paste-on labels.

Cheers!

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

thanks mate, yeah its pretty much done, a few small jobs left but nothing to major.

...yes i will be molding pretty much as soon as i'm finished it :) really looking forward to it.

its pretty heavy, id say it weighs about the same as a 2 litre bottle of juice.

thanks mate yet as the indents, tears and such were shaped to my own personal preference, i've made a custom decal set. just need to get the *.eps files to a digital cutter.

Okay, I did a quick revision of the ANH bucket decals here:

Any comments are welcome!

im looking forward to the molding process as im becoming more interesting it doing myself but lack the know-how, so seeing you do it should be very educational.

what molding/casting process are you intending to use?

hahaa it will be very educational for myself too! :lol should be ok tho, i'm familiar with the process and how the materials behave... famous last words.

will be molding as a 1 piece silicone glove mold but will probably be cutting up the back making it into a cut/split mold.

should be fun and a nice change from dust and sandpaper.

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

Hi R2Dan,
Good comment about the edge of the eye rim. I am going to adjust the 3D helmet model accordingly to reflect that when I get the chance, and redo the Pepakura printout (with tabs this time!!!!)

id check the original pepakura model before you start editing it as it might be correct already.

i didn't use many of the original pepakura's features...
eyes
cheeks
indents
tears
mandibles
ears
brow
vocoder
frown
nose
and a few other areas. they were created independently with milliput putty to my own personal preference. :)

so this build does not reflect the features of the SpaceCowboy ANH Stormtrooper Pepakura.

will be good to see another SpaceCowboy ANH build to compare :)

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

i've learnt that about leaving out small details or tricky bits, i've been hacking bits off mine and making them fresh to stick on. shame you didnt start your build about 2 weeks earlier then i wouldn't of had to find out the (slightly) hard way. valuable lesson never the less.

in regards to the state of your build all i can say is, i want it, i want it, i want it!

it may not be 100% screen accurate like you've said but it looks ruddy amazing

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

thanks rosskow! yeah i kinda think maybe pepkura files should be rather basic IF the final goal is to fibreglass and bondo etc.

so much detail is lost from the pepakura.

i actuallty had a few rare drinks tonight and i'm slightly under the influence just now hahaaaa

earlier tho i moved things a little more screen accurate, indents, tears, eyes.

after looking at it for so long you lose the ability to judge it, takes fresh eyes.

will have a nice update tomorrow that should look a fair bit different to my previous.

i know what you mean about needing fresh eyes, i was staring at the ridge on mine for so long i ended up walking from the garage with it into the kitchen asking my girlfriend and her mum cause it just wasn't looking right to me. her mum just said "ross, dont go for perfection" but thats exactly what im trying to do haha

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

Hi Terra1, this message is to you from one of your fans that still comes back to check on your work progress daily.
I made a big mistake on mine yesterday, I put a final skim of filler over the dome and cheeks to rub down but must have forgotten to mix in the hardener!
I had to scrape it all off, wash, rub down ready to start again another day...

hahaaa awww man what a pain, i take it no harm done and you managed to get it all off alright?

its through making small errors we learn mate, your better of now having made the mistake than not.

i've been working on the eyes and indents a little more, slightly less rounded and a little more true to the originals. i should have a few new photo's up later today. cheers mate!

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura - FINISHING BUILD THIS WEEK!!!

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura - FINISHING BUILD THIS WEEK!!!

Man, I have not been a fan of pepakura Trooper buckets, but yours is on a different level all together. Wow man, well done!
